16 Day Tour of Turkey Embarking on a mysterious journey to Turkey by leaving Melbourne 7 Jan 2017 and arriving Istanbul 8 Jan 2017. Welcome to Istanbul, a city with a mysterious past filled with myriad of cultures blended into unmatched splendour. Arrive in Ankara at early morning. Embark into a lifetime adventure. Day 1 : (Sun) 8 Jan 2017 Istanbul - Gallipoli - Cannakale Transfer to the Gallipoli Peninsula. Visit Anzac Cove and the poignant Lone Pine Cemetery, the Dardanelles and Ferry crossings from Eceabat to Canakkale. Dinner and Overnight Cannakale (D) Day 2 : (Mon) 9 Jan 2017 Troy – Assos – Pergamum – Izmir Breakfast at hotel. Check out. Today we begin our tour to the legendary city of Troy to see the replica of the wooden horse. We visit the ruins, which sparked our interest as we entered Assos (Acts 20:13-14) where Paul boarded to sail to Mitylene—the relatively intact city walls, the lookout tower, theater and agora. The Byzantine church turned mosque is no longer used. From the top of the volcanic hill we have a spectacular view (if it is clear) of Mitylene located on the sea twelve kilometers away. Then we travel to Pergamon to visit the Acropolis, Temple of Athena, Serapis Temple, Heroon, Sanctuary of Athena, Library of Pergamon, Temple of Tragan, Theatre, Zeus Altar, Kizil Avlu. Our sites today are Pergamum (Church of Pergamum 3) and the small ruins at Thyatira. Pergamum, perched on the hilltop above the modern city of Bergama, is one of the most dramatic sites in Turkey. Strolling through the significant unearthed remnants of marble temples, one Page 1 of 6 wonders at the “technology” which made the construction possible. -
Işgal Döneminde Izmir Metropoliti Hrisostomos (1919–1922)
Trakya Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi 31 Haziran 2009 Cilt 11 Sayı 1 (31-50) İŞGAL DÖNEMİNDE İZMİR METROPOLİTİ HRİSOSTOMOS (1919–1922) Yrd. Doç. Dr. Bülent ATALAY* ÖZET Yunanistan, Mondros Mütarekesi’ne rağmen İzmir’i işgal etti. Asıl amaç İzmir’in Yunanistan’a bağlanmasını sağlamaktı. Anahtar Kelime: Metropolit, Hrisostomos, İzmir, Millî Mücadele IZMIR ARCHBISHOP HRISOSTOMOS DURING THE INVASION (1919-1922) ABSTRACT Greece occupied lamis despite the Mondros Agreement. The activities of Izmir Archbishop Hrisostomos became effective on the invasion. Hrisostomos clamied that Turks murdered Christians. In order to prove this claim, he wrote o book named “Turks’ Attacks against Christions” and distributed it to the representations of the allied powers. Hrisostomos who welcomed the Grek troops and blessed them commanded the troops to kill Turks. Hrisostomos who was supported by the Armanions caused to hard times for Turks during the invasion. -

St. Ignatius of Antioch Letter to the to the Smyrnaeans
St. Ignatius of Antioch Letter to the to the Smyrnaeans Translated by Cyril Richardson Heartiest greetings in all sincerity and in God’s Word from Ignatius, the “God-inspired,” to the church of God the Father and the beloved Jesus Christ, which is at Smyrna in Asia. By God’s mercy you have received every gift; you abound in faith and love, and are lacking in no gift. You are a wonderful credit to God and real saints. 1 I extol Jesus Christ, the God who has granted you such wisdom. For I detected that you were fitted out with an unshakable faith, being nailed, as it were, body and soul to the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, and being rooted in love by the blood of Christ. Regarding our Lord, you are absolutely convinced that on the human side he was actually sprung from David’s line, Son of God according to God’s will and power, actually born of a virgin, baptized by John, that “all righteousness might be fulfilled by him,” and actually crucified for us in the flesh, under Pontius Pilate and Herod the Tetrarch. (We are part of His fruit which grew out of his most blessed Passion.) And thus, by his resurrection, he raised a standard to rally his saints and faithful forever — whether Jews or Gentiles — in one body of his Church. 2 For it was for our sakes that he suffered all this, to save us. And he genuinely suffered, as even he genuinely raised himself. It is not as some unbelievers say, that his Passion was a sham. -

GREECE • CRETE • TURKEY MAY 28 - JUNE 22, 2021 Tour Hosts: Dr. Scott Moore Dr. Jason Whitlark organized by GREECE - CRETE - TURKEY / May 28 - June 22, 2021 May 31 Mon ATHENS - CORINTH CANAL - CORINTH – ACROCORINTH - NAFPLION At 8:30a.m. depart from Athens and drive along the coastal highway of Saronic Gulf. Arrive at the Corinth Canal for a brief stop and then continue on to the Acropolis of Corinth. Acro-corinth is the citadel of Corinth. It is situated to the southwest of the ancient city and rises to an elevation of 1883 ft. [574 m.]. Today it is surrounded by walls that are about 1.85 mi. [3 km.] long. The foundations of the fortifications are ancient—going back to the Hellenistic Period. The current walls were built and rebuilt by the Byzantines, Franks, Venetians, and Ottoman Turks. Climb up and visit the fortress. Then proceed to the Ancient city of Corinth. It was to this megalopolis where the apostle Paul came and worked, established a thriving church, subsequently sending two of his epistles now part of the New Testament. Here, we see all of the sites associated with his ministry: the Agora, the Temple of Apollo, the Roman Odeon, the Bema and Gallio’s Seat. The small local archaeological museum here is an absolute must! In Romans 16:23 Paul mentions his friend Erastus and • • we will see an inscription to him at the site. In the afternoon we will drive to GREECE CRETE TURKEY Nafplion for check-in at hotel followed by dinner and overnight. (B,D) MAY 28 - JUNE 22, 2021 June 1 Tue EPIDAURAUS - MYCENAE - NAFPLION Morning visit to Mycenae where we see the remains of the prehistoric citadel Parthenon, fortified with the Cyclopean Walls, the Lionesses’ Gate, the remains of the Athens Mycenaean Palace and the Tomb of King Agamemnon in which we will actually enter. -
