  • Archbishop Rowan Williams Address to the Synod of Bishops
Archbishop Rowan Williams Address to the Synod of Bishops "To be Fully Human is to be Recreated in the Image of Christ's Humanity" VATICAN CITY, OCT. 11, 2012 (Zenit.org).- Here is the text of His Grace Dr. Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury and Primate of All England and the Anglican Communion, during his address to the Synod of Bishops. * * * Your Holiness, Reverend Fathers, brothers and sisters in Christ - dear Friends 1. I am deeply honored by the Holy Father's invitation to speak in this gathering: as the Psalmist says, “Ecce quam bonum et quam jucundum habitare fratres in unum”. The gathering of bishops in Synod for the good of all Christ's people is one of those disciplines that sustain the health of Christ's Church. And today especially we cannot forget that great gathering of “fratres in unum” that was the Second Vatican Council, which did so much for the health of the Church and helped the Church to recover so much of the energy needed to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ effectively in our age. For so many of my own generation, even beyond the boundaries of the Roman Catholic Church, that Council was a sign of great promise, a sign that the Church was strong enough to ask itself some demanding questions about whether its culture and structures were adequate to the task of sharing the Gospel with the complex, often rebellious, always restless mind of the modern world. 2. The Council was, in so many ways, a rediscovery of evangelistic concern and passion, focused not only on the renewal of the Church's own life but on its credibility in the world.

  • La Reforma De La Curia Romana Del Papa Francisco Pope Francis Reform of the Roman Curia
Abstract Catholic Church has carried out several reforms of the Roman Curia, semper reformanda, in accordance to the requirements of the new times, the ecclesiastical life and the conciliar spirit. 1 Dr. en Teología Dogmática y en Derecho y en Protocolo. • Fr Corcuera Resignation Letter 2012.Pdf
Thy Kingdom Come! Rome, October 9, 2012 To my Brothers in the Legion of Christ And to all the Members of Regnum Christi My very dear friends, To each one of you I send my greetings, esteem and gratitude as we begin the Year of Faith. Christ Jesus has brought us together in this boat and he fills us with the power of his love. Next January it will be eight years since we held our General Chapter. Looking back, from my incorporation into ECYD until today, what I feel most strongly is a deep sense of gratitude for everything God has allowed in his Divine Providence. Thirty years ago today I had the grace of making my perpetual profession after several years of religious life, which came after a very happy experience in consecrated life. When I was asked in January 2005 if I would accept the position of General Director, I did so fearfully and somewhat uneasily, but trusting that God’s strength is present in our weakness. I knew that any one of us would have said “yes” like Mary on the day of her Annunciation. Since then, the words of St Paul in his letter to the Romans have brought me much confidence: “God works with those who love him…, and turns everything to their good.” (Rom 8:28) “Can anything cut us off from the love of Christ...?” (Rom 8:35) If we do all things seeking to make our own the mind of Christ who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, we will always be at peace.

  • The Catholic Church in the Czech Republic
The Catholic Church in the Czech Republic Dear Readers, The publication on the Ro- man Catholic Church which you are holding in your hands may strike you as history that belongs in a museum. How- ever, if you leaf through it and look around our beauti- ful country, you may discover that it belongs to the present as well. Many changes have taken place. The history of the Church in this country is also the history of this nation. And the history of the nation, of the country’s inhabitants, always has been and still is the history of the Church. The Church’s mission is to serve mankind, and we want to fulfil Jesus’s call: “I did not come to be served but to serve.” The beautiful and unique pastoral constitution of Vatican Coun- cil II, the document “Joy and Hope” begins with the words: “The joys and the hopes, the grief and the anxieties of the men of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these are the joys and hopes, the grief and anxieties of the followers of Christ.” This is the task that hundreds of thousands of men and women in this country strive to carry out. According to expert statistical estimates, approximately three million Roman Catholics live in our country along with almost twenty thousand of our Eastern broth- ers and sisters in the Greek Catholic Church, with whom we are in full communion. There are an additional million Christians who belong to a variety of other Churches. Ecumenical cooperation, which was strengthened by decades of persecution and bullying of the Church, is flourishing remarkably in this country.

  • POPE FRANCIS AS a GLOBAL ACTOR Where Politics and Theology Meet
POPE FRANCIS AS A GLOBAL ACTOR Where Politics and Theology Meet EDITED BY ALYNNA J. LYON, CHRISTINE A. GUSTAFSON, AND PAUL CHRISTOPHER MANUEL Palgrave Studies in Religion, Politics, and Policy Series editor Mark J. Rozell Schar School of Policy and Government George Mason University Arlington, VA, USA A generation ago, many social scientists regarded religion as an anachronism, whose social, economic, and political importance would inevitably wane and disap- pear in the face of the inexorable forces of modernity. Of course, nothing of the sort has occurred; indeed, the public role of religion is resurgent in US domestic politics, in other nations, and in the international arena. Today, religion is widely acknowledged to be a key variable in candidate nominations, platforms, and elections; it is recognized as a major influence on domestic and foreign policies. National religious movements as diverse as the Christian Right in the United States and the Taliban in Afghanistan are important factors in the internal politics of par- ticular nations. Moreover, such transnational religious actors as Al-Qaida, Falun Gong, and the Vatican have had important effects on the politics and policies of nations around the world. Palgrave Studies in Religion, Politics, and Policy serves a growing niche in the discipline of political science. This subfield has proliferated rapidly during the past two decades, and has generated an enormous amount of scholarly studies and journalistic coverage. Five years ago, the journal Politics and Religion was created; in addition, works relating to religion and politics have been the subject of many articles in more general academic journals.
