However--as strange supernatural occurrences blemish the festivities--an impenetrable opaque mist starts to shroud the seaside village, leading to unaccountable disappearances and the spilling of warm bright-red blood. One long century ago, a hideous crime was committed The Fog the town's elders. Now, the restless dead have returned for revenge, demanding justice. Is there something evil lurking in the fog? Written by Nick Riganas. I watched The Fog for the first time since the early 's the other night. John Carpenter and Debra Hill did a fine job with this one. The good points of the movie deal with the overall story and the setting of the film. The story is explained fully during the movie and the setting in California is superb and creepy. The music is The Fog disturbing. The background music coupled with The Fog uneasiness and lonliness of the town, Antonio Bay, is very effective. No gore whatsoever in this one so the whole family may watch this movie together. When I was about 10 or 11 years old The Fog movie did scare me quite a bit. The only negative was the The Fog. No character development at The Fog but that was probably intended. Jamie Lee Curtis's role is The Fog. Some references to Halloween are also found in the film. The Fog () - IMDb The problem is with the fog. It must have seemed like an inspired idea to make a horror movie in which clouds of fog would be the menace, but the idea just doesn't work The Fog in "The Fog," John Carpenter's first thriller since " Halloween. And it also needs a slightly more plausible plot. We don't really care about the logic of the plot in horror movies, of course, but there has to be some plausibility, just so we know what the rules are. Carpenter's fog - which contains the ghosts of murdered sailors - is too unpredictable. When it rolls in, it's likely to kill anyone, no matter whether or not their ancestors were responsible for killing the sailors years ago. It introduces a few of its inhabitants, especially isolated women. It establishes a threat. And then the rest of the movie is devoted to scenes in The Fog the threat either does or does The Fog destroy its intended victims. Very simple. The threat need not even be believable; "Halloween's" psychotic killer, wrapped in sheets and apparently invulnerable, just kept on coming while a platoon of The Fog bit the dust. But "Halloween's" killer was a person, and had at least a bit of personal background we The Fog a traumatic scene from his childhood and heard a psychiatrist describe him as evil incarnate. The narrative background The Fog "The Fog" is presented stylishly - John Houseman of " The Paper Chase " tells a ghost story around a campfire on the beach, little kids listen with their mouths hanging open, we learn that shipwrecked sailors were murdered near this town a century ago, and that The Fog vowed to return years later. And, of course, tonight's the night. But when the sailors' ghosts return, wrapped in fog, we can't figure out what their motives are. Do they want to kill the descendants of their murderers? Are they angry The Fog the town itself? Are they indeed there in the fog, or are their The Fog hallucinating? Well, let's face it, we wouldn't care about the answers to these questions if "The Fog" were as scary as "Halloween. A sentient fog may be photogenic and this is a good-looking moviebut can we identify with it? Is it the kind of villain we love to hate? Not really. He picked the wrong story, I think, but The Fog directs it with a flourish. This isn't a great movie but it does show great promise from Carpenter - whose psychotic killer in "Halloween," you may recall, was missing at the end of the film and may be The Fog a sequel any day now. The Fog – The Official John Carpenter Often overlooked is The FogCarpenter's eerie crowd-pleaser that overcame its low-budget, do-it-yourself production to become a huge hit, earning 20 times what it cost to make. Ignore the remake for your own good and The Fog this peek behind the scenes at one of the forgotten The Fog of the early '80s, which was released on February 8, Stonehenge, for The Fog. The film originally didn't have much blood in it; Carpenter, having gone that route with Halloweenwanted to take a different tack this time. But gore was becoming popular with horror audiences, and since Carpenter was doing reshoots anyway, the studio urged him to add some bloodletting. Maybe he was thinking of Cronenberg's The Brood ? About one-third of the film consists of footage shot after Carpenter and Hill watched a rough cut and determined the movie wasn't working. They added some scenes, re-shot others, and introduced the character of the old man John Houseman who tells the campfire story at the beginning of the movie. Note: Mr. Houseman was not among the creepy British things that inspired the movie. Carpenter and Hill met inwhen The Fog worked as the script supervisor on Assault on Precinct 13and they began dating shortly thereafter. Carpenter and Hill continued to work together for the rest of her life she died inbut making The Fog couldn't have been The Fog for any of them, The Fog it starred Barbeau, to whom Carpenter The Fog newly married. Jamie Lee Curtis, a friend of Hill's, said in a interview that it was indeed an emotionally difficult time for her. Dennis Etchison wrote the paperback novelization of the movie he'd done the same for Halloweenin which better sense was made of the The Fog somewhat jumbled plot.

  • Baggage X-Ray Scanning Effects on Film
Tib5201 April 2003 TECHNICAL INFORMATION BULLETIN Baggage X-ray Scanning Effects on Film Updated April 8, 2003 Airport Baggage Scanning Equipment Can Jeopardize Your Unprocessed Film Because your pictures are important to you, this information is presented as an alert to travelers carrying unprocessed film. New FAA-certified (Federal Aviation Administration) explosive detection systems are being used in U.S. airports to scan (x-ray) checked baggage. This stronger scanning equipment is also being used in many non-US airports. The new equipment will fog any unprocessed film that passes through the scanner. The recommendations in this document are valid for all film formats (135, Advanced Photo System [APS], 120/220, sheet films, 400 ft. rolls, ECN in cans, etc.). Note: X rays from airport scanners don’t affect digital camera images or film that has already been processed, i.e. film from which you have received prints, slides, KODAK PHOTO CD Discs, or KODAK Picture CDs. This document also does not cover how mail sanitization affects film. If you would like information on that topic, click on this Kodak Web site: mail sanitization. Suggestions for Avoiding Fogged Film X-ray equipment used to inspect carry-on baggage uses a very low level of x-radiation that will not cause noticeable damage to most films. However, baggage that is checked (loaded on the planes as cargo) often goes through equipment with higher energy X rays. Therefore, take these precautions when traveling with unprocessed film: • Don’t place single-use cameras or unprocessed film in any luggage or baggage that will be checked.

Þessar tegundir mynda þóttu ekki merkilegar út frá kvikmyndalegu sjónarmiði og voru harðlega gagnrýndar. Slægjurnar voru álitnar þrepinu ofar en klámmyndir. Auðvelt er að afskrifa myndirnar sökum einsleitni þeirra en þegar betur er að gáð má glögglega sjá að þær eru afsprengi umhverfisins og lýsandi dæmi um þann veruleika sem ákveðin kynslóð upplifði. Óvættirnir voru gjarnan táknrænir fyrir refsivendi óæskilegrar hegðunar og góð gildi ásamt sjálfsbjargarhvöt voru það sem þurfti til að lifa af. Félags- og stjórnmálalegar aðstæður höfðu sitt að segja í upprisu þessarra mynda og þær öðluðust vinsældir á umrótartíma í Bandaríkjunum. Fjallað verður um þessa tegund mynda og leitast við að varpa ljósi á menningarlegt gildi þeirra. bls. 3 Abstract Slasher films are a sub category within horror films that had it‘s glory days in the late seventies and early eighties. These films were not considered very noteworthy from a cinematic viewpoint and were harshly criticized by critics. Slasher films were thought to be one nocth above pornographic films. It‘s easy to write these films off because of their simplitcity but looking beneath the cover one can clearly see that these films are culturally significant and are indicative of a reality experienced by a certain generation.

  • Remaking Horror According to the Feminists Or How to Have Your Cake and Eat It, Too
Représentations dans le monde Anglophone – Janvier 2017 Remaking Horror According to the Feminists Or How to Have your Cake and Eat It, Too David Roche, Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès Key words: horror, remake, feminist film theory, post-feminism, politics. Mots-clés : horreur, remake, théorie féministe, post-féminisme, politiques identitaires. Remakes, as Linda Hutcheon has noted, “are invariably adaptations because of changes in context” (170), and this in spite of the fact that the medium remains the same. What Robert Stam has said of film adaptations is equally true of remakes: “they become a barometer of the ideological trends circulating during the moment of production” because they “engage the discursive energies of their time” (45). Context includes the general historical, cultural, social, national and ideological context, of course, as well as the modes of production and aesthetic trends in the film and television industry. Studying remakes is, then, a productive way to both identify current trends and reconsider those of the past, as well as to assess the significance of a previous work into which the remake offers a new point of entry (Serceau 9), and this regardless of whether or not we deem the remake to be a “successful” film in itself. In this respect, remakes are especially relevant to film and television history and, more generally, to cultural history: they can teach us a lot about the history of production strategies, the evolution of genres, narrative, characterization and style, and of various representations (of an event, a situation, a group or a figure). In a recent article entitled “Zip, zero, Zeitgeist” [sic] posted on his blog (Aug 24, 2014), David Bordwell warns against the tendency of some journalists to see “mass entertainment” as “somehow reflect[ing] its society”: In sum, reflectionist criticism throws out loose and intuitive connections between film and society without offering concrete explanations that can be argued explicitly.

UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI DATE: November 25, 2002 I, Scott Rettberg , hereby submit this as part of the requirements for the degree of: Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in: The Department of English & Comparative Literature It is entitled: Destination Unknown: Experiments in the Network Novel Approved by: Thomas LeClair, Ph.D. Joseph Tabbi, Ph.D. Norma Jenckes, Ph.D. Destination Unknown: Experiments in the Network Novel A dissertation submitted to the Division of Research and Advanced Studies of the University of Cincinnati in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in the Department of English and Comparative Literature of the College of Arts and Sciences 2003 by Scott Rettberg B.A. Coe College, 1992 M.A. Illinois State University, 1995 Committee Chair: Thomas LeClair, Ph.D. Abstract The dissertation contains two components: a critical component that examines recent experiments in writing literature specifically for the electronic media, and a creative component that includes selections from The Unknown, the hypertext novel I coauthored with William Gillespie and Dirk Stratton. In the critical component of the dissertation, I argue that the network must be understood as a writing and reading environment distinct from both print and from discrete computer applications. In the introduction, I situate recent network literature within the context of electronic literature produced prior to the launch of the World Wide Web, establish the current range of experiments in electronic literature, and explore some of the advantages and disadvantages of writing and publishing literature for the network. In the second chapter, I examine the development of the book as a technology, analyze “electronic book” distribution models, and establish the difference between the “electronic book” and “electronic literature.” In the third chapter, I interrogate the ideas of linking, nonlinearity, and referentiality.
