Bilton News Friday 19th May 2017 This last week has seen many positive events at our great school. Uniform Our focus on uniform has been well received by students and there has been a noticeable improvement in the way that students present themselves. This has been commented on by staff and visitors to the school. The changes to the uniform announced for September have been equally well received, with lots of positive feedback. A small number of questions raised by parents/carers have been answered by Mr Gleghorn (see page 2) Parents Evening Wednesday‟s Gabor Parents Evening saw record numbers of parents and students in attendance. There was a lovely feeling to the whole event, and it was wonderful to hear positive feedback provided by parents (see below). It is great for teachers to see their hard work and dedication being recognised. “It was very clear to me they are all passionate about their job and genuinely care I was extremely impressed. I was impressed out of all the children they teach they really knew my son and were ready with all the facts.” “The teachers were very informative and really seemed to know my child and could comment on all aspects of his work, contribution and behaviour.” Improvements to The Site We continue to improve the school site by making it more welcoming. The new plants in the main courtyard have won many compliments from students, staff and visitors. We hope you like them too. PTA It was great to see the launch of our Parent Teacher Association on Tuesday evening. There was real buzz in the meeting and it is clear that there will be lots of energy and enthusiasm put into organising fun and exiciting events in the future. A huge thank you to everyone who gave up their time, it is really appreciated. Finally have a lovely weekend everybody, and good luck to our students sitting GCSE/A level exams next week. All the hard work will be worth it when students open their examination results envelope in August. We have had some questions from parents regarding the uniform, we thought it would be great to share them with you. Where can I buy the school uniform from? We have two outlets, The Webb Ellis Store (5-6 St Matthews Street Rugby CV21 3BY 01788 567777) and The Schoolwear Centre Rugby (5 High Street Rugby CV21 3BG 01788 542202) What is the cost of the new trousers and skirts? A Bilton School KS3 girls skirt costs £15.99, A Bilton School KS4 girls skirt costs £20.99. Bilton School KS3 girls trousers cost £15.99, Bilton School KS4 girls trousers cost £19.00. Bilton School KS3 boys trousers cost £16.99, Bilton School KS4 boys trousers cost £19.99. All prices above are in line with Ashlawn School, The Harris School, RHS. When will the new uniform be ready? The new uniform will be ready from July 2017 but parents are able to pre book the clothing at both outlets, and create a payment plan at the Schoolwear Centre if required. Is my child able to use their PP funding money? Yes pupils that have PP funding are able to contact Bilton School and use their funding to pay for the new school uniform. My son/daughter grow out of clothing very quickly? For the first time we are running a second hand uniform shop at Bilton School. If you child has grown out of their uniform and we have the next size available, we will be happy to swap the clothing for you. Likewise if you have any spare Bilton School clothing you could donate to the school the please bring drop them in the school reception. Many thanks Mr T Gleghorn Walking Talking Mock Exam On Friday 12th May, in preparation for their upcoming GCSE Literature examinations, Year 10 completed a walking talking mock in Kay Hall. The Year 10s worked diligently for two hours and completed some fantastic work - some students remarked that they thought it would the strongest poetry work they have ever completed! The focus in Kay Hall was great to see and students were really challenging themselves to achieve some great quality work. During Period 5, English teachers were on hand to support their students and provide some much needed feedback at this crucial stage. Overall, the session seems to have boosted the confidence of our Year 10 Literature students and we wish them the very best of luck for their upcoming examinations on Monday 22nd and Friday 26th May. Exams — Post 16’s Friday 19th May – exam leave starts. From this date students only need to be in for their lessons. Once they have sat ALL exams for that subject they no longer have to attend those lessons. Students can still come in to use sixth form facilities if they wish – students just need to make sure they sign in with Ms Rawden if they‟re in during study periods. Friday 26th May – Y13 leavers‟ event. This will take place from around 2:45pm – all students to attend. There will be an assembly to say goodbye, food, music, priz- es and some fun activities to make it an enjoyable event. Monday 12th June – exam leave ends for Y12. Y12 return (as Y13) and go back in to normal lessons, normal routine e.g. in school all day every day. Once Y13 have finished all exams their summer holiday can commence. Monday 26th June – Work experience commences. Monday 10th July – Work experiences ends. Students back in school full time. Friday 21st July – Last school day for the year. The post would be ideally suited to applicants who feel a sense of responsibility for today‟s young people and who are able to work flexible daytime hours. Full training will be provided and working hours will be negotiated for each exam period. The role may include scribing or reading for students who have qualified for access arrangements because of special educational needs and disabilities. Training will be provided. Interested? Bilton School creating links with Dunchurch Junior School As part of Bilton School‟s on going Year 6 transition programme, Mr Gleghorn had the pleasure of visiting Dunchurch Junior School, were he met Mr Taylor the Head Teacher and discussed various ways in which both schools can work together. Bilton School will be looking to support Dunchurch with their PE provision and share best teaching practice across the English and Maths department. Dunchurch Junior School have been invited to attend Bilton Schools community programme which will be running from the 26th of June to 7th July allowing primary schools to book two hour sessions at Bilton and use our brilliant facilities. We look forward to welcoming pupils, parents and staff from Dunchurch Junior School in the future. Bilton School creating links with The Revell Primary School Mr Gleghorn had the pleasure of meeting Mr Edwards and pupils from The Revel Primary School in Monks Kirby. At Bilton School we are visiting all of our feeder primary schools to create a smooth transition for pupils coming to Bilton School this September and create links for Yr.5 pupils to come and visit Bilton School to use the fantastic facilities. Mr Gleghorn was blown away by the amazing quality of Literacy and Numeracy displayed by Yr.6 and Yr.5 pupils at The Revel School. The Revel School will pilot an exciting advanced readers course run by Mrs Weatherall in the library at Bilton School. This is will work in conjunction with the English department to gauge the reading levels of pupils when they arrive at Bilton School and enhance their literacy skills so pupils become masters of literacy throughout their time at Bilton School. Science Congratulations to our super scientists Ellie Partridge and Maisy Dalton, they have completed a week long research project on endangered animals and produced an outstanding presentation which they presented to their peers! Keep up the great work! Sporting News Year 7-10 competed in the Rugby Town Athletics championships. Despite the horrible weather everyone completed their events to the best of their ability, that is if their event went ahead due to the rain.
