KANKAKEE RIVERFRONT OPPORTUNITY ZONE • Unanimously approved by Kankakee City Council 2-3-2020 • 631 acres • Court Street, from Harrison Ave. to Eastgate Industrial Park • Intent: Gateway enhancement, commercial, industrial, and residential redevelopment and ground-up development KANKAKEE RIVERFRONT OPPORTUNITY ZONE Riverfront Master Plan Implementation Team News • The Kankakee Riverfront Society is official established, has convened, and is advancing its agenda, which focuses on funding and constructing riverwalk capital improvements. • The Riverfront Implementation Team (KRIT) has reviewed concepts for bridge and hydro-plant lighting. Hitchcock Design Group is revising concepts and cost opinions accordingly. (Note: Project partially funded by KRVEZ) • The KRIT Branding and Programming Committee and the Riverfront Society have both reviewed Hitchcock Design Group's Riverfront Branding preliminary analysis and positioning recommendations. Hitchcock Design Group will review its identity recommendations at the March meeting. (NOTE: Project partially funded by KRVEZ) KANKAKEE RIVERFRONT OPPORTUNITY ZONE Riverfront Master Plan Implementation Team News • In January, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) awarded a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to the City to partially fund the acquisition of 3 properties along the "West Riverwalk" (West of Washington). • The City continues to work with IDNR to acquire the "East Riverwalk" properties (east of Schuyler) using grant funding awarded in 2019. • The City has funded and authorized Hitchcock Design Group to begin preliminary design services for the "East Riverwalk."
