Kazan Federal University, Institute of Language, 420008, Kazan, Russia Doi:10.5901/mjss.2014.v5n24p448 Abstract Since the 1940s on the territory of the Raifsky site of Bolshoy Volzhsko-Kamsky biospherical reserve (BVKBR) "UNESCO" the geomorphological conditions are subject to very detailed study. The study of modern geomorphological phenomena and processes on the territory of the Raifsky reserve was the main purpose of the work and geomorphological studies. Formation of the relief the territory under study is closely connected with the history of development of the valley of the Volga River. The territory of the reserve is very heterogeneous by morphology, genesis and history of the development of land forms. It is important to identify the interaction of the relief with the processes of territory development and settlement, i.e. geomorphological conditions are the pledge of successful development of the region. Keywords: geomorphologic research studies, relief, creep, erosion-accumulative processes, gully erosion, reserve. 1. Introduction Relief is the main element of the landscape. Many exogenous factors act influence the environment through the relief, which gives it special significance as the characteristic of the human living environment, as far as in the same climatic and structural-tectonic conditions the natural and antropogenous components of ecosystems develop differently, but in close cooperation with each another as well [1-7].

  • Peasant Identities in Russia's Turmoil
PEASANT IDENTITIES IN RUSSIA’S TURMOIL: STATUS, GENDER, AND ETHNICITY IN VIATKA PROVINCE, 1914-1921 DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Aaron Benyamin Retish, M.A. The Ohio State University, 2003 Dissertation Committee: Approved by Professor David Hoffmann, Adviser Professor Eve Levin _________________ Professor Nicholas Breyfogle Adviser Department of History Copyright by Aaron Benyamin Retish 2003 ABSTRACT From 1914-21, the Russian countryside underwent an enormous social and political transformation. World War I and civil war led to conscription into the tsarist, Bolshevik, and anti-Bolshevik armies, removing over fourteen million young male peasants from their villages. Revolution destroyed the centuries-old peasant-landlord relationship, redistributed land among the peasantry, democratized the countryside, and allowed villages to install autonomous governing bodies. War and social turmoil also brought massive famine and government requisitioning of grain and possessions, killing thousands of peasants and destroying their means of existence. The Bolshevik victory, a defining event of the twentieth century, was ultimately determined by the temporary support of the peasantry, the vast majority of Russia's population. This project studies the interaction between peasants and government in the Russian province of Viatka from the beginning of World War I to the end of the Civil War in 1921. In doing so, it will advance how scholars understand the nature of the Revolution, peasant-state relations, and peasant society and culture in general. On the ii one hand, I analyze Russia’s changes through a study of peasant responses to tsarist, Provisional Government, and Soviet recruitment into the armed forces; requisitioning of grain and possessions; and establishment of local administrations.

  • Creep and Floodplain Defluxion Study in the East of the Russian Plain
ISSN 2039-2117 (online) Mediterranean Journal of Social Sciences Vol 6 No 1 S3 ISSN 2039-9340 (print) MCSER Publishing, Rome-Italy February 2015 Creep and Floodplain Defluxion Study in the East of the Russian Plain Kurbanova S.G.a Gasanov I. M.b Denmukhametov R.R.c a b c Kazan Federal University, Institute of Management, Economics and Finance, Kazan, 420008, Russia Doi:10.5901/mjss.2015.v6n1s3p237 Abstract The phenomenon of a slow displacement of unconsolidated soil that is widely known by the term "creep" (from English ɫreep - crawl) and "defluxion" (from German defluktion - drip, leak) covers almost all slopes of dry land. In order to identify the geomorphological role of this phenomenon stationary studies of creep and floodplain defluxion of small rivers in valleys of the Middle Volga are widely held. The relief of the investigated area (on the example of Raifa region of the Greater Volga-Kama Biosphere Reserve (GVKBR) "UNESCO") was created as a result of a long interaction between processes of internal and external dynamics. The territory of the reserve is very heterogeneous in morphology, genesis and history of a landform development. In the future, taking stationary study areas located on slopes and floodplains of small rivers as an example, it is very important to identify significant relationships and dependencies of the interaction between slopes defluxion and floodplain defluxion with modern geomorphic conditions. Keywords: relief, creep, floodplain defluxion, erosion-accumulative processes, incline, floodplain, slope. 1. Introduction Stationary studies conducted by the staff members of the Department of Geography and Cartography of the Kazan University that have been held for over 30 years (since 1983) and include studies of the intensity of modern erosion- accumulative processes in small river basins in the east of the Russian Plain, have identified a new phenomenon at the bottoms of river valleys – the floodplain defluxion (slow ground movement of floodplains down the stream).

  • Chronology of Pit-Comb Ware in the Middle Volga Region (Russia): 14С Dates of Organic Substances Within Pottery Matrix
Estonian Journal of Archaeology, 2018, 22, 2, 83–95 https://doi.org/10.3176/arch.2018.1.01 Aleksandr A. Vybornov, Semen A. Kondratiev and Irina G. Tolpygina CHRONOLOGY OF PIT-COMB WARE IN THE MIDDLE VOLGA REGION (RUSSIA): 14С DATES OF ORGANIC SUBSTANCES WITHIN POTTERY MATRIX The Volga-Oka interfluve (Central Russia) Neolithic sites with Pit-Comb Ware were dated to the 3rd millennium BC by the majority of archeologists during the period of 1950–1970. With the appearance of radiocarbon dates for Lyalovo culture, characterized by pit-comb decorated pottery, in 1970, its chronology and periodization correcting was started. At the present time this culture is dated to the period from the end of the 5th till the middle of the 3rd millennium BC. At the beginning of the 21st century, the dating of organic matter in pottery began. The Middle Volga region (south-east area of European Russia) Pit-Comb Ware 14C dates of organic substances within pottery matrix correspond with the dates, which were obtained by the samples from another material in Volga-Oka interfluve. These dates permit to date the Middle Volga region sites with this type of pottery to the first half of the 5th millennium BC and show that Pit-Comb Ware spread to this region quite quickly, but ended earlier than in staging area. • The Late Chalcolithic Ceramics of the Volga Forest-Steppe
PALEOENVIRONMENT. THE STONE AGE DOI: 10.17746/1563-0110.2018.46.1.027-033 A.A. Shalapinin Samara State University of Social Sciences and Education, Maksima Gorkogo 65/67, Samara, 443099, Russia E-mail: [email protected] The Late Chalcolithic Ceramics of the Volga Forest-Steppe Chalcolithic pottery from the eastern Volga area was subjected to a technological and typological analysis. Three types are described: Chekalino, Gundorovka, and vessels “with an inner rib”. Chekal ino vessels have gently curved profi les, are tempered with crushed shells, and are decorated with short and moderately long comb imprints and pits. Gundorovka vessels are either pot-like or have gently curved profi les, are tempered with crushed shells and feathers, and are decorated with moderately long comb imprints and those of a cord. Vessels “with an inner rib” are pots and jars tempered with crushed shells and feathers, and decorated with imprints of a fi ne-tooth comb or a plain stamp, hatching, and pits. The Chekalino-type ceramics are paralleled by the Chalcolithic pottery of the forest and forest- steppe Volga and Kama. The Gundorovka vessels reveal similarities to the collared Chalcolithic vessels of the forest- steppe, and to the Volosovo ceramics of the Middle Volga forests.
