Sword Points
Transforming Lives Through Jesus Christ Sword Points October 5, 2017 www.SaintPaulsBrookfield.com (203) 775-9587 † Questioning, Pondering & Pursuing as a Faith Response Wisdom is proved right by all her children. Luke 7:35 Dear Friends, ast Monday evening, as our Men’s Bible Study L studied the Book of Job, our discussion ranged from the text, to Einstein's theory of relativity, to physics as poetry, to the concept of time itself. God's presence was experienced powerfully, as moments of silent wonder filled our space, especially among the questions. As God asks Job seventy-seven questions in the final chapters, we too returned the questioning, pondering and pursuing as a faith response to God. This very Hebrew approach of answering a question with a question is part of the path toward divine wisdom. As one of our participants shared: we were on the mountaintop together. May we continue to reach new heights and depths with God, especially in our Bible studies at St. Paul's throughout each week, through the One who bridges the questions and the answers, the fountain of all wisdom, Jesus Christ our Lord. Faithfully, † Dear Paul... Yet another "Sword Points" exclusive! This week only (thankfully)! Our very own namesake and patron saint the Colossal Apostle Paul picks up his pithy pen once again to grace this page as special guest advice columnist to the thinking Christian: as transcribed by John Tuthill Dear Apostle Paul, Like clockwork every single year, by December 1st our next-door neighbor always puts up THE most over-the-top display of flashing Christmas lights and decorations. -

Strange Days: The American Media Debates The Doors, 1966-1971 Maximillian F. Grascher 2 Introduction Throughout the course of American history, there have been several prominent social and political revolutions carried out by citizens dissatisfied with the existing American institutions run by the government and its civil servants. Of these revolutions, Vietnam War and civil rights protest among youth in the 1960s was of the most influential, shaping American society in the decades to come. With US involvement in Vietnam escalating and the call for African-American civil rights becoming more insistent by the year, thousands of America’s youth took to the streets to protest the country’s foreign and domestic policies and to challenge the US government, much to the anger of America’s older generations. Artists played a critical role in the unrest, including musicians who encouraged a reformation of American society’s established norms through revolution. -
