A nyilvánvaló, látható szimmetrián túl a budapesti hidak egy másfajta szimmetriája is megfigyelhető, ha az Erzsébet hidat tekintjük tükörtengelynek. Ahogy északra és délre haladunk a hidak párokat alkotnak és ha- sonló formavilág tárul a szemünk elé. A Lánchíd és a Szabadság híd függőhidat megidéző alakja, a Margit híd és a Petőfi híd íveinek sorozata, az Árpád híd és a Rákóczi híd hosszú egyenes vonala és végül a Megyeri híd és az új Duna-híd magas pilonjaihoz csatlakozó jellegzetes kábelképe. A budapesti hidak egyedülálló sorozata különleges értéket képvisel a világban. Egy tradíció, melyhez illő módon szabad csak csatlakozni. Beyond the obvious, visible symmetry, a different kind of symmetry is also observable on the brid- ges of Budapest if Elisabeth Bridge is regarded as the axis of the mirror. As we move to the north and to the south, the bridges form pairs and their similar forms meet our eyes. The form of the Chainbridge and Free- dom Bridge, which recall a suspended bridge, the series of arches of Margaret Bridge and Petőfi Bridge, the long, straight lines of Árpád Bridge and Rákóczi Bridge, and finally the special image of the cables attached to the high pylons of Megyeri Bridge and the new bridge across the Danube.     ROSALIA Handbooks ROSALIA Handbooks Practical Experiences in Invasive Alien Plant Control Invasive plant species pose major agricultural, silvicultural, human health and ecological problems worldwide, and are considered the most signifi cant threat for nature conservation. Species invading natural areas in Hungary have been described by a number of books published in the Practical Experiences in Invasive Alien Plant Control last few years. A great amount of experience has been gathered about the control of these species in some areas, which we can read about in an increasing number of articles; however, no book has been published with regards to the whole country. Invasions affecting larger areas require high energy and cost input, and the effectiveness and successfulness of control can be infl uenced by a number of factors. The development of effective, widely applicable control and eradication technologies is preceded by experiments and examinations which are based on a lot of practical experience and often loaded with negative experiences.     B u d a p e s t The area had been inhabited from early times, already the Romans built a settlement. They called it Aquincum and it was an important station along the limes which ran alongside the River Danube. The advantages of settling here were equally obvious at the time of the Magyar Conquest. The new settlers built a centre on both sides of the River. When Hungary was invaded and devastated by the Mongols (1241-1242), King Béla ordered new castles and fortresses to be built all around the country. He provided a good example, for he built the first Royal Palace in Buda on what from that time on become known as Castle Hill. It was also he who, in a gold-sealed letter of 1244, conferred privileges on the towns that enabled them to develop agriculture and trade. Buda became the royal seat around the turn of the fifteenth century under the rule of Sigismund of Luxembourg, and the Royal Palace grew ever larger until its zenith was reached under King Matthias (ruled 1458-1490). Pest also prospered at this time, and Matthias raised it to equal rank with Buda. In the 17th century a printing press was established, an university was found and there were social developments as well. The next challenge was the building of the first permanent bridge over the River Danube – the Chain Bridge, today still the most recognizable symbol of the city – and the logical conclusion of that was the legislative unification in 1873 of Buda, Pest and Óbuda into one city – Budapest.

Beside these areas a new demand emerged: accurate point cloud acquisition and post-processed results in engineering survey. This technology could broaden the field of engineering survey, although the limited accuracy has to be carefully considered. In order to confirm the accuracy claimed by the manufacturer, the Department of Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics carried out two complex laboratory measurements, where not only the main accuracy values were examined but the effect of different materials, colours and the incident angle. 1.
