Paisaje Urbano. Abstract The inclusion in the World Heritage List has been frequently assumed in Spain as a challenge to turn localities and territories into attractive destinies inside the emergent field of cultural tourism; however, the spirit of the List, that grants more responsibilities than privileges, is relegated to a background. The commitments accepted at the moment of the inclusion, among them the creation of appropriate management plans, are often forgotten or put under urban projects little respectful with heritage or even harmful to it, since their main aims are usually a pretended urban modernization or the simple real estate speculation.

Murphy Since 1975, the Spanish autonomous region ofCatalonia has been renegotiating its political and cultural place within Spain. The designation and promotion ofplaces within Catalonia as World Heritage Sites-a matter over which regional authorities have competency-provides insights into the national and territorial ideas that have emerged in recent decades. This study ofthe selection and portrayal ofWorld Heritage sites by Turisme de Cata1unya shows that the sites reflect a view ofthe region as 1) home to a distinct cultural group, 2) a place with an ancient past, and 3) a place with a history of territorial autonomy. These characteristics suggest that even though many Catalan regionalists seek a novel territorial status that is neither independent ofnor subservient to the Spanish state, the dominant territorial norms ofthe modem state system continue to be at the heart ofthe Catalan nation-building project.

Contact: [email protected] Ritualization of Ethno-nationalism: A Textual Analysis of a Hungarian Corpus Christi Procession Lisa Pope Fischer New York City College of Technology Abstract: Observing a Corpus Christi procession in post-socialist Hungary, this article uses a textual analysis to explore how the ritual mirrors post-socialist trends that affirm Hungarian identity. This article serves to both document an interesting ritual procession but also view it in light of growing ethno-nationalism that both unites a community yet also shows exclusion of others. It is like a mirror at a microcosmic level that reflects a kind of ritualization of ethno-nationalism. [Key words: Ritual Procession, Textual Analysis, Identity, Catholicism, Post-Socialist Hungary] Today is "Úrnapja" the day of the Corpus Christi procession, the Sunday two weeks after "Pünkösd" (Pentecost/Whitsuntide). On regular Sundays one might find a paltry group of elderly women in church attendance, today, however, the church overflows with young and old, neighbors and outsiders attracted to this beautiful celebration. After the mass in the church, they will all walk on the petal path to each of the four altars to honor the holy Eucharist, representing Christ’s last supper when he offered bread as his body, and wine as his blood.
