Smith ABSTRACT. Recent molecular studies have shown Tabebuia to be polyphyletic, thus necessitating taxonomic revision. These revisions are made here by resurrecting two genera to contain segregate clades of Tabebuia. Roseodendron Miranda consists of the two species with spathaceous calices of similar texture to the corolla. Handroanthus Mattos comprises the principally yellow flowered species with an indumentum of hairs covering the leaves and calyx. The species of Handroanthus are also characterized by having extremely dense wood containing copious quantities of lapachol. Tabebuia is restricted to those species with white to red or rarely yellow flowers and having an indumentum of stalked or sessile lepidote scales. Red de Biodiversidad y Sistemática 3Instituto de Ecología, A.C., Red de Ecología Funcional 4Corresponding author: [email protected] Abstract: The diversity of ornamentations present in the tracheoids of seed surface from species of the subtribe Pithecocteniinae (genera Amphilophium, Distictella, Distictis, Glaziovia, Haplolophium, and Pithecoctenium) in the Bignoniaceae is described. Three distinct ornamentation types were observed on the tracheoid surfaces: (1) Tracheoids without ornaments (in the genera Am- philophium, Glaziovia and Haplolophium), (2) ornaments in true helices (in the genera Distictis and Distictella), and (3) ornaments in pseudo-helices (in the genus Pithecoctenium). The taxonomic value of these tracheoid ornaments to establish possible relationships within the subtribe Pithecocteniinae is discussed. Resumen: Se describe la diversidad de ornamentaciones presentes en los traqueoides de las semillas de especies de la subtribu Pithecocteniinae (Bignoniaceae), la cual incluye a los géneros Amphilophium, Distictella, Distictis, Glaziovia, Haplolophium y Pithecoctenium. Se observaron tres tipos de ornamentación sobre las superficies de los traqueoides: (1) Traqueoides sin ornamen- taciones en tres géneros (Amphilophium, Glaziovia y Haplolophium), (2) ornamentaciones formando hélices verdaderas (en los géneros Distictis y Distictella) y (3) ornamentaciones en pseudo-hélices (en el género Pithecoctenium). -

The most recent studies about the genus Tabebuia and Handroanthus recognize two and six native species in Argentina, and one exotic cultivated species of Handroanthus in urban streets. Nevertheless, the genera are not completely understood, because some taxonomic conflicts are mentioned for the NW of Argentina (NWA). New collections made in Salta and Jujuy, and the revision of an important number of herbarium samples have confirmed a very high variability among the populations of the NWA region, and the subsistence of conflictive situations that prevented the correct identification of the species. Consequently, we considered it was necessary to make the revision of the genus analizing comprehensive material including all the phenological phases, in order to study most characters of every plant organ (young leaves, mature leaves, inflorescences, flowers, fruits and seeds). Our results indicate that the number of native taxa of Handroanthus is seven, including a new variety, and two of Tabebuia. Besides, another cultivated species of Tabebuia was identified, so there are two exotic taxa. -

The year 2018 has brought us many obstacles and opportunities, and that is exactly what moves us. We act in a scenario, with events such as the truckers’ strike, which brought impacts to the business plan established for the period. But we do not let ourselves be shaken: we continued to work and invested, and we achieved positive results. AMAGGI Commodi- ties ended the year with volumes only slightly below those forecasted, and international offices had to deal with an unforeseen adjustment in commodity prices, but they performed very well in terms of volumes. AMAGGI Agro had a very good year in financial results, due to a solid and well execu- ted planning. We are constantly reinventing ourselves, and challenges are creating new ways to increase our competitiveness. This is the meaning of the investments announced by AMAGGI Logistics and Operations in 2018, such as the acquisition of our own fleet of trucks, which is a strategic option both in the face of the importance of road transport to our businesses and our knowledge of logistics. -

This applies even for the most studied families, as Drosophilidae. Despite its position of evidence, most aspects of the biology of these insects are still poorly understood, especially those linked to natural communities. Field studies on drosophilids are highly biased to fruit-breeders species. Flower-breeding drosophilids, however, are worldwide distributed, especially in tropical regions, although being mostly neglected. The present paper shows results of a biodiversity inventory of flower-breeding drosophilids carried out in several localities in Brazil, based on samples of 125 plant species, from 47 families. Drosophilids were found in flowers of 56 plant species, from 18 families. The fauna discovered showed to be highly unknown, comprising 28 species, 12 of them (>40%) still undescribed. -

O planejamento da floresta urbana é necessário para evitar problemas decorrentes da introdução de árvores em espaços urbanos. Dentro do processo de planejamento, como pode ser ocupado o espaço nas calçadas é um item importante para indicar quais espécies podem ser plantadas, de acordo com as características de sua copa. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi analisar índices morfométricos, classificar o padrão de crescimento e determinar a arquitetura de copa de dez espécies plantadas na floresta urbana dos municípios de Curitiba e Pinhais, Paraná, em condições de livre crescimento, sem competição. As espécies amostradas foram caracterizadas pelas variáveis diâmetro à altura do peito, altura total e de copa e raio de copa nos sentidos norte, sul, leste e oeste, as quais auxiliaram na caracterização da morfometria das espécies.
