Abstract: Auchenorrhyncha were sampled on 31 species of forbs and grasses in the years 2004-2006 in the area of Częstochowa Upland in southern Poland. Altogether, the material includes 1970 adult individuals belonging to 44 species. Auchenorrhyncha guilds for 21 plants are described and discussed. Key words: Hemiptera, Auchenorrhyncha guilds, food plants, Poland 1. Introduction The knowledge of Auchenorrhyncha food plants in Poland, unlike those published recently from Germany (Nickel 2003) or Britain (e.g. Waloff & Solomon 1973; Cook 1996), are far from complete. Smreczyński (1954) and Nast (1976) provided records mainly for arboricolous taxa, i.e. Macropsinae, Idiocerinae, Jassinae and Typhlocybinae, but there is still no information on the food preferences of the bulk of the leafhopper fauna. The aim of this work was to determine Auchenorrhyncha guilds associated with forbs and grasses, which are notable constituents of grasslands on limestone and sandy substrates of the Częstochowa upland in southern Poland. 2. Study area, methods and material A survey was carried out over a 3-year period (2004-2006) near the villages of Olsztyn and Mstów, UTM CB 72, CB 73 (Fig. 1). This region is characterized by Upper Jurassic limestone formations dissected by valleys filled with Pleistocene sands.

Entomofaunistik, Wien, download unter www.biologiezentrum.at Beiträge zur Entomofaunistik 9 - Nachrichten/Forum Wien, Dezember 2008 N ACHRICHTEN/FORUM Die Gemeine Blutzikade (Cercopis vulnerata) – das Insekt des Jahres 2009 (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Cercopidae) Abstract The froghopper or spittlebug species Cercopis vulnerata ROSSI, 1807 is the Insect of the Year 2009. This paper presents a key to genera and species of the Cercopidae of Europe and gives an overview of the color morphs of Central European Cercopis taxa. Furthermore, data on morphology, chorology, ethology, ecology and life cycle of Cercopis vulnerata are compiled. Keywords: Identification key, Cercopidae, Triecphorella, Haematoloma, Cercopis vulnerata.

  • Vectores Potenciales De Xylella Fastidiosa En El Olivar De La Provincia De Sevilla
livo..

For this purpose, samples were collected with a net, hand and tweezers from the different habitats of the region in April-June 2014-2015. However, in the process of evaluating the samples, it was found that Cercopis sanguinolenta (Scopoli, 1763) and Cercopis intermedia Kirschbaum, 1868 species were frequently confused with each other. This is because two different approaches were adopted that have resulted in a dilemma over the type of C. sanguinolenta before the “Principle of Priority” was established. With this study, not only the current controversy is eliminated, but also redescriptions of Cercopis distincta (Melichar, 1896), C. intermedia and Cercopis septemmaculata (Melichar, 1903) is made with informative images and morphometric data. Among these species, complete locality record has been provided for an uncertain Turkey records of C. septemmaculata and the first local record of C. distincta, which is defined as an endemic species in Turkey but whose terra typica is unknown, was also revealed with this study. New distribution maps of these species are presented with local and worldwide distributional data, and also an identification key is given, including other Cercopis Fabricius, 1775 species that occur in Turkey.

  • Management System Affects the Occurrence, Diversity and Seasonal Fluctuation of Auchenorrhyncha, Potential Vectors of Xylella Fastidiosa, in the Olive Agroecosystem
Bulletin of Insectology 74 (1): 27-40, 2021 ISSN 1721-8861 eISSN 2283-0332 Management system affects the occurrence, diversity and seasonal fluctuation of Auchenorrhyncha, potential vectors of Xylella fastidiosa, in the olive agroecosystem David THEODOROU1, Ioannis KOUFAKIS2,3, Zoi THANOU1, Argyro KALAITZAKI2, Ekaterini CHALDEOU1, Dimitrios AFENTOULIS1, Antonios TSAGKARAKIS1 1Agricultural University of Athens, Laboratory of Agricultural Zoology and Entomology, Athens, Greece 2Hellenic Agricultural Organization ‘DEMETER’, Institute of Olive Tree, Subtropical Plants and Viticulture, Cha- nia, Greece 3Democritus University of Thrace, Department of Agricultural Development, Laboratory of Agricultural Entomology and Zoology, Orestiada, Greece Abstract Occurrence, seasonal abundance and diversity of Xylella fastidiosa Wells et al. potential vectors species and other Auchenorrhyncha were studied in olive orchards under different management systems. Auchenorrhyncha were monitored monthly in 6 olive groves at Istiea (Central Greece) and Chania (South Greece) for 13 months using malaise traps and sweeping-net, as a sampling strategy to collect even the most, or the least-mobile Auchenorrhyncha within the orchards. Olive orchards in Chania had a lower abundance and diversity in X. fastidiosa potential vectors, as well as in total Auchenorrhyncha. The abandoned olive orchard hosted the highest population of potential vectors in Chania, but the lowest in Istiea, compared with the respective cultivated one. The organic farms were more diverse in Auchenorrhyncha compared to the other management systems in both regions. Weed control provided the most probable explanation for the significant Auchenorrhyncha population fluctuation among olive orchards. However, insecticide applications against olive fruit fly did not affect Auchenorrhyncha abundance. The conventional orchard in Istiea displayed the highest abundance and species richness of the potential vectors of X.
