Weekly Update Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No.192 - Club Start at Last But Then the Rain Came down!! 2019/20 SENIOR PRIZEGIVING VIDEO The 2019/20 Senior Prizegiving video is here!, Necessarily delayed because of Covid 19 – our scheduled Awards Dinner, postponed from last April and set down for 16 October was finally cancelled altogether. Very sad but Huss, our Director of Cricket, has prepared this video presentation of the Senior Awards To view, please go to the Club website via the link below – control/click https://www.parnellcricket.co.nz/blog Ollie Pringle – MJ Simpson Cup for Player of the Year Flynn McGregor-Sumpter Yasnin Kareem Brad Rodden Plunket Shield Auckland vs Central Districts Eden Park, 28-31 October AUCKLAND 167 Mark Chapman 54, Ollie Pringle 19*, D Bracewell 3/18, S Rance 3/54 & 269 G Beghin 55, G Phillips 66, M Guptill 25, Ben Horne 18, Will Somerville 22, Ollie Pringle 18, D Bracewell 4/96, S Rance 1/46, Ray Toole 4/38 (18o 8m) B Schmulian 1/25 Central Districts 150 G Worker 53, R Taylor 27, D Bracewell 20, K Jamieson 5/41, D Ferns 2/22 Ollie Pringle 1/19 (9o 4m), S Solia 2/29 & 261 W Young 23, R Taylor 21, D Bracewell 102, J Field 32, K Jamieson 2/46, S Solia 4/41, Ollie Pringle 2/43 (10o 1m), Will Somerville 2/52 (20o 5m) RESULT: OUTRIGHT WIN TO AUCKLAND BY 25 RUNS Mark Chapman facing Ray Toole (Parnell when a teenager) during his outstanding 1st innings of 54. In the 2nd innings Mark was contained to just 6 off 50 balls by Toole & Rance – great bowling & field placing. Mark then holed out to leggie Brad Schmulian (ex East Coast Bays) – one up to CD! Notable aspects of CD’s 1st innings: 1. George Worker opened and was last out for 53, a wonderful innings! 2. Kyle Jamieson’s hat trick (Bruce, Cleaver, Schmulian) – brilliant! And, in CD’s 2nd innings: Ollie, coming on for a 2nd spell and bowling to Black Cap Ross Taylor – 4, 4, 4 – all pulls to the leg boundary THEN, on this, the 4th BALL, Ross Taylor fell for the trap and holed out to Jamieson at mid wicket (right foreground).Superb work Ollie – tactical purchase of wicket!! Set 287 to win CD, at the end of Day 3 were 8 down and all seemed lost for them. Doug Bracewell disagreed and fought back marvelously. He lost Rance at 220 to be joined by Ray Toole. Together they added 41 – Bracewell on 102, very tense indeed – when, with the new ball due, Bracewell smote Solia and a diving Mark Chapman not only saved a certain 6 but held the catch. Game over – but what a game!! Bracewell’s 102 off 137 balls, 7x4s, 5x6s. A win to Auckland by 25 runs. Note the importance of the last wicket stands in this game: Auckland: 28 (Ferns & Pringle) & 33 (Somerville & Pringle) Central Districts: 12 (Worker & Toole) & 41 (Bracewell & Toole) With a winning margin of 25 it confirms that no. 11 is a very important position in the batting order! Match Report 31 October from Chris Laycock: Not a good weather forecast for the first match of the season against Grafton at Shore Rd. Flash won the toss and gave Keith and I the nod to get the season underway. Keith holed out trying to get us off to a flier and Sam went early to a catch at gully more befitting a much younger grade of cricket. Flash and I were making good progress as the rain got heavier and eventually stopped the game. We mustered up close to 50 runs from the 7 or 8 overs we managed to squeeze in. It was good to get back into the whites and we’re looking forward to more cricket next week. [Rumour has it that a 6, by your Reporter (?), was hit off the last ball] No detais received from the One Day Grades or Sunday Grades CricHQ Training – Learn All About It Session With Jocelyn Goodger 6.00 - 7.00pm, Thursday, 12 November On Thursday the 12th of November between 6-7pm the Club will be hosting a CricHQ training session with Jocelyn Goodger- our first eleven scorer inside our PCC Clubroom. A great opportunity to learn how to use the CricHQ App, run a team and score matches. Everyone will be encouraged to score this season so learn from the expert in this fun, relaxed training session. Junior Coaches, Managers, Players, Parents, Grandparents...everyone is welcome! NOTE: Jocelyn, our Men’s Premier Scorer for the past 25 years, is vastly experienced. She has retired from scoring Internationals (Tests, ODIs and T20Is) and for the Aces which she did for many years. This is a great opportunity to learn the intricities of the CricHQ system – so essential for accurate recording and instant posting of scores so important today. Congratulations to our local schools- St Kentigern Boys’ School and Remuera Intermediate who won the Auckland Cricket Regional Finals of the National Primary School Cup and Shield Auckland Cricket reports: ST KENTIGERN AND REMUERA INTERMEDIATE ADVANCE IN CUP AND SHIELD On Thursday, St Kentigern Boys’ School and Remuera Intermediate won the Regional Finals of the National Primary School Cup and Shield, and with it a ticket to the National Tournament later this month. Cup Final | Boys St Kentigern played a confident final against King’s School, batting first and putting on a big total of 215/2. The top four players all retired with Harry McLeod (43* off 21), Marco Alpe (37* off 21) and Ollie Davies (32* off 20) leading the way. In reply, King’s School’s George Crawford (27) and Thomas Nelson (22*) showed their skills, but the total was a step too far as Ollie Davies (3-16) and Harry Waite (3-34) featured with the ball for St Kentigern. Shield Final | Girls Remuera Intermediate won a close final against Pt England School after a low-scoring match. It was a struggle with the bat for both sides as Elise Bollard (2-9) helped keep Pt England to 70/7. While Zamera Maeva (3/5) and Jane Manase (2-7) were near perfect with the ball for Pt England, a last-wicket partnership between Minnie Morton and Hayley Taylor was enough to get Remuera over the line and into the National Shield Tournament. Very best wishes to Saint Kentigern and to Remuera Intermediate in the National Finals later this Month Programmes For The Season Premier Men – Start Sat. 31 October: Premier Women – Start Sat. 31 October: Further details on next page The Auckland Grammar School Foundation Trust Art House Tour is back on Saturday 21st November. Sports FRIDAY, JANUARY 1, 2016 45 Marsh finds pace to scratch ‘pad rash’ itch MELBOURNE: Having spent much of the home sum- mer suffering “pad rash” from waiting to bat, Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has put the pent- up energy to good use when thrown the ball. With paceman Peter Siddle hampered by an ankle injury, Marsh stepped up to take 4-61 to help close out victory in the second test against West Indies on Tuesday on a Melbourne Cricket Ground pitch offer- ing little for bowlers. High-fives from team mates were no doubt plentiful in the dressing room, with Marsh having played a big part in preventing them all from having to come back on a fifth day to take care of the West Indies tail. His fast bowling colleagues and selectors will also have been impressed with the 24-year-old’s pace. The speed gun clocked some of his deliveries at over 140 kph. Australia coach Darren Lehmann remarked that Marsh could shape as a de facto third seamer for the third and final test at the Sydney Cricket Ground if selectors picked two spinners. “It’s quite flattering NELSON: Tillakaratne Dilshan (R) of Sri Lanka plays a shot in front of New Zealand wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi during the to hear that, but the biggest thing for me is just play- 3rd One Day International cricket match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at Saxton Oval in Nelson yesterday. — AFP ing my role,” Marsh told reporters in Melbourne. “Over the last 18 months I’ve worked really hard with (bowling coach) Craig McDermott to try and get Fiery net spell sees S Lanka a few extra K’s (kph) on my bowling and certainly over the last few months I’ve felt like I’m just getting turn tables on New Zealand a bit faster and faster in every game that I play.

Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No.186: 2019/20 – Club of the Year! The 2019/20 Season may have ended a fraction prematurely but, for Parnell, it was a resounding success. Over it’s long history, 163 years, the Club has won many championships and produced some of New Zealand’s finest cricketers but few seasons have produced the results and accolades gained in 2019/20. COVID 19 has meant the postponement of the Annual Awards Dinner but Auckland Cricket has just announced the trophy winners and a superb collection of silverware comes to Parnell and our Players: “Club of the Year” – the Simmonds & Osborne Trophy awarded to Parnell Cricket Club Parnell last won this Award 27 years ago. The Trophy dates from 1905/06 when it was awarded jointly to City, Grafton, North Shore and Parnell Cricket Clubs.
