The end of the 2014-2015 academic year produced the first full graduating class of Internal Medicine Residents since the inception of the program in 2012, as well as our first graduating Hospice/Palliative Care Fellow. </p><p>Parkview Foundation </p><p>SCHOLARSHIPS </p><p><strong>19 scholarships awarded totaling $41,675 </strong></p><p>These scholarships are awarded to Parkview employees and students in the community pursuing degrees in nursing and acute medical fields. </p><p><strong>7 graduates retained </strong></p><p>It is with great pride and pleasure that we were able to retain 7 of the 9 graduates to become established physicians in our community. </p><p><strong>Minds of Steel </strong></p><p>In February, the Parkview “Minds of Steel” team, made up of physicians from Parkview’s residency program, competed in the statewide medical trivia competition </p><p><strong>Our future looks bright: </strong></p><p><strong>The Internal Medicine Residency Program </strong>begins </p><p>the academic year with 12 new residents and 6 new fellows (3 gastroenterology and 3 pulmonary/crititcal care fellows) who are all eager to learn. </p><p><strong>The School To Employment Program </strong>will continue to </p><p>create and collaborate for an engaging environment for students. This year, 12 new students were added to rotation for a total of 27 students. in Denver. The team defeated teams representing </p><p>Denver hospitals, including University of Colorado and St. Joseph’s, earning a spot in the international championship competition held at the ACP national meeting in Boston. The team not only represented Pueblo, but all of Colorado as they took on 40 teams from around the world, featuring the brightest residents, as they competed for the Osler Cup. </p><p><strong>Parkview Foundation Scholarships </strong>are an </p><p>investment to ensure we have optimal healthcare in Pueblo for generations to come. I am yet to attain a specific direction that I want to head, but from this program I know at least that I am headed in the right direction.” <br>Austin Johnson, Rye High School </p><p>School to Employment Program (STEP) </p><p><strong>• 27 students participated • 198 students have completed program </strong></p><p>STEP is a collaboration between Parkview and Pueblo School District 70 high schools to generate quality academic and employment training opportunities, which direct students toward future healthcare careers. </p><p>Partners in Education (P.I.E.) </p><p><strong>300 high school students reached during special event - </strong></p><p>“The Road to Your Championship Career, ” Pueblo Youth Future Fair, CSU-Pueblo P.I.E. is a partnership between Pueblo area businesses, non-profit agencies and school leaders who meet monthly during the school year to plan events such as Pueblo Youth Future Fair, Character Education Celebrations and other activities that support students in our community. </p><p>Job Shadow/Student Outreach </p><p><strong>8 students shadowed </strong></p><p>Parkview supports a job shadowing experience for students interested in exploring careers in healthcare. The students are still talking about how cool the assembly was.” <br>- Highland Park Elementary School </p><p>The Parkview Mobile Nurses partnered with the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology/CardioSmart to educate Pueblo and surrounding communities on bystander CPR and heart health. The tempo to “Stayin’ Alive” almost perfectly matches the recommended rate for performing hands-only CPR — 100 chest compressions per minute with no mouth-to-mouth resuscitation necessary. </p><p>Parkview MOBILE NURSES </p><p>educated our community throughout the rest of the year conducting... </p><p>280 health events </p><p>Along with the demonstrations, the Mobile Nurses incorporated educational tips on heart disease prevention through proper nutrition, exercise, not smoking, and hydration. The presentations were lively and interactive creating a memorable experience in hopes that in an emergency, people would recall two simple steps - call 911 and push hard and fast in the middle of a person’s chest, to the disco beat of “Stayin’ Alive”. Both types can double or even triple survival rates if CPR begins in the first few minutes after a heart attack. </p><p>ALIVE </p><p><strong>FOR MORE INFORMATION </strong></p><p>go to <a href="/goto?url=http://www.parkviewmc.org/cpr" target="_blank">www.parkviewmc.org/cpr </a>or call Parkview Mobile Nurses 719.584.7319 </p><p>Physician Recruiting </p><p>CARING FOR YOU </p><p>Parkview remains dedicated in actively recruiting physicians to meet the needs of the community. </p><p>THROUGH INVESTMENT </p><p>We acquired the da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system to </p><p>partner the latest state-of-the-art technology with Parkview’s talented group of surgeon’s, providing patients with less invasive surgical options and faster recovery. <br>The recruiting department hosted <strong>76 </strong>physician and physician-extender (PA or NP) community site visits. <strong>• Nine </strong>physician extender positions were filled in primary care and specialty care. </p><p>Parkview became the first Colorado hospital to join the U.S. Army Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) program, </p><p>designed to prepare, train and connect Soldiers to future employers. The PaYS program will provide Parkview a pool of highly skilled, motivated and professional candidates to consider for personnel needs. </p><p><strong>• Eleven </strong>physicians relocated to </p><p>Pueblo during the year and have initiated practice. <br><strong>• Five </strong>additional physicians have signed agreements and will be joining the community in the near future. </p><p>Parkview debuted a new convenient location for Parkview Medical Group’s Orthopedic Surgeons, as well as an additional outpatient rehabilitation center at ParkWest </p><p>Medical Complex.
