Parkview’s incredible journey continues
Since it all began in 1923, Parkview Medical Center has provided millions of dollars in charity care to our community and in fiscal 2015 this great work continued. Our slogan “Caring for You” appropriately applied to fiscal 2015 as Parkview experienced significant growth in nearly all service lines.

Being independent and not being part of a larger system allows the Board the ability to prioritize key decisions and commit resources based 100% on the needs of our community.

Parkview continues to bring state-of-the-art technology to our community, including the region’s first da Vinci XI surgical assist robot, only the second of its kind in Colorado. Additional technology firsts include clean air orthopedic surgical suites, and the regions only surgical “hybrid suite” with integrated CAT scan capability.

More important than our technology is our investment in our people. As the region’s largest employer, with more than 2,600 outstanding individuals, Parkview continued it strategic growth in fiscal 2015. Parkview’s Internal Medicine Residency, started in 2011, graduated its first full class of 9 physicians this past year and 7 of these doctors will be staying in Pueblo to provide care. In reviewing this report, one can see how important Pueblo is to Parkview but also how important Parkview is for Pueblo.

performed to the tune “Stayin’ Alive” at assemblies in schools, businesses and at community events intending to prove just how easy CPR can be.

Rave Reviews...
“We truly appreciate teaming up with the Parkview Mobile Nurses to promote heart health and hands-only CPR. You ladies are awesome and are doing an incredible job.”
- Janeen McDonald, AHA Vice President of Youth Market
“The assembly was awesome! Parkview Mobile Nurses did a great job! The students are still talking about how cool the assembly was.”
- Highland Park Elementary School
The Parkview Mobile Nurses partnered with the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology/CardioSmart to educate Pueblo and surrounding communities on bystander CPR and heart health. The tempo to “Stayin’ Alive” almost perfectly matches the recommended rate for performing hands-only CPR — 100 chest compressions per minute with no mouth-to-mouth resuscitation necessary.
Parkview MOBILE NURSES
educated our community throughout the rest of the year conducting...
280 health events
Along with the demonstrations, the Mobile Nurses incorporated educational tips on heart disease prevention through proper nutrition, exercise, not smoking, and hydration. The presentations were lively and interactive creating a memorable experience in hopes that in an emergency, people would recall two simple steps - call 911 and push hard and fast in the middle of a person’s chest, to the disco beat of “Stayin’ Alive”. A slightly different technique is recommended for children.

Studies have shown that hands-only CPR can be as effective as conventional CPR, which combines mouth-to-mouth resuscitation with compressions. Both types can double or even triple survival rates if CPR begins in the first few minutes after a heart attack.

Physician Recruiting
CARING FOR YOU
Parkview remains dedicated in actively recruiting physicians to meet the needs of the community.
THROUGH INVESTMENT
We acquired the da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system to
partner the latest state-of-the-art technology with Parkview’s talented group of surgeon’s, providing patients with less invasive surgical options and faster recovery.
The recruiting department hosted 76 physician and physician-extender (PA or NP) community site visits. • Nine physician extender positions were filled in primary care and specialty care.
Parkview became the first Colorado hospital to join the U.S. Army Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) program,
designed to prepare, train and connect Soldiers to future employers. The PaYS program will provide Parkview a pool of highly skilled, motivated and professional candidates to consider for personnel needs.
• Eleven physicians relocated to
Pueblo during the year and have initiated practice.
• Five additional physicians have signed agreements and will be joining the community in the near future.
Parkview debuted a new convenient location for Parkview Medical Group’s Orthopedic Surgeons, as well as an additional outpatient rehabilitation center at ParkWest

Gastroenterology
Upon discharge from the hospital 30-35% of patients do not have their prescriptions filled, which increased the likelihood they will be readmitted to the hospital. In an effort to increase the number of patients filling prescriptions, as well as decreasing readmissions to Parkview, we opened a retail pharmacy and created a Meds-to-Beds program to ensure our patients are going home with the medication they need.
