Riefenstahl’s groundbreaking 1938 film ‘Olympia’ won numerous awards. It was the first documentary on the Olympic Games ever made and revolutionized motion pictures by utilizing techniques such as extreme close- ups, unusual camera angles and railway tracks. Despite the controversy over its political content, Olympia was classified as one of the world's ten best films in 1956 and in 2005 was listed on Time magazine’s ‘All-Time 100 Movies’ with a quotation from their May 3, 1948 issue: “The film remains a brilliant solo on the optic nerve.”
