Weekly Update – 24 October 2009 Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No.178 Perth Hopes Dashed but Melbourne Beckons! Meantime, Wishing All a Very Merry Christmas! Men’s Premier Grade T20 Championship Our Prems at Colin Maiden Park last Saturday, 21 December – victorious in their two T20s that day and unbeaten in all 11 games so far this season. Here enjoying Chairman Craig Presland’s shout! A notable day – Parnell, in Round 3 in the morning, fielded 3 Black Caps plus another 4 who had played 1st Class cricket. Then, when 5 of the “All Stars” had departed to join the Aces, the remainder defeated Ellerslie by no fewer than 91 runs. T20 CHAMPIONSHIP: Round 1. as previously reported, Parnell 143/8 beat Cornwall 95/10 by 48 runs on 11 December: Round 2. Thursday, 19 Dec.. PARNELL vs EDEN ROSKILL at Shore Road 1 EDEN ROSKILL 122/9 (20) V Puppala 27 (21), JK Kumar 27 (25), Josh Fisher 1/15 (3), Ollie Pringle 3/24 (4) Fanie de Villiers 1/31 (4), Keegan Russell 0/17 (3), Nikith Perera 0/17 (2), Aniket Parikh 2/15 (4) PARNELL 125/2 (17.1) Andy Lane 52* (47), Ben Horne 63* (50) RESULT: Parnell won by 8 wickets Andy and Ben – unbroken parnership of 119 took us to victory Round 3. Saturday, 21 December, 11am PARNELL vs AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY at Colin Maiden Park B (no. 1). PARNELL 130/10 (20) Corey Anderson 60 (51), Brad Rodden 23 (15), Andy Lane 13 (13), B Hawkes 3/22 (4), N Stobart 3/33 (4) AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY 98/10 (20) G Clark 34 (35), C Ansell 23 (27), Josh Fisher 0/22 (4), Ollie Pringle 3/12 (3), Will Somerville 4/16 (4), Fanie de Villiers 1/12 (3), Aniket Parikh 0/19 (4), Mark Chapman 2/12 (2) RESULT: Parnell won by 32 runs Three Black Caps - Corey Anderson, who has just joined us, Will Somerville and Mark Chapman along with Ian Trott, our former coach And our 1st Class contingent – Ben Rae (Canterbury) with Auckland Aces Ben Horne and Aniket Parikh plus Skipper Brad Rodden (Otago) For once our Aces (except for Lockie) were with us but we still started disasterously with Ben Rae, Mark Chapman and Ben Horne were back in the hutch with only 17 on the board. Never fear – Corey Anderson and Skipper Brad came to the rescue adding 51. Then Andy L. ane joined Corey and they took the total to 118. At this stage 150 seemed on the cards but Andy and the Corey were dismissed with no addition – 118/4 becoming 118/6 and, worse, our remaining 4 wickets tumbled for just another 12. Onlookers left more than a trifle nervous! At the break, comments were made that “our bowlers will need to do well!” And they did – aided by some exceptional catching. First, ‘keeper Ben Horne snaffled a snorter from Dench off Ollie – 1/8 and then, at 21 and 27, took two more behind the stumps to dismiss Anand and Vodnala. University’s Durham CCC pro, Graham Clark, settled in and was joined by Connor Ansell (who impressed more that the pro). Score started to mount, Will Somerville came on – 4 singles off his first over. Then in Will’s second, with the total at 65, Ansell carted the ball towards mid wicket and Josh Fisher rushed in from the boundary and dived headlongto take an outstanding catch. University’s spell was broken – one run later Low being caught by Ollie at deep, forward square leg off Will. Ollie came back to have Stobart caught behind – Ben’s 4th catch, Will dismissed Clark for his 4th wicket and Chappie then tidied up the last of the tail. As said – “catches win matches!” One final note – welcome to Cory Anderson who, in just his second knock for the Club, hit 60 most timely runs. Corey, we very much look forward to you scoring heaps more for Parnell, the Aces and, hopefully, for the Black Caps, too! Round 4. Saturday, 21 December, 3pm PARNELL vs ELLERSLIE at Colin Maiden Park A (no. 2). PARNELL 168/6 (20) Flynn McGregor-Sumpter 91 (57, Andy Lane 15 (17), Brad Rodden 29 (21), ELLERSLIE 77/10 (17) D Patel 26 (28), S Venville 21 (26), Josh Fisher 4/19 (4), Ollie Pringle 1/8 (3), Keegan Russell 1/18 (3), Aniket Parikh 1/22 (4), Fanie de Villiers 1/7 (2), Ben Horne 1/3 (1) RESULT: Parnell won by 91 runs Colin Maiden Park A (no. 2) - Skipper Brad leading Parnell from the field having defeated Ellerslie by 91 runs, 2nd win of the day. BUT NOTE THE CONDITION OF THE OUTFIELD _ CONTRACTOR HAD SANDED THE FIELD 2 DAYS BEFORE! ACCORDING TO AUCC, THE CONTRACTOR DID THIS WITHOUT CONSULTING THE GROUNDSTAFF – TOTAL DISREGARD FOR THE PLAYERS FOR WHOM THE FIELDS ARE PROVIDED – SHAME, ONLY BLOT ON A GREAT DAY’S CRICKET Flynn McGregor-Sumpter – his 91 was outstanding – his 3rd 90 this season (photo from Thursdays T20 vs Eden Roskill) The Aces’ contingent (apart from Ben Horne) departed, required for the Dream11 Super Smash at Seddon Park vs Northern Knights, and they were replaced by Flynn McGregor-Sumpter, Keegan Russell and Harry Miller. First a comment about Colin Maiden Park’s A Field – it was a disgrace. Despite two Men’s Premier Grade games being scheduled for this ground pre-season, the contractor, Ventia, saw fit to sand the ground last Thursday. The ground was just a sandpit – not fit for junior schoolboys yet alone two Premier Men’s Grade T20s. Photo below tells the story – we expect better from the ground contractor! Flynn celebrated his recall in sensational fashion – his 91, at a strike rate of 160 dominated our innings. Particularly strong on the drive, the Ellerslie bowlers had no answer to Flynn and Ben Rae, Andy and Brad played only minor supporting roles. In reply, the Ellerslie batsmen crumpled – Josh opened up with a fiery spell bowling their prolific scoring pro, Hassan Azad who opened, first ball. Note that 25 year old Azad has played 24 1st Class games for Leicestershire – 1659 runs at 50.27 and including 4 centuries. A major blow for Ellerslie – Ollie chimed in removing the other opener and Keegan, very smartly, threw down the wicket to run out first drop. Wickets fell rapidly- 0/1, 5/2, 10/3, 18/4, 18/5. Dipesh Patel put up some resistence – he pulled three 4s off Keegan’s first over - but the fightback was brief and the innings ended with Harry effecting a stumping off Ben Horne’s bowling Last Saturday – Jeff Crowe Cup Round 4. Round 4. 14 December PARNELL vs PAPATOETOE at Shore Road Reserve 1. Table T20 Championship 4 wins in Pool 2. Overall winner goes on to represent Auckland in the National CCC in April. BUT THE SILVERWARE IS NOT YET IN THE CABINET – DON’T SLACKEN OFF! Our Premier 5 Pronged Pace Attack Much of our success this season is due to our pace attack. The arrival of Fanie de Villiers, only 26 but a highly experienced cricketer having played in his native South Africa, India, England and, here in NZ in Marlborough and at Cornwall, has added immesurably to our attack. Already blessed with Ollie Pringle’s contribution and Ganesh is having a bumper season (5/9 vs Cornwall), Josh Fisher is producing some breathtaking spells just as others tire (his 4/14 vs Cornwall for instance!). And not to forget young Keegan Russell who shows great promise. Two views of Ollie Pringle bowling – Ollie has taken 21 wickets at 13.95 each (plus scoring 230 runs @ 38.33) Two shots of Fanie deVilliers – 26 wickets at 17.65 Three of Josh Fisher – 19 wickets at 21.37 – and on Sunday, vs Ellerslie with the very first ball of the innings, bowled their pro, Hassan Azad, Leicestershire CCC’s star bat – 1659 1st Class runs @ 50.27 And Ganesh – 11 wickets at 13.91 each and Keegan Russell – 8 wickets at only 15.76 And, in the New Year, there will be more oportunities for our spinners, Aniket (already 11 wickets at 22.82) and Nikith ‘KEEPERS: Harry Miller has 20 catches 2 stumpings, Ben Horne 13 catches and 1 stumping – outstanding work! LEADING BATSMEN This Season: Ben Horne 329 runs 54.83 average Brad Rodden 428 53.50 Flynn McGregor-Sumpter 345 43.13 Ollie Pringle 230 38.33 Ben Rainger 242 30.25 Career Milestones: Ben Horne has now scored 4000 runs and Ben Rae 3000 Ganesh Ratnasabapathy has taken 141 wickets but scored only 122 runs! Huge thanks to Jocelyn Goodger for the Premier statistics – her very full stats will, hopefully, be posted on Facebook.

Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No.135 - 2 to 6 Dec. Summer at Last! On the Big Stage – Parnell Players in the Limelight: Lockie Mark Ben 1. LOCKIE FERGUSON somewhat surprisingly, Lockie was not chosen for the 1st Test. Your Editor had a hunch that he could have been in for Southee and Henry in for de Grandhomme (on the basis that Henry was just about as likely as de Grandhomme, given recent form, to score 20 – well “Dutchy” proved your Editor wrong and congratulations to Blundell, too – century on Test debut was a superb effort!). Man of the Match was deservedly Neil Wagner but Ross Taylor’s 93 shouldn’t be forgotten – he did the “hard yards” along with Nicholls. And last, but not least, Boult at 11 keeping his end intact for so long. And Raval, just sticking there early on in the innings ………….. great team effort to win! 2nd Test – will Lockie be called up? Your Editor hopes so - will add another dimension to the NZ attack. 2. FORD TROPHY – LIMITED OVERS (50/50) – Auckland Aces vs. C.D. Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No. 93 – 28 Nov. – 9 Dec. 2015 Men’s Premier Grade – Hedley Howarth Trophy 28 Nov. & 5 Dec. 2015 PARNELL vs. TAKAPUNA Orakei Domain 1. The first day was wet and damp and play got under way only with difficulty. Put into bat we failed dismally to end with just 97/8 – enough said about that! DAY 2. Brilliantly fine, our overnight batsmen, Will St John (a 17 year old on debut) and Prasant Dhanjee put their heads down, played straight and between them added 20 invaluable runs for the 9th wicket. Then came Rav – a bit bolder and, with Will, added a further 38 to our total before Will was caught in the slips. 58 runs for the last 2 wickets – gold (and just a pity the Black Caps tail hadn’t batted as sensibly in Adelaide!).
