Kindergarten to Year 6 will be attending the Lake Cowal Conservation Centre for an Environmental Science excursion. Students are departing school at 8:45am and will return to school at 3:00pm. Please ensure that ALL students are wearing full school uniform (including long pants) and a school hat. They will also need to bring recess and a water bottle. Book Week ‘Dress as Your Favourite Book Character’ Day on NEXT Friday the 23rd of August. Students will be parading their costumes around in the hall at 10:45am. Parents are welcome to come and see our wonderful costumes. Wanted: Donations of any kind of animal manure for the school gardens would be greatly appreciated. NSW CHS CROSS COUNTRY th On Friday 26 July, Jack Crofts raced in the NSW CHS Cross Country Championships at Eastern Creek. With very little training in the month leading up to the race due to recovering from an ankle injury, Jack was happy to place 73rd out of 87 in the 14 years age group. CHS WESTERN ATHLETICS Hugh Williams and Jack Crofts (pictured right) competed at the Western CHS Athletics Championships in Dubbo on nd Friday, 2 August. Jack’s results in the Boys 14 years : 800m – Placed 8th 1500m – Placed 4th 3000m – Placed 2nd Jack now competes at the NSWCHSSA Secondary Athletics Championships on Wednesday 4th September. Hugh’s results in the Boys 13 years: 400m – Placed 16th and ran a PB! 800m – Place 9th 1500m – Place 15th Recently the Secondary Lawn Bowls team travelled to Ardlethan to compete in the Central Schools Knockout. The teams competing on the day were Ungarie, Coolamon and Ardlethan. Under dark and threatening skies, action got under way with Coolamon and Ardlethan playing the first match. Ardlethan played strongly to finish 9 ends 6 shots in front. Ungarie then played Coolamon, and struggled to match the Coolamon players finesse CENTRAL SCHOOLS BOWLS KNOCKOUT and touch. Coolamon won easily, with the score being 20-6. This put Ungarie pretty much out of contention to advance to Dubbo (the top two teams from this day made it), but they continued to try hard against the strong Ardlethan outfit. Ungarie played better in their second game, although losing in a tight match 11-6. The team consisted of Daniel Potter, Josh Roscarel and Abby Wason. EDUCATION WEEK Ungarie Central School held its Education Week open classrooms and assembly on Friday 9th August. With the theme of the week ‘Every student, every voice’ quotes or comments from every UCS students were displayed in the hall. The assembly included the presentation of Home Reader and Education Week Awards, performances by numerous classes and an address from Mrs Terrie Payne and former student Bec Keatley. Bec Keatley was the 'Returning Student Guest Speaker' at our Education Week Assembly today. Bec attended UCS from Kindergarten in 1997 until graduating from Yr 12 in 2009. When Bec finished Yr 12 she had no idea what she wanted 'to be' and says she still doesn't know........ but she knew what she wanted 'to do'! With a passion for travelling, meeting people, socialising and enjoying life Bec has continually been employed in a wide variety of jobs and completed numerous training courses. From swimming teacher, to mine worker, to selling spare parts for machinery, to cleaning motel rooms to currently working as a member of a truck sales team, Bec has focussed on the idea that you 'Work to live, not live to work'.
