20 March 2018 Dear Parents/Guardians, Greetings and welcome to an exciting term 2 ahead! We are glad to share that many of our students have settled down well and are giving their Best to learn and interact with their teachers and friends. We hope to continue to work with you closely and ensure that all our students are well supported Both in school and at home. We would like to highlight some important dates and events to note in Term Two. 1. Sports Day The school will Be conducting the Sports Heats on Friday, 23 March at ITE College Central (Ang Mo Kio). The Sports and Games Day will Be held on Thursday, 29 March also at ITE College Central (Ang Mo Kio). Parents/Guardians are invited for to join in the fun and activities for Both the two days. Please see Annex A for information on transport matters. 2. Reading Assessment The English department will conduct the Reading Assessment for the respective levels as shown Below. The oBjective of administering this reading assessment is to allow the English teachers to assess their reading aBilities and provide the necessary support. Year 2: Tuesday, 27 March (3:15pm to 5pm, School Hall) Year 3: Tuesday, 3 April (3:15pm to 5pm, School Hall) 3. Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Assessment @ Lifelong Learning Institute (Paya Lebar) Students from Year 3 and Year 4 will Be Brought to the Lifelong Learning Institute at Paya LeBar to attempt the WPLN assessments for Listening, Reading and Numeracy. The assessments are part of the English and Mathematics curriculum. Details are listed below: Level Date WPLN Year 3 26 March - 2 April Listening & Reading Year 4 (selected classes) 14 May - 25 May Numeracy 1 4. Mid-Year Examinations Please Be informed of our Mid-year Examination Schedule (see Annex B). The reporting time will Be 7.45am and school will end as usual, according to their timetable. 5. Marking Day Please Be informed that Friday, 11 May is marking day and your child/ward does not need to report to school. 6. Post-Examination Activities Post Exam Activities conducted from 16 to 18 May for all students. We will furnish you with more details at a later date. 7. Meet the Parents session There will Be a Meet-the-Parents session on Wednesday, 23 May. Your child’s/ward’s Form Teacher will arrange to meet up with you and furnish you with more details at a later date. 8. Last Day of School Last day of school for Term 2 will Be on Friday, 25 May. 9. Singapore Student Learning Space As part of its commitment to nurturing future-ready learners, the Ministry of Education had announced that all students in Singapore schools will be supported in their learning By the Singapore Student Learning Space (SLS), an online learning platform that contains curriculum-aligned resources and learning tools. With the SLS, students will Be aBle to learn Better through the use of technology. Students will Be able to learn anytime, anywhere, and at their own pace, whether independently or with their peers. Teachers will also Be aBle to use the SLS to complement their classroom teaching, further enriching students’ learning experience. SLS is Being rolled out to all schools in phases. The students in our school will Be given their accounts in April 2018. Our teachers will guide your child in activating the SLS account and using the learning platform. We look forward to your support as we help our students strengthen their learning through the SLS. 10. School Insurance for all Students Insurance coverage is provided for all enrolled students of NorthLight School. The insurance provider is NTUC Income. Please refer to Annex C for details. 2 11. Travel Declaration If your child/ward is travelling during the June holidays, please suBmit his/her travel plans online. Please logon to www.nls.edu.sg: § Select > Student Travel Declaration Form § Type in the user name and password However, if you wish to suBmit a hardcopy declaration instead, please ask your child/ward to request for a copy of the form from his/her Form Teacher or the General Office. Through such declaration and related practices, we help ensure our students well-being as well as learn to be socially responsible. All declarations must Be suBmitted by 25 May, Friday. 12. Regular School Attendance NorthLight School is committed to facilitating student success and student learning. Our experience and records indicate that students who attend class regularly with a minimum number of absences have a much Better chance of succeeding in school. We seek your assistance and guidance in ensuring that your child/ward maintains the Best possible attendance record. We wish your child/ward another fruitful term ahead. With effect from 2018, NTUC Income has allowed parents to submit an online claim through the e-claim portal. Parents can log on to https://studentgpaadp.incomegroupins.com.sg/ Points to note: 1. For outpatient including minor/day surgery claims, you are not required to submit the original tax invoice(s)/receipts(s). However, you must keep the original tax invoice(s)/receipt(s) for at least 6 months from claim submission date and it must be made readily available upon Insurer’s request. 2. For inpatient claims, you have to submit the original tax invoice(s)/receipt(s) to: NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative Limited c/o No. 31 International Business Park #02-09 Creative Resource Singapore 609921 3. Please ensure your email address and handphone number in the e-claim portal are correct 4. Please prepare your scanned receipt/report for uploading before proceeding with a new eSubmission. Scanned files must meet the following criteria: *Acceptable file formats are pdf, jpg, jpeg and png *Maximum allowable size for each attachment is up to 10MB.
