We return to the ancient liturgy of daily Morning Prayer, with Scripture readings and prayers selected from the supplementary text to The Book of Common Prayer called Enriching Our Worship. Hymns are omitted but the organ will continue to play an integral role. We are implementing all known safety measures in the church buildings and hope to move to in- person Holy Eucharist by October 2020 for forty people through a reservation system. Live-streaming Sunday services will continue indefinitely. BIBLE STUDY via ZOOM | 9:30AM-10:30AM We will be taking a break this Sunday, September 6th. Bible Study will resume on September 13th. With the food of life He feeds them, to the fold He gently leads them, there to dwell forever blest. ONLINE HYMN PRELUDE AT 10:55 A.M. Joyful, joyful we adore thee HYMN TO JOY WELCOME TO MORNING PRAYER Sunday morning worship this Fall uses Scripture readings and prayers from the supplementary text to The Book of Common Prayer called Enriching Our Worship. In 1997, the General Convention of The Episcopal Church authorized Enriching Our Worship, the fourth edition of Supplemental Liturgical Materials. As former Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold writes in the preface, "It is our hope that praying and singing the prayers and canticles in this collection will deepen and strengthen our encounter with Christ and make it possible, with ever increasing conviction, to cry out with St. Ambrose, 'You have shown yourself to me, O Christ, face to face.'" PRELUDE Andantino Louis Vierne OPENING SENTENCES He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8 Jesus said, "The first commandment is this: Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is the only Lord. Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these." Mark 12:29-31 THE CONFESSION Let us confess our sins to God. God of all mercy, we confess that we have sinned against you, opposing your will in our lives. We have denied your goodness in each other, in ourselves, and in the world you have created. We repent of the evil that enslaves us, the evil we have done, and the evil done on our behalf. Forgive, restore, and strengthen us through our Savior Jesus Christ, that we may abide in your love and serve only your will. Amen. Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through the grace of Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. THE INVITATORY O God, let our mouth proclaim your praise. And your glory all the day long. Praise to the holy and undivided Trinity, one God: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia! Today, if you would hear God's voice: harden not your hearts. BENEDICITE, OPERA OMNIA DOMINE Metrical Paraphrase: Carl P. Daw, Jr. Let all creation bless the Lord, till heav’n with praise is ringing. Sun, moon, and stars, peal out a chord, stir up the angels’ singing. Sing, wind and rain! Sing, snow and sleet! Make music, day, night, cold and heat: exalt the God who made you. All living things upon the earth, green fertile hills and mountains, sing to the God who gave you birth; be joyful, springs and fountains. Lithe waterlife, bright airborne birds, wild roving beasts, tame flocks and herds: exalt the God who made you. O men and women everywhere, lift up a hymn of glory; let all who know God’s steadfast care tell out salvation’s story. No tongue be silent; sing your part, you humble souls and meek of heart: exalt the God who made you. Praise to the holy and undivided Trinity, one God: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia! Today, if you would hear God's voice: harden not your hearts. FIRST READING Romans 13:8-14 A Reading from Paul’s Letter to the Romans Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet”; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law. Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people. Thanks be to God. ORGAN MEDITATION SECOND READING Matthew 18:15-20 A reading from the Gospel according to Matthew Jesus said, “If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. If the member listens to you, you have regained that one. But if you are not listened to, take one or two others along with you, so that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If the member refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if the offender refuses to listen even to the church, let such a one be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people. Thanks be to God SERMON The Rev. Wes Smedley Rector ORGAN MEDITATION THE APOSTLE’S CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. THE PRAYERS God be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
