WELCOME FROM ABL BOARD CHAIR & THE PRESIDENT & CEO

Milton Jones Leona Barr-Davenport Board Chairman President & CEO

Ladies, get ready! Today is your big day! It is the “One Great Day” we set aside to celebrate all the entrepreneurs and professionals who have shattered glass ceilings, kicked in closed doors and obliterated stereotypes to make your mark on the business world. Today, we celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit that inspired you to tap into your genius and take courageous risks to build bold business ideas against the odds, from your home offices to commercial buildings, in creative and non-traditional ways.

You have done it! And we couldn’t be more proud of you.

For more than three decades, The Atlanta Business League’s “Super Tuesday Conference” has celebrated business women of color and their male counterparts for their exceptional impact on our community. It’s our way of expanding awareness of the significant, innovative contributions they make through their businesses and professions.

This year, “One Great Day” will be launched with the induction of Dr. Rogsbert Phillips-Reed, General Surgeon at Metro Surgical Associates & Sisters by Choice, into the Atlanta Business League’s Women’s Hall of Fame during the Women of Vision Breakfast.

Workshops, exhibits and networking opportunities are centered on our theme for this year“Untapped Opportunities for Success.” The conference will equip and empower you with tools and information designed to expand your abilities to grasp the goals you have set for your business’s success.

The Super Tuesday Award Luncheon will celebrate 12 business owners, and reveal the winners of this year’s business awards in Home Office Business achievement, Creative Style, Success Against the Odds, Non-Traditional Business Enterprise and Outstanding Achievement (Woman of the Year.)

We have celebrated the accomplishments of outstanding women; it’s time to hear from our male counterparts. Join this engaging session to hear some of Atlanta’s most influential business and community leaders share their insights and suggestions for staying relevant and succeeding in today’s business world. Is it as simple as “leaning in?” Or is it still a “man’s world?” How can men and women join together to fight gender equality? Panelists will answer these questions and more. Come weigh in.

So ladies, on this 33rd Annual Super Tuesday celebration, we salute you for your extraordinary examples of excellence, energy and endurance! All in all, it’s going to be “One Great Day” for black women business owners and professionals in Atlanta. 6 33RD ANNUAL SUPER TUESDAY CONFERENCE

SUPER TUESDAY OVERVIEW

The Annual Super Tuesday Conference is a program designed to host business owners and professional women, men and students from throughout the metro Atlanta community. In 1984, under the leadership of Alice White Bussey, the Women In Business Committee of the Atlanta Business League created this forum to interact and raise awareness of African-American women business owners and professionals.

At that time the Women In Business Committee solicited the support of The Honorable Shirley Franklin who was then the Chief Operating Officer for the City of Atlanta and former Fulton County Commissioner Michael Lomax to support the idea of on-site certification for women business owners, thereby bringing new resources for corporations and federal, state and local governments. Being a woman and understanding the challenges faced by women in business, Ms. Franklin was responsible for identifying a $5,000 grant to support the Women in Business Committee for a subsequent Super Tuesday program. MESSAGE FROM SUPER TUESDAY CO-CHAIRS

Welcome to the Atlanta Business League’s (ABL) 33rd Annual Super Tuesday Conference! This year’s theme is One Great Day: Untapped Opportunities for Success. Whether you are a business professional or entrepreneur, today will expose you to new, innovative ideas that will help you walk away with a renewed perspective and refreshed spirit to push forward to reaching the goals you have been dreaming about.

The business world is evolving thanks to technological advances and an ever-changing workplace. This conference was developed to help you thrive and achieve in it. Today’s workshops and panels are designed in three conference tracks, each with energizing sessions tailored to help you tap opportunities for success. For entrepreneurs, we will encourage you to take your business to the next level, while corporate professionals will learn how to navigate and stand out in the workplace. Lastly, the personal development track, geared towards all attendees, will help uncover opportunities for growth, personally and professionally.

First, we begin the day by acknowledging and celebrating Atlanta’s 100 most influential women for all they have accomplished in business and the community. The dynamic Dr. Rogsbert Phillips-Reed, a general surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons specializing in breast surgery, will be inducted in ABL’s “Women Hall of Fame.” During lunch, we will reward outstanding female entrepreneurs for their achievements in five different categories during the Super Tuesday Awards. Wonya Lucas, the first African American Female President and CEO of Public Broadcasting Atlanta will be honored with our “Female First,” now renamed the “Lottie H. Watkins Award.” Culminating the day, for the first time, we will offer a special all-male panel featuring some of Atlanta’s most influential men. They will share insights on how to stay relevant in a changing world. You don’t want to miss this session.

Thank YOU for being here today. Thank you to our sponsors. Without you, we would not be able to offer transformational programs such as Super Tuesday. Your support is much appreciated. To Leona Barr-Davenport, ABL President and CEO, thank you for your leadership and support. To the ABL staff, nothing happens in this organization without your phenomenal teamwork and dedication. Thank you. Finally, to the Super Tuesday committee, thank you for your time, commitment, ideas and passion brought to pulling off One Great Day.

“WOMEN’S HALL OF FAME” INDUCTEE DR. ROGSBERT PHILLIPS-REED A native Georgian, Dr. Rogsbert F. Phillips-Reed is a general surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons specializing in breast surgery. She graduated from Columbia University School of Physicians and Surgeons in 1977, and in 1982 became the second woman, and first African-American woman, to successfully complete Emory University Medical Center’s Surgical Residency Program.

Dr. Phillips-Reed heads Metro Surgical Associates, a community-based surgical practice with offices in downtown Atlanta and Lithonia, Georgia. For more than 35 years she has practiced medicine in the metropolitan Atlanta area, serving a diverse patient population. A pioneering physician, she remains at the forefront of breast cancer research and has participated in many clinical trials which have impacted how we treat breast cancer today.

Dr. Phillips-Reed’s achievements are vast. She has received scores of awards and honors that attest to her professional excellence, and reputation as a first-rate physician. Awards and accolades aside, she is widely known for her excellent patient care, her commitment to community service, and is passionate about her work in the fight against breast cancer.

Early in her career, Dr. Phillips-Reed saw the need for programs that would increase public knowledge and awareness of breast cancer to reduce the mortality and morbidity of the disease. In 1989 she founded Sisters By Choice (SBC), a non- profit organization initially formed as a breast cancer support group committed to educating, counseling, and providing emotional support for patients diagnosed with breast cancer. Since its inception, SBC has evolved into a multi-faceted organization that provides a myriad of breast services to the public.

Realizing there are health disparities surrounding access to quality breast care, Dr. Phillips-Reed started an initiative to address this disparity by developing a Mobile Breast Clinic. This unique mobile breast clinic facilitates remote screening and diagnostic services. It provides screenings, diagnostic services, treatment referrals, education, and access to clinical trials to medically-underserved men and women in rural and urban Georgia. This complete diagnostic care makes this clinic historic. It is the first of its kind in Georgia, and among the first in the nation.

Dr. Phillips-Reed has served on several community boards, various healthcare committees, and she is actively involved in clinical trials and research projects. Her professional affiliations include Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Association of Women Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, Georgia Surgical Society, American Society ofBreast Surgeons, National Consortium of Breast Centers, and Atlanta Medical Associates. 13 33RD ANNUAL SUPER TUESDAY CONFERENCE

Lottie H. Watkins FEMALE FIRST AWARD

The Atlanta Business League (ABL) has renamed its “Female First Award” in honor of Mrs. Lottie H. Watkins, a trail blazer who set the bar for excellence in everything she accomplished, from her work in civil rights, to becoming the first African American woman in Atlanta to own a full-service real estate and property management company.

In 2001, the ABL inducted Mrs. Watkins into the Atlanta Business League’s Women's Hall of Fame to recognize her many accomplishments and her unique role in shaping the City of Atlanta. Today we are proud to celebrate her extraordinary life and legacy by renaming the ABL’s “Female First Award” The Lottie H. Watkins Female First Award, to recognize her, and those extraordinary African American women who are blazing a trail in their chosen professions.

The first recipient of the renamed award is Wonya Lucas, the first African American female President and CEO of Public Broadcasting Atlanta. During her extraordinary career she has also been President & CEO of TV One, Executive Vice President & COO for the Discovery Channel, and General Manager & Executive Vice President of The Weather Channel Networks. It is fitting that this very accomplished African American woman is the inaugural recipient of an award named for her “shero”, Mrs. Lottie H. Watkins.
