Most Importantly… Listen to my children and support my children in their decision for the selected education pathway Referenced from Republic Poly How can parents play a role? Find a balance Advertisement Your job as a parent is to help your child achieve the optimal balance between being too relaxed and being paralysed by anxiety. Try to listen, absorb, and contain the distress of your child through affirmation and reassurance. Make sure they know that their worth to you and others is separate from their achievements. It also helps for parents to put things in perspective: exams are important but your child's whole life does not depend on them, although it may feel like that at the time. Think back to your own youth and remember that when the worst happened, it usually wasn't as bad as you expected: it's what you did next that made the difference. The main thing to keep in mind is that your child is an independent young adult. It's pointless to try to be a "snow plough" parent and clear all obstacles out of the way of your child's development. Engaging with challenging experiences such as finals and important exams is essential for young people to develop internal skills and resources, and will provide them with the confidence and emotional resilience needed to cope with the future challenges of work and adult life. Seeing exam stress as a necessary part of the learning process should help your own peace of mind too. How can parents play a role? “... rather than trying to directly ‘teach’ their children, the more important work of parents can be found in helping kids handle distractions, negotiating crises of confidence, praise for effort and persistence or constructively handling conflict while being positive about school as a whole. Bit by bit, this effort builds a solid foundation for success.” Hands-On, Minds-On, Hearts-OnTM Electronics (Instrumentation) Leisure & Travel Operations Aerospace Avionics One ITE System, Three Colleges ITE College Central @ Ang Mo Kio Niche areas: Aerospace & Marine Technology, Business, Community & Event Services, Creative Design & Interactive Media, Engineering Design & Manufacturing Technology ITE College East @ Simei Niche areas: Beauty & Wellness, Business & Entrepreneurship, Chemical & Life Sciences, Healthcare Services ITE College West @ Choa Chu Kang Niche areas: Culinary & Hospitality Services, Land Transport, Service Innovation, Security Technology Global Education Programme Student Achievements • 3 Golds, 2 Silvers and 9 Medallions for Excellence 42nd WorldSkills Competition 2013 Leipzig, Germany • 6 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronze Medals 10th ASEANSkills Competition 2014 Hanoi, Vietnam • Silver Garden Award Putrajaya Flower and Garden Festival "Floria 2013" Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Catherine Boey Gold Medalist WorldSkills Competition Germany, Leipzig 2013 Student Achievements • Bronze Award Singapore Kindness Movement’s Cheer-‘O’- Mania Competition 2013 • Champion National Acapella Championships 2013 • 23rd Singapore International Film Festival 2010 Students’ digital animation work “Frank & Fridge” selected for screening Many Exciting Opportunities Courses available under 3-year Nitec Programme: Progression Opportunities Local/Overseas Degree ITE or Polytechnic Diploma Higher Nitec Course 3-Year Nitec 2-Year Nitec Course Course GCE N(A) / GCE N(T) GCE ‘O’ Reach for Success with ITE On average, close to 90% of ITE graduates attained full-time employment within 6 months of graduation.
