Along the Darss peninsula – course set for the Hanse Sail Fri 03 August 2018 – Tue 07 August 2018 From the Hanseatic city of Stralsund we are going to set course for Rostock ... on the way there, we will take some time to explore the coast of the Baltic Sea. This cruise is accompanied by two attractive maritime events: in Stralsund, a port festival called Seglarträff with historic traditional ships will be taking place. And at the time of our arrival at the port of Rostock, the city will already be in the midst of preparations for the upcoming Hanse Sail maritime festival. This taster cruise will be full of sailing experiences on the Baltic Sea as well as impressions of nature in protected mooring bays with interesting and exciting port visits. This is where you will go on board: Stralsund Our crew will welcome you on board in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. Embarkation will take place at 19:00 hours. Afterwards, you will have dinner together in the comfortable lounge, where you will quickly feel at home on the Eye of the Wind's deck and get to know your fellow sailors. In Stralsund we will take part in the Seglarträff, a maritime event for traditional ships with an attractive program for visitors and seafarers. The center of the former Hanseatic city is on the UNESCO World Heritage List and definitely worth seeing. The Ozeaneum at the port sees itself as a declaration of love to the oceans: it has 45 aquariums, some of which are huge, an underwater journey through the northern seas, lifesize replicas of whales, and a penguin enclosure on the roof. The modern architecture is reminiscent of windswept sails. A special maritime monument is located within sight of the Ozeaneum: the barque Gorch Fock (I), a sister of the German Navy's training ship, awaits interested visitors (photo right). Round off your time on shore by visiting the Störtebeker Brauspezialitäten brewery, where the brewing tradition of the Hanseatic era is kept alive. En route to Rostock we will explore the waters around the island of Rügen and along the Fischland/Darss/Zingst peninsula. The decision on where we will head to is made by the captain, often on the same day – naturally, your wishes will be taken into account whenever possible. This ensures that your sailing trip is a pleasant mixture of adventure, relaxation, active participation and pure enjoyment. Our sailing waters: Along the natural coast of Western Pomerania Have you ever dreamt of sailing on a windjammer? Make your dream come true at last! – This short cruise is an excellent way to get a taste of seafaring adventure! Even in the few days on board, you will enjoy the comfort and excellent on-board cuisine, experience genuine traditional seamanship, and get a taste of how it feels being back on shore after a day at sea. The smooth and steady swaying of the ship on the waves, the endless ocean, and the soft creaking of the rigging are all you need for a relaxing holiday. It is time for you to experience the ship as a place of tranquility where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Before the backdrop of the natural landscape of the Darss peninsula or in the shelter of the Hiddensee island, there is a cosy mooring spot where we will spend the night – a real maritime adventure and one of the highlights of every sailing trip! This is where you will disembark: Rostock The last opportunity for a stop to go on shore is in Warnemünde. Red and green pier heads mark the entrance to the former fishing village. Make the most of your time on shore with a leisurely stroll along the 'Alter Strom' (Old River) with its restaurants, cafés, small shops, fish stalls, ships and boats. The best view is from the 30-metre-high lighthouse, which is open for visitors every day. From here it is only a few metres to the beach of the Baltic Sea with its fine sand and safe swimming areas. Our secret tip for the evening hours is the Vörreeg (front row). In the narrow cobbled alleyway, located somewhat further away from the Alter Strom, you will find cosy pubs where you can chat with your fellow sailors about the adventures of the last few days at sea. After sailing about 20 kilometres further inland up the Warnow river, we will reach Rostock. 100 years ago, this was the home port of the Eye of the Wind (at that time called Friedrich). When we arrive, the Rostock city port will already be dominated by the upcoming Hanse Sail: More than 200 traditional ships are expected at this popular maritime event (photo left: boat parade). Visitors and 'sea watchers' can look forward to an attractive program on land. Make the most of your time on shore by taking a tour through the historic city center of Rostock. There you will find parts of the city wall with its fortification towers, as well as the 13th century town hall and monastery churches with hidden gardens. The whole appearance of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's largest city is dominated by Gothic brick buildings from the Hanseatic era. You can also take an evening stroll past the historic storehouses on the banks of the Warnow river and through the picturesque town and the Museum Harbour. This is where our little sailing adventure on the summery Baltic Sea ends and you will bid farewell to our crew and your fellow sailors.
