The family includes a single genus, Spha­ erites Duftschmid, confined to temperate forested or alpine areas of the northern hemisphere. (type species: E. kapleri sp. nov.) from Malaysia, Sabah is described, and its taxonomic placement is discussed. The current concept of the phylogeny and classification of Histeridae is critically examined. Based on cladistic analysis of 50 taxa and 29 characters of adult Histeridae a new hypothesis of phylogeny of the family is presented. In the concordance with the proposed phylogeny, the family is divided into three groups: Niponiomorphae (incl. Niponiinae), Abraeomorphae and Histeromorphae. The Abraeomorphae includes: Abraeinae, Saprininae, Dendrophilinae and Trypanaeinae. The Histeromorphae is divided into 4 subfamilies: Histerinae, Onthophilinae, Chlamydopsinae and Hetaeriinae. Am. 95(1): 66Ð74(2002) ABSTRACT Weekly Prostephanus truncatus (Horn) ßight activity, measured as the density of captured beetles in pheromone baited traps, was monitored for 76 consecutive weeks at 16 sites inside the Lama forest in southern Benin and at four sites in maize farmland just outside the forest. Prostephanus truncatus ßight activity was consistently higher and the ßight activity pattern signiÞcantly different near maize stores than at sites inside the forest. Although P. truncatus is known to infest girdled branches of Lannea nigritana (Sc. Elliot) Keay, the P. truncatus ßight activity was comparatively low at forest sites where this tree species dominated. The main peak in P. truncatus ßight activity occurred earlier in the eastern part of the forest compared with other forest parts. Ordination analysis showed that comparatively higher ßight activity in the eastern part of the forest was positively associated with the presence of teak plantations (Tectona grandis L. F.) at trap sites. The spatial distribution of weekly P. truncatus trap catches were found to be signiÞcantly aggregated during a 21-wk period, which largely coincided with the early increase in P. truncatus ßight activity in the eastern part of the forest. Based on this evidence, it was suggested that P. truncatus individuals disperse from the eastern part of the forest to other forest parts and to nearby agricultural areas, rather than, as has been previously suggested, from maize stores to the forest environment.

The faunistic data of the listed species is supplemented by bionomical information. 1. INTRODUCTION Until now from the Rogów region 22 species of clown beetles have been reported (Wiąckowski 1957, Szujecki & Kinelski 1959, Szujecki & Zaborowski 1968, Mazur 1970, Mazur 1972, Burakowski & al. 1978, Nunberg 1986, Piętka 2013 and Byk & al. 2014) and one species of false clown beetles (Mazur 1972). This part presents a list of the species of clown and false clown beetles known to occur in the Rogów region. Almost all species have been collected by the authors, only a small part of specimens was taken from the collection of J. Dominik and J. Sawoniewicz. All the specimens mentioned are kept in the collection of Department of Forest Protection and Ecology in Rogów. All the latin names have been checked according to “A concise catalogue of the Histeridae (Insecta: Coleoptera)” (Mazur 2012) and “Catalogue of Palearctic Coleoptera” (Löbl & Smetana 2004).
