Event 1: 50 years of Conservation Areas in Scotland, Carlops and Skirling (on Thursday 19 April 2018): Looking back at what has been achieved through Conservation Areas in the past and forward to what is happening today and planned in the future. The first two conservation areas in Scotland, designated simultaneously by Peebleshire County Council and published in the Edinburgh Gazette on 19 April 1968, were Carlops and Skirling. The next notice was that by Midlothian County Council for its part of Carlops. We aim to first explore Penicuik Conservation area with Midlothian Council , where a CARS is in preparation.
