SAINT

JANUARY 26, 2020 Third Sunday In Ordinary Time R. (1a) The Lord is my light and my salvation. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear? The LORD is my life’s refuge; of whom should I be afraid? R. The Lord is my light and my salvation. One thing I ask of the LORD; this I seek: To dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, That I may gaze on the loveliness of the LORD and contemplate his temple. R. The Lord is my light and my salvation. I believe that I shall see the bounty of the LORD in the PARISH MISSION STATEMENT land of the living. Wait for the LORD with courage; be stouthearted, and wait for the We, the members of LORD. R. The Lord is my light and my salvation. St. Ambrose Parish, believe

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Sodality Invites all to HEART TO HEART WITH THE KING Presented by Sr. Laura Brown, FSP And the Pauline Book Center Tuesday, February 11, 2020 6:30pm – Church Hall Books for all ages will be available for purchase!

Greetings Men of St. Ambrose,

We are expanding the functions of the Exodus 90 group and are welcoming new members!

The Exodus 90 program specifically:

The Exodus 90 program is an intense 90 day program for men that focuses on prayer, asceticism and fraternity. The St Ambrose Exodus 90 group completed this in early December. The results were fantastic: We became more disciplined in prayer and how we spend our time, becoming more intentional servants of Christ. In short, it made us stronger Catholic men who are committed to growing in holiness.

St. Ambrose Exodus 90 future plans:

While we will only complete the 90 day program once a year, we developed such a close bond we wanted to continue to meet and grow in faith during the interim as well. Therefore beginning February 22 the Exodus 90 group will begin a book club focused on spiritual readings, please see the details below. We welcome all men of the parish to join.

1. We will meet every other Saturday at 8:30 am beginning on February 22 to discuss portions from the current reading material. The meetings will be a group discussion as opposed to a lecture format. Information on purchasing the book will be sent in advance. 2. The first book we will be reading is The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis. It is a short book of supernatural fiction where a group of souls living in Hell take a bus trip on a sort of vacation to the outskirts of Heaven. While they are there, a number of denizens of Heaven try to convince them to leave their despair behind. It is a great book that combines Lewis' extraordinary imagination and storytelling leading readers to think on what it means to be dead to self. 3. We will take part in regular (1 hour a Month) Adoration of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.

Please contact myself, Ryan Atkinson, at [email protected] or Deacon Fragale at [email protected] for more information.

We ask all men to consider joining!

Eucharistic Ministers Needed LaFesta Booth Captain Meeting

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

…“Pause before the tabernacle by yourself, for no special reason, even without saying a word, simply remaining in Christ’s presence, contemplating the supreme gesture of love contained in the consecrated Bread”. - John Paul II

UNDERSTANDING the “REAL PRESENCE”

Over the next few weeks, we will provide some food for thought regarding the REAL PRESENCE of Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament.

What does it mean that Jesus Christ is present in the Eucharist under the appearances of bread and wine? How does this happen? The presence of the risen Christ in the Eucharist is an inexhaustible mystery that the Church can never fully explain in words. We must remember that the triune God is the creator of all that exists and has the power to do more than we can possibly imagine. As St. Ambrose said: "If the word of the Lord Jesus is so powerful as to bring into existence things which were not, then those things which already exist can be changed into something else".

The Lord Jesus, on the night before he suffered on the cross, shared one last meal with his disciples. During this meal our Savior instituted the sacrament of his Body and Blood. He did this in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the Cross throughout the ages and to entrust to the Church, his Spouse, a memorial of his death and resurrection. As the Gospel of Matthew tells us:

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins." (Mt 26:26-28; cf. Mk 14:22-24, Lk 22:17-20, 1 Cor 11:23-25) SOURCE: US Conference of Catholic Bishops

WE ARE CURRENTLY IN NEED OF ADORERS Please consider the privilege of being “up close and personal” with the Blessed Sacrament during Eucharistic Adoration. Give just one hour each week and spend quality time with Our Lord. You can use this quiet time to put your concerns before Him, to thank Him for blessings received, or just spend an hour to listen to what He may be telling you!

MONDAY evenings from: 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

WEDNESDAY evenings from: 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

FRIDAY evenings from: 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Contact one of us if you would like to join us in prayer! Bonnie Devoti at [email protected] or Caroline Ernst at [email protected]

St. Ambrose Virtue Awards Virtue Award Recipients 2nd Quarter – 2019/2020: Courage

8th Grade: Audrey Sandhaus – Courage is a virtue when we choose to do good, especially when that is most difficult. Courage demands our respect when it incurs risk without selfish motivation. Audrey displays this virtue every day. She stands up for what is right and helps others if they are being wronged. She asserts herself when necessary in conversations where she wants to be heard and to share her feelings on a subject. She is helpful in and out of the classroom in remaining calm and being a voice of reason. That is not always the easy or popular thing to do. She analyzes situations and makes good decisions because she considers all aspects, especially how they will affect others instead of just considering how it will affect herself. She is selfless in her desire in doing the right thing and caring for others. 7th Grade: Madison Ruggeri – In simple terms, courage is the ability to do what frightens you and middle school can be frightening. We expect students to advocate for themselves, take appropriate risks, take initiative and act, to be decision makers and responsibility takers. Maddie is all of these things. I have had the pleasure of watching her grow in these areas over the last two years as a member of Kolbe House. I have witnessed her use courage to stand up for herself and others and stay true to who she is. She uses this courage to handle situations with both teachers and peers, by always employing grace and humility and taking responsibility for her actions. I admire her courage during these testing teenage years and look forward to seeing her courage grow as she does. Congratulations Maddie. 6th Grade: Adrianna Reisch – Adrianna was a new student to the St. Ambrose family this year. Adrianna has been able to take courage from within to share her thoughts during class. Engaging in new surroundings takes courage and Adrianna has been able to make many new friends this year. 5th Grade: Kate Weiss – The second quarter virtue award of courage goes to Kate Weiss. Starting a new school may seem intimidating for some but Kate has shown characteristics of courage, kindness, and perseverance. You can count on her to participate in the classroom, help out a classmate, and overcome challenges both academically and socially. Kate is certainly deserving of this award. 4th Grade: Savannah Roesslein – The virtue of courage is not always easy. Savannah demonstrates this virtue by choosing to do good, especially when it is most difficult. She is an example of moral strength in the face of adversity, allowing her to support others in need and build her self-confidence while strengthening her connections with others. 3rd Grade: Emma Cusumano – Emma has done an excellent of demonstrating not just courage, cut also perseverance this quarter. Emma shows great courage by not being afraid to admit when she is struggling with academic concepts. By asking for help and support not just from me, but also from her peers shows great perseverance. Emma has learned that in order to be able to persevere when faced with life’s challenges, we must first display courage and admit that we need help. Way to go Emma! 2nd Grade: Josie Moeser – Josie shows the virtue of courage both in and out of the classroom. She is not afraid to stand up for what she believes is the right choice even when others are making different decisions. She uses courage when trying new things that are difficult for her. 1st Grade: Colin Smith – Colin shows the virtue of courage by doing what is right. He always makes responsible choices even when others are not.
