MATCH REPORTS

10A Team Not a lot to report for this round for the 10A’s.

Week 1, Noah won the toss and we elected to bat. We lost two in the first over, and were 6 wickets down by the 10th over due to some good bowling by Bangor, and a few rusty swings to good balls. Lachlan and Ryan bunkered down for 9 overs, and let the Bangor sundries help us to 6/58 after 20.

Heading into Bowl – we knew we needed to bowl well to claw back, and all the boys did well. Some really tight bowling meant very few runs off the bat all day, and wickets to Tyson (2), Noah, Ryan, Mason and Jayden had Bangor finish 6/37.

Unfortunately that’s where the story ends. The intermittent rain on week 2 had us turning up to a very wet pitch, and no amount of work from the Dragon Dads could get it into a playable state. With not a ball bowled, the match was classified as a draw.

Congratulations to Tyson on Man of the Match for his match turning two wickets!

10B Team After the big mid season break the mighty 10Bs returned to cricket following many hours of practice in the backyard and on the beach. Unfortunately our determined opponent Caringbah Sports must have done a little more and played well to defeat us by 22 runs. In a match where runs were hard to come by and all 20 wickets fell, the coaching staff our proud of our boys for bouncing back from a lacklustre first week to play solid cricket in the second week. Ultimately 10/73 beat our 10/ 51

Tom was our captain this round and elected to take the new ball sensing some life in the pitch. He led sensationally from the front and immediately got us off to a nice start with a maiden over. Across his 4 over spell he proved almost unplayable finishing with 1 for 2. His was their highest scoring batsman and came at a crucial time. Zach kept the batsmen guessing showing vast contrast in his bowling, which combined searing pace and style offies. His 5 overs only went for 5 runs, included 2 maidens and his wicket was a cracking caught and bowled effort. Ollie was tasked with 5 overs this match and attacked them with finesse, sending the bails flying twice to record impressive figures of 2 for 10. This effort ensured he was the one headed up to the pool for the free swim with "play of the day" in week 1. Mitch Brownscombe was another bowler he has shown solid improvement over the break and his bowling was beautifully straight, particularly in week 2. His 4 overs show none for 5. Bradford livened up the opposing batsman with some blinding pace but it was when he slowed it down and concentrated on accuracy rather than pace that he excelled. 2 of his best deliveries would have left baffled and of course they hit the stumps. 2 for 10 off 4 overs. Kyle is developing his bowling and the Caringbah batsmen couldn't get him away. After a four year wait, he finally took his first catch and it was off his own bowling too. This effort earned "Play of the Day" in week 2. Final figures; 1/2 off 3. Cooper grabbed the pill and set about his work with enthusiasm snaring a wicket in his first over then another in his 3rd. Both times smashing the stumps with superb line and length. 2 for 5 off 3 overs is an excellent effort. Ethan continued his nice pre Christmas bowling form getting underway with a maiden. He finished up with 1 for 6 off his 4 overs. The catch taken off his bowling was described by the Caringbah coach as "the best catch I have ever seen in under 10's cricket! “Well done to Lucas for this amazing effort. A beautiful full stretch dive forward, which was taken at a crucial time. With the ball, Lucas added some spin to his repertoire but it was his medium pace, which proved most effective. 0/12 off 4 overs. We missed Mitch Duric in the first week but he returned with vigour in week 2. His bowling has improved out of sight and his 2 overs incurred no runs off the bat. None for 2.

Bradford and Mitch Brownscombe opened up our innings. Bradford clubbed the only 4 on our score card on his way to our top score of 9. Mitch faced some quality bowling and popped one up to be caught for a duck. Ollie was in at first drop and set about improving the scoring, sneaking 3 singles before losing his off stump to a good cherry. Captain Tom strode to the crease at number 4 and stuck around stoically before also playing around a nice delivery that collected the stumps. Mitch Duric faced some nice bowling in the middle order before he too lost his wicket without troubling the scorers. Kyle improved his forward defense with a few nice blocks. He skipped through for a couple of singles then, in a worrying week 1 trend, missed the ball that was pitched perfectly on middle stump. With our innings in tatters, we needed some purposeful batting from Zach and thankfully he delivered, surviving into the second week on his way to 4 runs off the bat. Lucas was our number 8 and recorded a quick single and on his way back for the second was the victim of a great Caringbah run out. Cooper steadied the ship and carried his bat into week 2 with Zach. He blasted a rare scoring shot for 2 that on most other grounds would have reached the boundary. That was all we saw before he heard the death rattle of his stumps.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 11

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 12

Ethan was our last batsman in and unfortunately succumbed to a full toss that was accurately pitched at the top of his off stump, which sent the bails flying.

Boys, we weren't at our best in week 1 but your fight back in week 2, particularly our bowling and fielding was very courageous. It was great that you showed pride in yourselves to push Caringbah to earn their win. Captain Tom's all round effort talking to his fielders and some bowling that has improved significantly sees him up at Corner Brew for the man of the match milkshake.

Good luck to the boys away at Oztag next week. The rest of you need to cover this loss when we take on Gymea down at Grays Point oval.

12A Team First match back after the Christmas break and the boys were again firing after a couple of disappointing performances in rounds six and seven. Up against Sports we were sent into bat in great conditions for batting and a solid batting effort saw the Dragon’s post 6 for 165 on week one with Kobey 51 retired not out, Zane 20 and Koby 20 not out and Luke 15.

Week two and not so great conditions produced tough going with a wet ball for us and an slow outfield for Sports. Vastly improved fielding and good bowling restricted Sports to 6 for 106 off their 50 overs with Alex 2 for 12 with Lachlan R, Riley and Luke taking one apiece. Catches went to Lachlan M, Zane, Kobey and Macca with Koby throwing down the stumps for a good run out.

Our ‘CORNER BREW’ players of this round were – Alex and Zane

Belated congratulations to our Round No.7 ‘CORNER BREW’ players of the round – Koby and Macca.

Good work boys, but more improvement is required if we hope to win a premiership.

12B Team Round 8 was captained by Aidan Wood in the first week and Patrick Hughes in the second week. Being the first week back post the school holidays both teams found themselves short of players in the first innings and showed great team spirit helping each other out with additional players in the field. Cooper Martin from the 10B’s also assisted the Dragon’s team and was a great asset taking a catch while fielding.

It was another tough round with hot weather in the first week and rain in the second week. In the end the Dragons were defeated with the final score being Caringbah (6-173) to Engadine Dragons (10-96). The team also got the privilege of playing on the newly turfed pitch this round which is our last one of the season at our home ground.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 13

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 14

Batting was opened by Patrick and Kyle who retired after the 15th over of the first innings and were sent back in to bat in the second innings. Our highest run scorer was Aiden S (15). Other great runs were scored by Patrick (11), Jacob (10), Lucas (8), Aidan W (7), Kyle (7), Angus (1), Balin (1) and Koby (1). Sundries continue to be our weakness with 45 sundries given away in no balls (21), wides (13) and byes (11).

Balin was our highest wicket scorer this round taking 3 wickets with Koby also taking a wicket. Cooper Martin (10B’s) caught a great catch off a ball bowled by his sister Maeve which was a great family achievement. Lucas also took a catch this round. This week there were two players of the match was Balin taking 3 wickets and Aidan S who was our highest run scorer.

14A Team A humid morning first week back after the holiday break met both teams. St.Pats won the toss and sent the Dragons into bat. It wasn't long before the first wicket fell, that of Jake for 1 in the second over. Extras helped to move the score along with solid batting by Luke and Beau and at the end of the 10th over the score was 1/38. Unfortunately, Beau was out caught in the next over for 2 runs. Lochie combined well with Luke and after 22 overs the score was 2/74. Luke lost his wicket in the next over scoring a fine 31runs, Lochie and Kye now needing to settle in for a solid partnership. Both batsmen worked hard to push the score close to the century mark and with the score on 93, Kye was clean bowled for 5 runs, score 4/93 after 34 overs. With few batsmen left due to those still on holidays our innings finished in the 39th over- 7/99. Lochie Brownscombe scored a determined 25 before being caught late in the innings.

Week 2 brought a wet wicket and patchy showers, a tricky day for both teams. The Dragons put on plenty of pressure with good accurate bowling and tight fielding. St. Pats finding runs hard to come by with the score 0/23 after 14 overs. Zac claimed the first wicket in the next over with a safe catch taken by Jake. The Dragons lifted but to St.Pats credit their batsman proved determined to keep their innings in tack. After 36 overs, the score was 1/ 85! Things changed as the Dragons could sense snatching an unlikely victory, with wickets falling in the 37th, 38th 39th and 2 more in the 43rd overs. Nathan claiming his first wicket of the season - a man of the match effort. The score was now 6/96, however St.Pats steadied the ship to claim victory in the 44th over, the innings finished at 6/102. A thoroughly entertaining match in the wet- great skills shown in the field and with the wet ball - well done to both teams!

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 14

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 15

14D Team A tense run-chase in the final innings saw the 14D's claim a crucial victory over Caringbah Sports. The win enabled the Dragons to overtake Caringbah and jump into second spot on the ladder with only two rounds remaining.

Week 1 saw Caringbah post 4/109 in response to the Dragons 2/87, so it was up to the Dragons to keep Caringbah down to a lead they would be able to catch.

Some tight bowling and great fielding kept Caringbah down to 7/160 at the end of their overs, leaving the Dragons a tricky 74 runs to chase down from 17 overs.

The chase started with a few nervy moments but the run-rate never got out of hand before a brilliant match-winning partnership between Beau and Charlie guided the Dragons home with a couple of overs to spare.

Well done boys, a couple more efforts like that and you could be headed to the grand final!
