Here we found our first flowers, the extremely common Autumn Squill Prospero autumnale, the striped, hooded spathes of Friar’s Cowl Arisarum vulgare, and a number of Crocus mazziaricus. A few butterflies included Long-tailed Blue, Lang’s Short-tailed Blue, Eastern Bath White, Mallow Skipper and a Pigmy Skipper. We continued along the newly-completed coast road, before turning inland and climbing steeply into the mountains. We arrived in Kalavrita around 6pm and after settling in to our hotel, we enjoyed a delicious meal of home-cooked food at a nearby taverna. Day 2 Thursday 25th October We awoke to a sunny day with cloud over the mountains. Above Kalavrita, we explored an area of Kermes Oak scrub and open pasture, where we found more white Crocus mazziaricus and Crocus melantherus. Crocus melantherus, as its name suggests can be distinguished from other autumn-flowering species by its black anthers and purple feathering on the outer tepals. Cyclamen hederifolium was common under the shade of the trees. -

We investigate orthopteran communities in the natural landscape of the Russian Far East and compare the habitat require- ments of the species with those of the same or closely related species found in the largely agricultural landscape of central Europe. The study area is the 1,200 km2 Lazovsky State Nature Reserve (Primorsky region, southern Russian Far East) 200 km east of Vladi- vostok in the southern spurs of the Sikhote-Alin Mountains (134°E/43°N). The abundance of Orthoptera was recorded in August and September 2001 based on the number present in 20 randomly placed 1 m² quadrates per site. For each plot (i) the number of species of Orthoptera, (ii) absolute species abundance and (iii) fifteen environmental parameters characterising habitat structure and micro- climate were recorded. Canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) was used first to determine whether the Orthoptera occur in ecol- ogically coherent groups, and second, to assess their association with habitat characteristics. In addition, the number of species and individuals in natural and semi-natural habitats were compared using a t test. -

Eos, t. LXII, págs. 209-214 (1986). Rehabilitación de Odontura glabricauda (CHARPENTIER, 1825) frente a Odontura spinulicauda RAmBuR, 1838 (Orthoptera, Tettigoniidae) POR M.a CONCEPCIÓN PINEDO. Existe una notable confusión nomenclatorial acerca de la especie Odontura gla- bricauda CHARP., debido a que la descripción original es breve y los ejemplares que sirvieron para realizarla se reducen en la actualidad a un solo macho, que ha per- dido el abdomen, junto con (los hembras en estado de ninfa ; por ello, algunos autores consideran esta especie nominal no válida (nomen dubium) y prescinden de ella, mientras que otros lo admiten como nombre utilizable pero no válido, como sinónimo anterior de Odontura spinulicauda RAMBUR, no faltando quienes la admi- ten siguiendo la ley de prioridad y otros la consideran sinónimo con duda. Pero, como luego veremos, el nombre admitido por la mayoría de los autores actuales es el de O. spinulicauda. Creo que es interesante adoptar un criterio único y además seguir en lo posible lo dispuesto en el Código Internacional de Nomenclatura Zoológica, por lo que en este artículo me propongo exponer un detenido estudio de este problema taxonó- mico en el que creo evidente debe ser utilizado y, en consecuencia, rehabilitado el nombre de Odontura glabricauda CHARP. La relación cronológica de las diversas interpretaciones de los autores es COMO sigue : CHARpENTIER (1825: 101) describió con el nombre de Barbitistes glabricauda una especie basada en un número indeterminado de machos y hembras ; no men- cionó las dimensiones de los ejemplares ni dijo si eran adultos o ninfas ; tampoco publicó dibujos. En esta descripción, CHARPENTIER indica como localidad típica : "Lusitania". -

Tienstra - van derStaak, exceptfor nrs. 1,3 and 4 by the author Samenvatting In de jaren ’60 kwamen in het Gooi nog wrattenbijters (Decticus verrucivorus) voor, verdeeld over 2 popula- ties met elk zo’n 100 zingende mannetjes. Deze dieren hadden minimale afmetingen en waren vrijwel altijd van een donker-blauwgroene kleur. Het analis-cubitalis foto of veld (a, 5) was eveneens donkergroen, zeer don- kerbruin. Toen ik in 1981 tijdens een bezoek aan het Deense Hanstholm reservaat dezelfde kleurvariëteit van kwam ik de de wrattenbijter aantrof, tot hypothese van een ‘atlantische vorm’, die kustheiden van Noordwest- Europa zou bewonen. As a result, a total of 117 species-subspecies belonging to 37 genera of the family Tettigoniidae, 6 species belonging to five genera of the family Gryllidae and one species belonging to one genus of the family Gryllotalpidae have been determined from the examined material. -

Chobanov Abstract After a revision of available Orthoptera collections in Bulgaria, 9 species with one subspecies are added and 15 species and one subspecies are omitted from the list of Bulgarian fauna. A supplement to the description and a diagnosis of Iso- phya pavelii Brunner von Wattenwyl (= Isophya rammei Peshev, syn.n.) is presented. Full reference and distributional data for Bulgaria are given for 31 taxa. Oscillograms and frequency spectra of the songs of Barbitistes constrictus, Isophya pavelii and I. rectipennis are presented. Zusammenfassung Im Rahmen einer Durchsicht der verfügbaren Orthopterensammlungen in Bzlgarien wurden in die Gesamtliste der bulgarischen Fauna insgesamt neun Arten und eine Unterart neu aufgenommen sowie 15 Arten und eine Unterart von der Liste gestrichen. In der vorleigenden Arbeit werden von 31 Taxa die Refe- renz- und Verbreitungsdaten aus Bulgarien aufgelistet. Für Isophya pavelii Brun- ner von Wattenwyl (= Isophya rammei Peshev, syn.n.) erfolgt eine Ergänzung der Artbeschreibung und Differenzialdiagnose. Die Stridulationen von Barbitistes constrictus, Isophya pavelii und Isophya rectipennis werden als Frequenzspek- tren und Oszillogramme dargestellt. Introduction After a nearly 20-years break in the active studies on Orthoptera of Bulgaria, in the last years few works were published (POPOV et al. 2001, CHOBANOV 2003, ANDREEVA 2003, HELLER &LEHMANN 2004, POPOV &CHOBANOV 2004, POPOV 2007, ÇIPLAK et al. 2007) adding new faunistic and taxonomic data on the order in this country. POPOV (2007), incorporating all the published information on Or- thoptera from Bulgaria up to date, including some unpublished data, counted 239 taxa for the country (221 species and 18 subspecies).
