The CHuRcH here was erecwd in ~tone ecclesiastical district and Stocksbridge polling 1889-91, at a cost of £6,000, as a memorial to the district of the Hallamshire division of York, union late Samuel Fox, Esq. Special Collections and Archives Ref: SLI 22 Title: Beet Lantern Slide Collection Scope: A collection of just under 2,500 lantern slides collected by Arthur Edgar Beet, an academic in the Applied Science Department at the University of Sheffield in the first half of the 20th century. Dates: Late 19th and early 20th century Level: Fonds Extent: c.2,500 slides Name of Creator: Arthur Edgar Beet Administrative/biographical history: This collection consists of just under 2,500 magic lantern slides covering a wide variety of subjects, including photographs of late 19th century Sheffield, illustrations of scenes from children’s tales and Bible stories, images of the Boer War and the First World War, portraits of important historical figures, and photographs of London and European cities. The majority of the slides are standard UK lantern slides 3¼ inches square, but there are also a wide range of panorama slides, single slipper slides, double slipper slides, glass pivot slides, rackwork slides and rare and unique homemade glass slides. Arthur Edgar Beet was a lecturer in fuel technology at the University of Sheffield in the first half of the twentieth century. He was an amateur local historian who developed an interest in collecting lantern slides and projection equipment: a large addition to his collection was made in 1954 by John Arthur Southern, who bequeathed to Beet his own collection of 800 slides and a late 19th century projector. On Beet’s death in 1968, his son, A.D.H. Beet offered to donate the collection of slides to the University of Sheffield.

It is distributed in association with Sheffield Lakeland Landscape Partnership Walkers are Welcome UK is a nationwide network which aims to encourage towns and villages to be ‘welcoming to walkers.’ Bradfield Walkers are Welcome https://bradfield-walkers.org.uk/ Stocksbridge Walkers are Welcome https://stocksbridge-walkers.org.uk/ Medium Walk: Redmires and Rivelin • Length – 5.5 miles (8.6 km) • Grade – A mixture of roads, surfaced tracks, unsurfaced paths and moorland. The initial part of route is steep and uneven. The following sections are fairly level before a moorland section is followed by a riverbank. The latter has copious tree roots. Much of the terrain is uneven. Some parts are dangerous in inclement weather. • Start – Yorkshire Water car park at Rivelin Dams. This has a height limit of 1.9 m (6’ 2”) and closes at 18:00. • Grid Reference – SK 277 866 • Parking – free, in the YW Rivelin Lower car park (S6 6GH) or the adjacent road • Public transport – There are bus stops along the A57. The 51 route terminates at Lodge Moor, close to (5). • Refreshments – The Three Merry Lads and The Sportsman are on Redmires Road • Public Toilets – none on the route Description This circular walk starts at Rivelin Dams and takes you via Wyming Brook Nature Reserve to Redmires Reservoirs and then back again via the scenic route. This journey encompasses a varied mixture of stunning scenery, including fields, moorland, woodland and riverside paths. The township embraces the following villages and hamlets, viz.: Bradfield, 7 miles N.W. by W.; Bolsterstone and Stocksbridge, 8 miles N.W.; Deepcar, 7t miles N.W.; IJungwO'T'th, Storrs, and Ughill, from [) to 7 miles N.W. by W.; Midlwpe, 10 miles N.W. ; Oughtihridge, () miles N.W. by N.; Stannington, 41 miles N.N.W.; Worrall and Loxley, () miles N.W.; Brighthotmlee, Onesacre, Smalfjield, Moorwood, Hollow Meadows, &c., from 7 to 9 miles N.W. by W.; and Wigtwizzte, 10 miles N.W. of Sheffield. Ithad 11,252 inhabitants in 1871, and comprises 38,425 acres, including 56 acres of water. This extensive parochial chapelry is in the Duke of Norfolk manors of Bradfield and Westhall and Waldershelf. The great flood of March, 1864, occasioned by the bursting of the Dale Dyke Reservoir, just completed by the Sheffield Water Works Company, caused great devastation in the Loxlcy Valley. HUADFIELD CHURCH is coeval with that of Ecclesfield, and a work of restoration was commenced in 1871, since which time £3000 has been spent o.er the fabric and stained ~'lass windows. The rectory house was built in 1857 by subscription and a loan from Queen Anne's Bounty. A large wing has been added by the present rector. The living is a rectory, "alued at £200, in the patronage of the ,"icar of E 'clesfield, and incumbency of his son, the Rev. Reginald Gatty, LL.B. At High Bradfield is a NA.TIONA.L SCHOOL, built by Mrs Rimington in 1846.
