MIN. BID DECEMBER RARE SOUL AUCTION & A MAJOR HARRIS CALL ME TOMORROW OKEH 7327 WD VG++ 200 Such a big one at Wigan back in ’76 and ’77 and surely due for a revival at some point. Harris recorded twice for the famous label, with the other release ‘Loving You More’ even getting an Out of the Past bootie but which is now thoroughly forgotten. B RITA & THE TIARAS GONE WITH THE WIND IS MY DORE 783 M- 2500 LOVE Mint ISSUE copy (nearly all copies are promos) of this one, possibly at the moment the biggest spin on the scene. An almost perfect unplayed copy. How many deejays can claim that? C GETTYSBYRG COME BACK TO ME BABY FRANKLIN 601 M- 250 ADDRESS Amazing, almost totally unknown, blue-eyed stomper would have knocked what little plaster that remained off Wigan’s ceiling. It’s Canadian-only and we’ve known about it for years without ever finding more than an odd copy. Producer Norman Petty has associations with many pop groups but, despite being located in Texas, seemed to specialize in Canadian acts. Good flipside too ‘You’ve Got To Let Me Know’ (which we’ve recorded too). D PATTI & THE I’M GONNA LOVE YOU A KAPP 897 WD M- 300 EMBLEMS LONG, LONG, TIME True original in sparking condition and as crisp-sounding as footsteps in the snow we won’t get at Christmas. No one burns here. E PAPA BEAR AND YOU’RE SO FINE SMS 1002 M- 2000 THE CUBS Now, didn’t this one do well? One of comparatively few records in recent times to make the journey, from ‘rare’ rooms to ‘main’ halls. And to see it as mint as an ‘After Eight’ as well. Possibly unique. And out of Camden, Arkansas (pop 12,183) – outrageous! F THE PEOPLE’S SAVIN MY LOVIN FOR YOU PALMER 5020 VG++ 500 CHOICE D As you can see from the scan there is a little bit of ring wear on the label but really the vinyl on this one is rather better than VG++ almost mint in fact. A remorseless Detroit mover, supposedly on two Palmer numbers, but we’ve only ever seen this one. G TONY MIDDLETON TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH MGM 13493 D M- 200 Big voiced Tony has at least four real indemanders and a slew of other releases… but never a hit. This release was the first of his recordings to come to the attention of the Northern scene and stands up a classic example of the Uptown genre of soul to this day. H THE STEINWAYS YOU’VE BEEN LEADING ME OLIVER 2002 D M- 200 ON Which side to choose? The storming brilliance of ‘You’ve Been Leadin’ Me On’ or the clip-clop enchantment of ‘My Heart’s Not In It Anymore’ which was the side that first caught attention back in the days of the Torch? A top double-sider from ’66 that visits the minto-a-minto club with certainty. I THE DYNAMICS YES I LOVE YOU BABY TOP TEN 100 WD M- 200 Strident Detroit midpacer with killer falsetto and that great sax weaving all around it. This for sure was never released on an ORIGINAL Laurie label despite speculation to the contrary. J BONNIE HERMAN HUSH DON’T CRY COLUMBIA 4383 WD VG++ 150 Lilty blue-eyed femme dancer certainly has its fans. Herman was actually a singer of some talent who ended up in a pop ensemble by the name of the Singers Unlimited (who had the voice of the Jolly Green Giant ‘Ho, Ho, Ho’ amongst their number). She was the niece of the big band leader Woody Herman. IDEAL CHRISTMAS PRESENT!! RICHARD SEARLING BOOK “SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT” FULL COLOUR SOFTBACK EDITION. Over 250 pages detailing the records that made him a Northern Soul legend. £29.99 (inc. UK post) Call / Email for international postal rates. SECOND PAGE FOCUS 1 BOBBY POWELL FUNKY BROADWAY ‘69 WHIT 6902 M- 10 Crazy, mad, stomping, soulful version of the Pickett record originally done by Dyke and the Blazers. 2 KIM WESTON I GOT WHAT YOU NEED MGM 13720 M- 15 Our last few copies of this great dancer in lovely picture sleeves. 3 GUYS & DOLLS LOOKING FOR A LOVER MELLOW 1031 M- 15 This Chicago group did a handful of very decent records and here is another. 4 DUSTY SPRINGFIELD WHAT’S IT GONNA BE PHILIPS 40498 M- 10 Always sells well, just found a handful of virgin mint copies in the snuggliest corner of the warehouse. 5 THE VIBRATIONS PICK ME OKEH 7276 M- 20 This great group never disappointed on Northern dancers. Here’s another gem from them. 6 JERRY BUTLER I’M THE ONE VEE JAY 463 M- 25 This is the same backing track as the Arcades/Jesse James and don’t crop up too frequently. 7 JUNE CONQUEST ALMOST PERSUADED FAME 6406 M- 15 Powerful beaty version of a song done frequently by soul artists. Original version? Wikipedia says a white guy ‘David Houston’ but I wouldn’t be sure about that. (Wikipedia is often wrong). 8 CARL CARLTON WHY DON’T THEY LEAVE BACK BEAT 627 D M- 15 US ALONE Fantastic Detroit mover from Little Carl…. And nice promos too. 9 LITTLE MILTON LET ME BACK IN STAX 0229 M- 10 Little Milton does a Tyrone Davis style dancer. It’s a gem from ’74. 10 THE SENSATIONS I WON’T BE HURT WAY OUT 1047 M- 15 Superb midtempo track from this great harmony group. BEAR FAMILY RECORDS TEL +49(0)4748 - 82 16 16 • FAX +49(0)4748 - 82 16 20 • E-MAIL [email protected] Sweet Soul Music Scorching Classics From 1971-1975 G The eagerly anticipated finale to BEAR FAMILY's earlier 'Sweet Soul Music' volumes, and the award-winning 'Blowin' The Fuse' R&B series. G Taken together, these classic series tell the story of R&B-Soul-Funk from 1945-1975, year-by-year, song-by-song. These are the records that made a difference. A HUGE difference! G This is the sound that still influences today’s R&B and Soul and Rap, plus musicians like Amy Winehouse and Janelle Monae and revivalists like James Hunter, who weren’t even born when these records came out! G All the greatest and most influential soul-funk hits of the early 1970s, including some surprisingly hard-to-find selections! Every song is the original version, painstakingly remastered for finest sound! G Massive, beautifully illustrated booklets with detailed notes, incredible vintage photos, and ephemera. G But, sadly, the story ends here. The last track, Boogie Fever, heralds the dawn of Disco. INFORMATION As Soul morphed into Funk, it became the soundtrack to a social and musical revolution. The riveting story of the 1960s in Soul music was told in full for the first time on BEAR FAMILY's earlier 'Sweet Soul Music' volumes. Now the story continues to our con- clusion in 1975. Some record companies have compiled anthologies from their own vaults, but BEAR FAMILY has gone the extra mile..

  • The Capricorn Center
! THE THE CAPRICORN CENTER! A PROPOSAL FOR THE USE OF THE FORMER ! CAPRICORN SOUND STUDIOS BUILDING! ! Jared Wright and Chris Nylund, 2014 PROPOSAL OVERVIEW! ! In 2010, the Georgia National Trust named the former Capricorn Sound Studios on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard one of ten Georgia places in peril due to the rich musical history the building represents. Subsequently, The Peyton Anderson Foundation and NewTown Macon partnered to purchase and stabilize the building with the goal of restoring the building and creating a recording studio, music-themed restaurant, museum, gift shop, outdoor amphitheater and loft living spaces.! ! This proposal represents an expansion of those initial ideas and focuses on the installation of an interpretive area and archive within the central portion of the building that includes the studio’s live room, control room and former offices. The plan outlines the development of these areas as the first phase of the project, which will allow the Capricorn Sound Studios building to generate revenue and interest within the community while the other phases of the project continue to be developed and completed as it transforms into a multi-purpose facility known as the Capricorn Center! ! Other potential partners for this project include, but are certainly not limited to, the Otis Redding Foundation and family, the Tubman African American Museum, and the Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House. These organizations and institutions have ties to the Capricorn Sound Studios building and are potential partners in its revitalization. An effort has also been made to involve the city’s institutions of higher education in order to provide a sturdy backbone for the proposal’s academic and interpretive elements.

BID APRIL RARE SOUL AUCTION & A SECOND YOU DONE LET DAYLIGHT STANSON 541 M- 836 RE$SURRECTION CATCH YOU Only the second copy we’ve had of this fabulous seventies dancer and one which is even more rarely found in great condition. The few copies we’ve seen were virtually all badly worn or warped. A top quality combo, they backed many major soul acts of the late seventies, surprising therefore that this was their only release. B ELBIE PARKER PLEASE KEEP AWAY FROM VEEP 1246 VG++ 420 ME The unknown Mr Parker on a top quality 1966 N.Y. production from Bob Crewe and Herbie Bernstein. And of course, that pair knew how to make records. A B-side (to ‘Lucky Guy’), Parker was a good vocalist despite his obscurity and the issue copy of this one has always been a rarer item than the promo. C THE IT’S BETTER TO CRY SPORT 111 WD M- 770 APPRECIATIONS Despite appearing on two Detroit labels and a national major, The Appreciations were a Carolinas outfit managed by Hattie Leeper.
