During the year the Ulster Scots Agency relocated their headquarters to the Corn Exchange building in the Cathedral Quarter, and in November saw the opening of the new Discover Ulster-Scots Centre on the ground floor of the building. During 2014, the Ulster Scots Agency also successfully developed an accredited course in Lambeg drumming, which has been recognised by the Open College Network. In addition they continued to work in the area of education and a grant scheme to support music and dance tuition in Primary Schools resulted in support of just over £28,000 for 49 schools. 2014 proved to be another significant year for Foras na Gaeilge also. Funding was provided for 6 lead organisations under the new funding arrangements for the core sector, and two new all-island forums (The Partnership Forum and The Language Development Forum) were created. An analysis into the results of a major language survey (conducted during 2013) was also commissioned (when the complete report is published it will be the most inclusive report ever carried out into public attitudes, ability and use of Irish throughout the island). In addition, an increased demand for Irish Language activities could also be seen during 2014, with the number of attendees at the Irish language sections at festivals increasing to 122,200 (100,000 in 2013); the number of children who participated in the Summer Camps increasing to 5,028 (4,588 in 2013); and the number of children participating in the ‘Scríobh Leabhar’ scheme increasing to 7,999 (6,721 in 2013). The positive relations between the Ulster-Scots Agency and Foras na Gaeilge continued in 2014, through co-operation on different events throughout the year. These events included projects such as the Integrated School project with Foras na Gaeilge, where the Language Body worked to devise a cultural programme to introduce key stage 3 pupils from the integrated post-primary sector to both Ulster-Scots and Irish, focusing namely on language and culture. Details of these projects and more can be found in the individual reports from the two agencies.
