LATE BRONZE AGE: MEDITERRANEAN IMPACTS IN THE WESTERN END OF THE IBERIAN PENINSULA (ACTIONS AND REACTIONS)1 Raquel Vilaça Department of History, Archaeology and Arts. University of Coimbra. CEAUCP / FCT. e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT While examining the impact of metals over indigenous contexts, the author constructs a perspective about the West- ern End of the Iberian Peninsula in the Late Bronze Age. Amongst other things, it was possible to account for wide- spread bronze production, usually domestic, involving modest means of production and aimed at local and regional consumption. Some Mediterranean elements also occur within the same contexts, showing new shapes, functions, styles, materials, technologies, ritual practices, but Mediterranean metals play a minor role. Hybridization as cultural phenomenon is also possible. Some items of Mediterranean fi liation are also represented on Warrior Stelae, express- ing the role played locally by the «outside» in the reinforcement of social inequalities. All these evidences seem to have been residual, circumscribed to the circle of the elites. So these elements neither expressed pro-Mediterranean acculturation, nor created a profound effect on the lives of the communities. KEY-WORDS: LATE BRONZE AGE; IBERIAN PENINSULA; MEDITERRANEAN; BRONZE; HYBRIDS; INDIGE- NOUS COMMUNITIES Geo-Strategic and cultural placement During the transition from the 2nd to the 1st millennium BC (XII-IX cent. cal. BC), the Western End of the Iberian Pen- insula experienced a profound transformation marked by heterogeneous regional realities. In this dynamic, several communities played with different strategies, as a consequence of the specifi c cultural heritages shaping them —in fact the area studied does not show homogeneity during the Middle and Late Bronze Age. -

Documentation of Castro Assassination Plots REFERENCE: Review Staff 75/1696 1. Per referent request, we have conducted a revimv- <tf our files on incidents and individuals mentioned in the report given by Fidel Castro to Senator McGovern. This memorandum contains the results of our traces on the alleged assassination plots and the Cuban individuals mentioned in the report. It must be borne in mind that our files are keyed primarily to names of individuals and not by incidents or plots, thereby making the retrieval process difficult. No project file bearing specifically on the subject of assassination has been located. Nonetheless, what follows is kcyc~ to the chronological order of the plots as described in Castro's report. A. Mid 1960. Nothing has been located in records which ties CIA ·to this incident. (1) Armando CUBRIA Ramos. According to CIA traces, CUBRIA was a long-time sabotage expert and member of Castro's 26th of July Movement until 1960, when he apparently tu~ned on Castro. He was arrested in 1960 for organizing underground activity against the Castro regime and was sentenced to 30 years imprison ment for conspiracy. -
