Weekly Update Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No. 90 – 7 Nov. 2015 Men’s Premier Grade – Hedley Howarth Trophy 31 October and 7 November 2015 PAPATOETOE vs. PARNELL Papatoetoe Domain PAPATOETOE 105 (47) O Pringle 27 (67), B Singh 26 (56), Mike Ravic 4/30 (21o, 12m), Beenash Nambiar 2/9 (6o 3m)), George Harper jnr 1/3 (3), Billy Sanger 1/48 (9) Dave Goddard 2/14 (7) FOW 0, 4, 6, 18, 28, 37, 46, 62, 99, 105 & 409 (98.2) J Hayes 54, O Pringle 119, L Istead 45, S Money 96*, A Sohal 32, M Ravlic 2/79 (19) B Sanger 3/100 (18), T McIntosh 2/76 (23), B Horne 2/20 (7.2), J Simpson 1/33 (7) FOW 0, 61, 80, 90, 166, 286, 330, 386, 403, 409 PARNELL 252/5 (49) Tim McIntosh 49 (116), Jesse Simpson 22 (49), Mark Chapman 65 (64), Ben Horne 54* (31), Dave Goddard 34* (23), L Instead 3/49 (14), N Ajula 1/51 (12), Bhupinder Singh 1/67 (9) FOW 8, 43, 152, 158, 160 & 14/0 ( 1) B Sanger 14* RESULT: MATCH DRAWN – 1ST INNINGS WIN TO PARNELL DAY 1. Since reporting last week (Update 89), it has been learned that the Scorer’s ipad froze 6 overs prior to stumps. Perhaps not surprising that it froze – in those 6 overs 81 runs were scored! Ben Horne and Dave Goddard advanced the Parnell total from 171/5 to 252/5! DAY 2. Dave Goddard declared at the overnight score and Rav had Papatoetoe’s opener caught behind in the first over. That was the last success for some time. Without Lockie (being saved for Aces – though, bless him, he enthusiastically fieded as a sub!),Tom Hills (pulled hamstring), Ganesh (ricked neck) and Dave (exams), our attack was depleted. And, after a promising start - 4/90 – our limitations were shown up, as the figures indicate – 7 bowlers and 3 wicketkeepers used, Rav, Billy and Tim slaved away but the pitch had eased and all credit to Hayes, Istead and, particularly Pringle and Money for making the game safe for the home team. If there could be a criticism Papatoetoe, sitting at the very bottom of the Table, could have been more adventurous and declared leaving us a run chase and themselves a chance of an outright. But no, they chose to bat out just for batting points. When dismissed shortly before close, our acting captain, Ben, insisted on Papatoetoe taking the field and Billy Sanger smote 14 off the one over possible to give us a bonus of 0.14 bating points. Last year’s Championship was decided on Bonus points – every little bit counts – well done Billy! CRAIG’S PHOTOS: Our opening attack made inroads – Rav 2 wickets, Billy 3. Our spinners – Tim – 2/76 off 23 overs and Chappie. No wickets to Chappie as a bowler but, as 3rd ‘keeper,he effected a stumping off Ben’s lft arm spin George and Beernash – bowled without success George did take 4 catches in the match and also had a spell behind the stumps Auckland A vs. Northland After Saturday’s long day in the field against Papatoetoe, on Sunday morning, Mark Chapman, Ben Horne and Mike Ravlic journeyed to Whangarei to play for Auckland A. AUCKLAND A 290 (50) G Phillips 44, M Barry 58, M Chapman 50 NORTHLAND 227 RESULT: AUCKLAND A WON BY 63 RUNS Congratulations to Chappie on scoring a half century, also to Glenn Phillips and captain Michael Barry for their performances and to Auckland on their win. Sadly little information more was available on Auckland Cricket’s website just a short report. Nothing at all on Northland CA’s website. Surely a representative game warrants a full scoreboard being available to the public? How did Ben and Rav perform? Or are these just “nothing” games? Nothing on the result, no trophy, no status, no publicity, NO KUDOS - just a bit of practice? Strikes your Editor that players must wonder if these games are worth playing in – turn up, “ho hum”, just go through the motions? SURELY OUR YOUNG, PROMISING PLAYERS DESERVE BETTER – THEY ARE OUR FUTURE! NO WONDER SO MANY EXCELLENT PLAYERS GIVE THE GAME AWAY AROUND THE AGE OF 24/25. [This is Editorial comment – a personal viewpoint, no player has been consulted, nor interviewed. It may not be the opinion of the Parnell CC but is my personal observation after quite a few years involved with the game – Bryan Haggitt, Editor] Premier Reserves 31 October & 7 November PARNELL vs. ELLERSLIE Orakei Domain 1. ELLERSLIE 95 Rudi Bisschoff 4/42, Mohan Wali 3/7, Prasant Dhanjee 3/22 & 215 K Mohan 55, Ravin Bharde 4/54 (21), Prasant Dhanjee 2/29 PARNELL 205/4 dec. Simon Wood 65*, Stu Wood 57, Justin Rosenberg 38, James Mulvey 27 & 105/5 Blue Hamel 57*, James Mulvey 21* RESULT: PARNELL WON OUTRIGHT BY 5 WICKETS The heroes – Blue Hamel, 57* and James Mulvey 21* ‘2XL 3’ failed to report but, fortunately, your Editor was present at Orakei to witness Blue and James rescue what had descended into a dire situation and to clinch a very valuable outright win. Ellerslie, by one means or another, put up a much better fight in their second innings. Congratulations to young Razin who bowled an extended spell of offies for the excellent return of 4/57. Mohan’s match figures were outstanding 16.8.18.4 as were Prasant’s – 24.3.8.35.5. Then, just 105 to knock off – can it be done in just 6 overs? They tried – but the answer was an emphatic NO! Stu for 4, Justin 8, Simon 1, Chey 5, Tom Miller 5, all back in the hutch - 5/40. Your Editor, a while back having watched NZ go all out for 26, started to get a little nervous. But James Mulvey joined Blue and, by sensible, positive batting rescued the cause and the outright was secured without further loss. One hopes a very good lesson was learned! Thirds – 2B Grade 7 November PARNELL vs. SUBURBS NEW LYNN Thos. Bloodworth Park 1 SUBURBS NL 94 (29.5) James Nuttall 2/19, Gavin Poole 5/21, Mike Gedye 3/5 (7) PARNELL 95/6 (22.3) Matt Vercoe-Curtis 29 RESULT: PARNELL WON BY 4 WICKETS (One Day, 40 overs game) Skipper Peter Hickman reporting: The 3rds ended this section of the 1 day competition with an emphatic win over Suburbs New Lynn. After winning the toss and electing to bowl first on a very green wicket, the opening bowlers, Mike Gedye and James.Nuttall performed exceptionally, removing the oppositions top 5 for just 16 runs. Gedye picked up 3 wickets from his 7 overs, conceding just 5 runs. Nuttal taking 2 from his 9 overs for 19 runs. An extra 3 bowlers were used, Gavin.Poole, Peter.Hickman and Elliot.Humpries. Poole was the pick, removing the rest of their batting order, with figures 5 wickets, 21 runs, 7.4 overs. The batting effort was lead from Matt.Vercoe-Curtis at the top of the order, top scoring with 29 valuable runs in the conditions. Josh.Milne finished with 13, then following a minor scare, Mike Gedye and R.Pal finished the innings with almost 20 overs to spare. The oppositions extra column played a large part in our chase. This win means that we are now joint top of the one day table moving into the 2 day competition. May our good form last. One Day Premiers 7 November PARNELL vs. GRAFTON Cox’s Bay 1 PARNELL 104 Mark Murphy 33 GRAFTON 105/5 Chris Horner 2/23, Mark Murphy 3/42 RESULT: PARNELL LOST BY 5 WICKETS Manager Richard Humphries reporting: A determined Grafton AUT team enjoyed their game on Sat, but unfortunately, at our expense. They graciously waited for our team to arrive after motorway snafus, and then promptly sent us back in non performing batting droves to the veranda. A paltry total of 104 did not do justice to Mark Murphy’s contribution of 33. In reply we did take 5 wickets, Murph with 3 and Chris Horner with 2, but that was it for the day. Apparently, our demise was world news, with reports of many Christmas Island residents attempting to get here and join the team, but to no avail. We will therefore have to await the scarfies to return to show us how to perform. Parnell Kings - One Day 3A Grade 7 November PARNELL KINGS vs. EDEN ROSKILL Keith Hay Park 3. EDEN ROSKILL 215 (39.3) PARNELL KINGS 216/8 (33.4) Chak 56, Abra 50, Nirmal 34* RESULT: PARNELL WON BY 2 WICKETS Captain Chak Arunachalam reporting: After our first matches was rained out and a default from Hibiscus Coast team in round 2 our season got underway this Saturday. We played Eden Roskill Friends xl at Keith Hay Park. We won the toss and elected to bowl first. They were all out for 215 in 39.3 overs. Our bowlers Sowndar, Hari and Roopesh got 2 wickets each. Our chase started off with a wicket in the first over, but me Chak and Abrar consolidated and scored 56 and 50 respectively, we lost few quick wickets in the middle but Nirmal scored an unbeaten 34 and we chased down the total in 33.4 overs losing 8 wickets. So we started of our season with a good win and hope to carry on and do well for the rest of the season. Presidents’ Grade No formal report received but the tom toms indicate that they had another loss.

Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No.135 - 2 to 6 Dec. Summer at Last! On the Big Stage – Parnell Players in the Limelight: Lockie Mark Ben 1. LOCKIE FERGUSON somewhat surprisingly, Lockie was not chosen for the 1st Test. Your Editor had a hunch that he could have been in for Southee and Henry in for de Grandhomme (on the basis that Henry was just about as likely as de Grandhomme, given recent form, to score 20 – well “Dutchy” proved your Editor wrong and congratulations to Blundell, too – century on Test debut was a superb effort!). Man of the Match was deservedly Neil Wagner but Ross Taylor’s 93 shouldn’t be forgotten – he did the “hard yards” along with Nicholls. And last, but not least, Boult at 11 keeping his end intact for so long. And Raval, just sticking there early on in the innings ………….. great team effort to win! 2nd Test – will Lockie be called up? Your Editor hopes so - will add another dimension to the NZ attack. 2. FORD TROPHY – LIMITED OVERS (50/50) – Auckland Aces vs. C.D. The first day was wet and damp and play got under way only with difficulty. Put into bat we failed dismally to end with just 97/8 – enough said about that! DAY 2. Brilliantly fine, our overnight batsmen, Will St John (a 17 year old on debut) and Prasant Dhanjee put their heads down, played straight and between them added 20 invaluable runs for the 9th wicket. Then came Rav – a bit bolder and, with Will, added a further 38 to our total before Will was caught in the slips. 58 runs for the last 2 wickets – gold (and just a pity the Black Caps tail hadn’t batted as sensibly in Adelaide!).
