Ruta Mágica De Las Artesanías Invita a Conocer Parte De Los Trabajos Manuales De Este Inmenso Estado En Oaxaca, la alfarería es un trabajo de gran tradición. La especial magia que emana el estado de Oaxaca atrae la atención de viajeros de México y de todo el mundo. Entre otras muchas razones, esto se debe a que es un lugar tradicional, misterioso y fuertemente marcado por los pueblos indígenas que lo habitan. Pero también abierto a experimentar con nuevas tendencias estéticas y culturales. Así, su vibrante artesanía, sus artistas plásticos de vanguardia, sus coloridas fiestas y su espectacular gastronomía hacen de Oaxaca un lugar sumamente atractivo. En el centro del estado se encuentra la Ciudad de Oaxaca, una fascinante y hospitalaria capital en cuyo entorno se ubican diver- sas poblaciones, cada una con una personalidad y una tradición artesanal propia, acompañadas de sus respectivas costumbres, fiestas y platillos. La Ruta Mágica de las Artesanías invita a conocer parte de los trabajos manuales de este inmenso estado. Pues el tan especial lugar que ocupa Oaxaca en México y el mundo se debe en gran medida a las incontables y magníficas manos de los artesanos que con gran sensibilidad y creatividad plasman minuciosamente sus sueños, ilusiones, aspiraciones y necesidades espirituales en piezas de barro, madera, metal, piedra, hiloseda o algodón. Ruta Mágica de las Artesanías: arte y magia multicolor El recorrido que se propone es una invitación a: Encontrarse con el arte y la creatividad plasmados en los finos to- ques que, con amor y dedicación, le dan a cada una de sus piezas los habitantes de las seis comunidades que integran la Ruta Mágica de las Artesanías. Atestiguar los procesos artesanales de los grandes maestros oaxaqueños, quienes conservan y transmiten técnicas aprendidas de generación en generación. Su destreza y talento han hecho brillar el arte popular de las localidades de los Valles Centrales, y colo- cado el nombre de Oaxaca muy en alto, al llevar la magia de su cultura más allá de sus fronteras. Conocer las comunidades que atraviesa la ruta, en las cuales las distintas artesanías —talla de madera, cerámica de barro verde vidria- do y negro, textiles de hilo-seda y algodón o piezas de cuchillería—, ya sean utilitarias o de ornato, constituyen un motor fundamental en la economía familiar y comunitaria. Disfrutar la deliciosa gastronomía tradicional de la región, visitar los museos y templos, compartir la sencilla vida de las poblaciones y, sobre todo, llenarse los ojos y el alma de la magia multicolor que surge de las maravillosas manos de los artesanos oaxaqueños. El proceso de elaboración de las vistosas piezas comienza con la extracción del barro en las minas de San Lorenzo Cacaotepec, población ubicada a 4 kilómetros de Santa María Atzompa. De vuelta a los patios de sus casas, los artesanos lo colocan sobre un torno que hacen girar con los pies, para después amasar con las manos y formar poco a poco la pieza deseada. Para cortar, raspar, lijar y pulir las piezas, se ayudan con herramien- tas simples como cucharas, cueros, tenazas, piedras y pedazos de morral. Una vez formadas, las figuras se dejan a la intemperie aproxi- madamente una semana, de manera que resistan la primera cocción en el horno. El color verde característico de esta cerámica se logra, sobre el barro ya cocido, mediante la aplicación de greta, un polvo que, mezclado con agua, se impregna en cada pieza, la cual se hornea nuevamente. Y con esta laboriosa técnica del barro verde vidriado, en Santa María Atzompa se elaboran macetas, cazuelas, comales, jarros, ollas y muchos otros artículos utilitarios y de ornato. Her father died when she was a young teenager, and she was then sent to live with the family of her half brother. It was here that she met the young Manuel Alvarez Bravo, a neighbor. They married in 1925 and moved to Oaxaca where Manuel was an accountant for the federal government. Manuel had taken up photography as an adolescent; he taught Lola and they took pictures together in Oaxaca. Manuel also taught Lola how to develop film and make prints in the darkroom.

In San Martin Tilcajete and San Antonio Arrazola, known for whimsical carved wood animals and "alebrijes," we'll join Julia Fuentes, Eleazar Morales and Mario Castellanos. In Teotitlan del Valle, the legendary "tapestry" weaving town, we'll visit the family of recognized artisan, Porfirio Gutierrez, recently awarded by the Smithsonian Institution for his work with his ancient family and Zapotec community in the revival and use of natural dyes in their weavings.     "A Day in Oaxaca" Created by: Cityseeker 4 Locations Bookmarked Monte Albán "Zapotec Legacy" Wedged between stark elemental features – blue skies and an ochre, parched terra – Monte Albán sits on a flattened promontory, exemplifying nearly 1500 years of pre-Columbian civilization. Monte Albán rises 400 meters (1300 feet) above the valley floor of Oaxaca, and a wave of history, dominated by the cultures of Olmecs, Zapotecs and Mixtecs sweeps by User: (WT-shared) through its pyramidal structures. Shrines, palaces, terraced platforms, Anyludes atwts wikivoyage tombs and mounds are scattered across this significant archaeological site, each pointing to Monte Albán's central role in Mesoamerican civilization. At the core of this complex is the Main Plaza, a monumental structure that is dominated by a series of stairs that amble up its southern platform, while small temples, residences and ballcourts are strewn across its surroundings. Several stone structures indicate that morbid sacrificial activities and ceremonies were conducted here. One of the earliest examples of these structures are the Danzantes, a set of figures that harken to the Olmec culture. A few important stone etchings and carvings found on the site have been encased within an on-site museum. Carretera Oaxaca-Monte Albán, 8 kilometers west of Oaxaca City, Oaxaca Árbol del Tule "Magnificent & Ancient Flora" The Árbol del Tule is a gigantic ahuehuete, or cypress, tree located in the town of Santa Maria del Tule, 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) east of Oaxaca City. This legendary tree measures 36.2 meters around and is anywhere from 1200 to 3000 years old. The tree reportedly grows on a sacred Zapotec site.
