    GROUP DEFENCE DIVISION VEHICLE SYSTEMS 20 October 2020 Key facts New driver's night observation devices: Rheinmetall w Order encompasses to modernize the Bundeswehr's Marder infantry delivery of 173 Spectus II driver’s night vision fighting vehicle device retrofit kits, plus The German Bundeswehr has awarded Rheinmetall a further order for other services modernizing the tried-and-tested Marder infantry fighting vehicle, or IFV. Under w Order worth €24 million; the contract, Rheinmetall Landsysteme will now be supplying the Bundeswehr delivery to take place in with over 170 driver's night observation devices for the Marder fleet. Worth 2021 and 2022 around €24 million (including valued added tax), the order also encompasses w A new chapter in the logistical support, training and other services. Delivery begins at the end of 2021 ongoing success story and is to be complete by the end of 2022. “Extending the service The new driver's night observation device is the Spectus II. It fuses the image life of the Marder from a residual light amplifier camera with one produced by a thermal imaging infantry fighting vehicle" device, improving the driver's ability to see even in conditions of poor visibility. In addition, the system features a rear-view camera. Cooperation partners taking part in the project include Rheinmetall Technical Publications and the Contacts Rheinmetall subsidiary benntec Systemtechnik GmbH. In response to an urgent Oliver Hoffmann operational requirement for the ISAF mission in Afghanistan, Rheinmetall Head of Public previously integrated the Spectus I – the Spectus II’s forerunner – into the Rheinmetall AG Marder 1 A5A1 fleet.

    30. September 2019 Millionenauftrag aus Ungarn – Rheinmetall fertigt Waffenanlagen und Wannen für Panzerhaubitze 2000 und Kampfpanzer Leopard 2 Rheinmetall übernimmt eine wichtige Rolle bei der Modernisierung des ungarischen Heeres. So fertigt das Unternehmen Waffenanlagen und Feuerleittechnik für 44 Kampfpanzer Leopard 2 sowie Waffenanlagen, Feuerleittechnik und Fahrgestelle für 24 Panzerhaubitzen 2000. Ebenso gehören dreizehn HX-und TGS-Lastkraftwagen zum Auftragspaket. Ein entsprechender Liefervertrag wurde vor kurzem unterzeichnet. Der Auftragswert beläuft sich auf rund 300 MioEUR netto. Die Lieferungen beginnen 2021 und dauern bis 2025. Rheinmetall ist bei dem Vorhaben Partner von Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW). KMW hatte im Dezember 2018 von den ungarischen Landstreitkräften den Auftrag zur Lieferung von 44 neu gefertigten Kampfpanzern Leopard 2A7+ und 24 neu gefertigten Panzerhaubitzen PzH2000 erhalten. Ungarn wird damit der 19. Leopard-2-Nutzerstaat und der achte Nutzerstaat der PzH2000. Rheinmetall ist der Entwickler und Originalhersteller der 120 mm-Glattrohr-Technologie, die in allen Versionen des Kampfpanzers Leopard 2 verwendet wird. Gleiches gilt für die 155mm-L52-Waffenanlage der Panzerhaubitze 2000 (PzH 2000). Die weltweit bewährte 120mm-Glattrohrtechnologie wurde durch Rheinmetall sowohl waffen- als auch munitionsseitig stetig weiterentwickelt. Die für den Leopard 2A7+ vorgesehene druckhöhere 120mm-Waffenanlage L55A1 ist Ende 2017 erfolgreich qualifiziert worden und wird seit Mitte 2018 bereits für zwei Leopard 2-Nutzerstaaten geliefert und eingerüstet. Die Waffenanlage L55A1 ist darüber hinaus zum Verschießen der programmierbaren Mehrzweckpatrone DM11 befähigt. Rheinmetall verfügt darüber hinaus über eine umfangreiche Kettenfahrzeug-Expertise bis hin zum OEM. Die Fahrgestelle der Panzerhaubitze 2000 sind bei Rheinmetall entwickelt worden. Procurement Politics, Technology Transfer and the Challenges of Collaborative MBT Projects in the NATO Alliance since 1945 Mike Cubbin School of Arts and Media Salford University Submitted to the University of Salford in Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements of the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy 2019 Abstract International cooperation in weapons technology projects has long been a feature of alliance politics; and, there are many advantages to both international technology transfer and standardisation within military alliances. International collaboration between national defence industries has produced successful weapon systems from technologically advanced fighter aircraft to anti-tank missiles. Given the success of many joint defence projects, one unresolved question is why there have been no successful collaborative international main battle tank (MBT) projects since 1945. This thesis seeks to answer this question by considering four case studies of failed attempts to produce an MBT through an international collaborative tank project: first and second, the Franco-German efforts to produce a standard European tank, or Euro-Panzer (represented by two separate projects in 1957-63 and 1977- 83); third, the US-German MBT-70 project (1963-70); and, fourth, the Anglo-German Future Main Battle Tank, or KPz3 (1971-77).     Capítulo segundo Análisis de las capacidades terrestres de los países de nuestro entorno José María Martínez Ferrer Resumen Los Ejércitos de Tierra de los cinco países estudiados (Reino Unido, Fran- cia, Alemania, Italia y España) han tenido una evolución paralela desde el final de la Guerra Fría, aunque marcada por el nivel de ambición de las naciones respectivas (aspiraciones globales en el caso de Reino Unido y Francia y, con matices, de potencia media en Alemania, Italia y España). El foco en la defensa territorial, la disuasión y el combate convencional de alta intensidad dio paso a las operaciones expedicionarias y la gestión de crisis, intentando mantener una alta capacidad tecnológica mientras dis- minuía sensiblemente la entidad de la fuerza en el marco de una reducción presupuestaria sostenida. El interés por las fuerzas terrestres repuntó tras el 11-S con el énfasis en las operaciones de contrainsurgencia y estabili- zación en Irak y Afganistán, sin embargo, el ambiguo e insatisfactorio final de ambas campañas inhibió el interés político por las intervenciones te- rrestres, junto al severo impacto de la crisis económica de 2008 en Euro- pa occidental. No obstante, los acontecimientos de 2014 (la intervención rusa en Ucrania y la reactivación del terrorismo yihadista internacional del Dáesh/Estado islámico, junto a la desestabilización crónica de Siria-Irak y Libia), junto a una ligera mejora de las perspectivas económicas de Europa, parecen haber reavivado la relevancia de los Ejércitos de Tierra, cuyas ca- pacidades se han erosionado significativamente en los últimos veinte años.
