FEMMES aims to inspire young girls, encouraging them to consider their potential in science and math. Each event features hands-on activities led by volunteers. Chemistry’s undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty are very active in the Michigan chapter of FEMMES. On a recent Saturday, FEMMES brought 300 girls to campus from Detroit and area schools to participate in twenty different activities. The liquid nitrogen activity was supervised by Assistant Professor Corinna Schindler’s students. The FEMMES group also does afterschool activities, and over four years has reached more than 1000 girls and 40 schools.
