News Release News Release GraceKennedy Ltd to acquire Consumer Brands Ltd [Kingston, Jamaica July 7, 2017] GraceKennedy Limited today announced that it has agreed to acquire 100 percent ownership of Consumer Brands Limited, a large player in the Jamaican distribution market. The acquisition is expected to be finalized before the end of Q3 2017. Among the brands distributed by Consumer Brands is the Procter and Gamble (P&G) line of products which the company has distributed in Jamaica since 1992. Consumer Brands also distributes products for ten other international and local principals through chain and independent supermarkets, wholesalers, pharmacies, beauty supply outlets and convenience stores. With sales of over $2 billion annually, the company has consistently achieved significant annual revenue growth since its establishment. "This valuable portfolio of brands brings welcomed expansion to the range of products that we distribute in Jamaica. Our expertise in managing top tier brands and deep distribution channels make us a natural fit for this acquisition and we expect the products to continue to perform very well," said Don Wehby, Group CEO of GraceKennedy. Consumer Brands will become a subsidiary of the GraceKennedy Group under GraceKennedy Foods. Athol Smith, who has been Managing Director of Consumer Brands, will remain with the company as an advisor during the transition period. P&G brands are some of the most recognizable international fast moving consumer goods with household names such as Charmin, Bounty, Ariel, Downy, Tide, Always, Tampax, Pampers, Febreze, Crest and Olay among its products. “We are very excited about this acquisition and look forward to working with P&G and all other stakeholders,” Mr. Wehby said. - ### - Contact: Klao Bell Lewis Head of Corporate Communications Tel. INSPECTIONNot For Reproduction COPY Harvard Business School INSEAD 1 One Sunday night in July of 1989, Claude Meyer and his delivery team for Ariel Ultra were on a train speeding from Brussels to Paris. They had spent 18 months developing P&G’s first compact laundry detergent for the European market, and now, as they were finalizing the details of a meticulously planned pan-European launch, they learned that Unilever was about to launch a similar product in France—two months ahead of P&G. Meyer, European Regional Vice President for laundry products, and his team were brainstorming responses to their longtime rival’s pricing tactics, package sizes, and a premium-niche marketing strategy, all of which differed significantly from P&G’s European plan. As the train sped towards Paris, they debated whether to change their approach to the French market to meet Unilever’s challenge, or continue with their original intention to implement a consistent Europe-wide strategy.

  • Hoe P&G Het Leven Van De Belgische Consument Verbetert Sinds 1956

  • 2.2.9. Procter & Gamble
1 Dirty recyclables of a Procter & Gamble brand Credit: Les Stone P&G has made no commitments regarding collection, and neither calls for legislation in this area nor mentions support for DRS. It high- lights different targets on its US environmental sustainability webpage6 than on its UK equivalent.7 At the time of writing, there was no reference to the development of reuse-and-refill delivery models for P&G products on their UK site;8 on its US site, however, the company highlights its 2019 participation in test programmes with TerraCycle’s Loop project in New York and Paris,9 in which its brands Pantene, Gillette and Venus were included.10 When it comes to reduction of virgin-plastic use, P&G states alternative materials will only be used ‘when it makes sense’, and that lightweighting, increasing recycled content and moving towards more concentrated products will take priority.11 However, this does not appear to involve an absolute reduction in the total number of single-use plastic-packaging units. It is also unclear what instances the company will consider using alternative materials in, and which types of materials. In another document on the company’s brand criteria for 2030, it states it will achieve ‘a meaningful increase in responsibly-sourced bio-based, or recycled or more resource efficient materi- als’;12 however, this commitment is nebulous because it does not include an actual target, timeframe or more detail on what ‘responsi- bly-sourced’ means. When it comes to minimum recycled content, P&G talks about ‘continuously innovating with recycled plastic’,13 and, according to As You Sow, has a recycled-content target of 8% for 2025.14 This is a very modest increase – from 6.3% in 2018.

  • Early Days 1970–1985
Olay Olay is an American skin care line. It is one of the top skin care retail brands in the world, except for Japan, and is one of Procter & Gamble's multi-billion dollar brands. For the 2009 fiscal year ended June 30, Olay accounted for an estimated $2.8 billion of P&G's $79 billion in revenue. Early days Olay originated in South Africa as Oil of Olay. Graham Wulff (1916-2008), an ex-Unilever chemist from Durban, started it in 1949. The name "Oil of Olay" was chosen by Wulff as a spin on the word "lanolin", a key ingredient. It was unique in the early days because it was a pink fluid rather than a cream, packaged in a heavy glass bottle. Wulff and his marketing partner, Jack Lowe, a former copywriter, had tested the product on their wives and friends and were confident in its uniqueness and quality. Olay's marketing was also unique, since it was never described as a moisturizer, nor even as beauty fluid. Nowhere on the packaging did it say what the product actually did. Print adverts used copy such as “Share the secret of a younger looking you” and talked about the „beauty secret‟ of oil of Olay. Other adverts were written as personal messages to the reader from a fictitious advice columnist named Margaret Merril. They ran in Readers’ Digest and newspapers and often looked like editorials. Wulff and Lowe, who ran the company under the banner of Adams National Industries (ANI), did not sell the product to the trade, but waited for pharmacies to ask for it based on consumer requests.
