  • Collector Cars; Childhood Dream Or Sound Investment Opportunity?
Collector cars; childhood dream or sound investment opportunity? -hedonic regression analysis of the collector car market- [The main question of this study is whether collector cars can be considered as a viable investment opportunity. In order to answer that question, first this study tries to identify the relevant variables that determine sale prices of collector cars at auctions. Second, it creates a price index on collector cars through hedonic regression analysis on data from 1,200 cars sold on auction between 1996 and 2011. Ultimately it will compare the resulting collector car index with indices on other assets and look at the potential of collector cars to be part of investment portfolios to answer the main question. The study concludes that, with some limitations, collector cars can be regarded as viable investment opportunities] Master Thesis Financial Management Name: Jacob Johannes Pesman Student number: 135961 August 31st, 2012 Tilburg University Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEB) Department Finance Thesis Supervisor: Dr. L.D.R. In concept, this book started life as a Provenance. As such, it set about to verify the date, location and driver history of the sixth Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa produced, serial number 0718. Many an automotive author has generously given of his time and ink to write about the many limited series competition cars to come from Maranello individually and as a whole. The 250 TR has been often and lovingly included. Much has been scholastic in its veracity, some, adding myth to the legend. After a year's investigation on 0718, and many more on Ferrari's operation, the author has here constructed a family photo album, with interwoven narrative. The narrative is the story that came forward from the author's investigation and richly illustrative interviews conducted into 0718 specifically. To provide a deeper insight into the 250 TR itself we delve into the engineering transformation within Maranello that resulted in the resurrection of the competition V-12 engine, the unique (to the firm at that point) chassis it was placed in, and a body design that gave visual signature to this 1958 customer sports racer. From these elements was composed the publication you now hold. It is the Provenance of a Ferrari, that became the telling of a fifty-year-old mystery, red herrings and all. • The Detomaso Mangusta an Italian Exotic That Happened by Accident
The DeTomaso Mangusta An Italian exotic that happened by accident.. By Rick Feibusch In the good old days, years before the implementation of emissions and safety laws, exotic high-performance automakers woul d just build a car, display it at a few key international auto shows and start taking orders. There wasn't even a legal requirement that the manufacturer road test a prototype before the first production models were delivered to the public! Italian automakers were particularly prone to using the public to test their cars - after delivery. The DeTomaso Mangusta was a particularly interesting example. The Mangusta was born out of the ambition of Argentinian race driver Alejandro De Tomaso who, like many othe r racers, yearned to build his own cars. DeTomaso was born to a wealthy family in a small town near Buenos Aires. He left Argentina in 1955, just one step ahead of Juan Peron's goon squads, having offended the great dictator with political writings publi shed in a local newspaper. Peron, like his idol Adolph Hitler, loved sports cars and heavily supported successful drivers like Juan Manuel Fangio because he believed that if drivers from his country won races, it showed a national superiority. Since DeTomaso wouldn't play ball, he was excluded from the gravy train. DeTomaso left for Italy, the land of his grandparents with only $126 in his racing jumpsuit He met Isabelle Haskell, a rich American woman who owned and raced a Siata and a Maserati. In those d ays, women racers were a rare and unproven commodity, and Ms.
