Material was pitfall trapped in 2010 and 2011 on twelve sites of the agricultural landscape in the Prešov town and its near vicinity, Eastern Slovakia. A total of 14,763 ground beetle individuals were entrapped. Material collection resulted into 92 Carabidae species, with the following six species dominating: Poecilus cupreus, Pterostichus melanarius, Pseudoophonus rufipes, Brachinus crepitans, Anchomenus dorsalis and Poecilus versicolor. Studied habitats differed significantly in the number of entrapped individuals, activity abundance as well as representation of the carabids according to their habitat preferences and ability to fly. However, no significant distinction was observed in the diversity, evenness neither dominance.

  • Final Report 1
Sand pit for Biodiversity at Cep II quarry Researcher: Klára Řehounková Research group: Petr Bogusch, David Boukal, Milan Boukal, Lukáš Čížek, František Grycz, Petr Hesoun, Kamila Lencová, Anna Lepšová, Jan Máca, Pavel Marhoul, Klára Řehounková, Jiří Řehounek, Lenka Schmidtmayerová, Robert Tropek Březen – září 2012 Abstract We compared the effect of restoration status (technical reclamation, spontaneous succession, disturbed succession) on the communities of vascular plants and assemblages of arthropods in CEP II sand pit (T řebo ňsko region, SW part of the Czech Republic) to evaluate their biodiversity and conservation potential. We also studied the experimental restoration of psammophytic grasslands to compare the impact of two near-natural restoration methods (spontaneous and assisted succession) to establishment of target species. The sand pit comprises stages of 2 to 30 years since site abandonment with moisture gradient from wet to dry habitats. In all studied groups, i.e. vascular pants and arthropods, open spontaneously revegetated sites continuously disturbed by intensive recreation activities hosted the largest proportion of target and endangered species which occurred less in the more closed spontaneously revegetated sites and which were nearly absent in technically reclaimed sites. Out results provide clear evidence that the mosaics of spontaneously established forests habitats and open sand habitats are the most valuable stands from the conservation point of view. It has been documented that no expensive technical reclamations are needed to restore post-mining sites which can serve as secondary habitats for many endangered and declining species. The experimental restoration of rare and endangered plant communities seems to be efficient and promising method for a future large-scale restoration projects in abandoned sand pits.

Almost 300 species were collected on fungi and in flight interception traps. Among them, 18 species were recorded from the Western Beskid Mts. for the first time, 41 were new records for the Babia Góra NP, and 16 were from various categories on the Polish Red List of Animals. The first certain record of Bolitochara tecta ASSING, 2014 in Poland is reported. KEY WORDS: beetles, macromycetes, ecology, trophic interactions, Polish Carpathians, UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Introduction Beetles of the Babia Góra massif have been studied for over 150 years. The first study of the Coleoptera of Babia Góra was by ROTTENBERG th (1868), which included data on 102 species. During the 19 century, INTERESTING BEETLES (COLEOPTERA) IN THE BABIA GÓRA NP 213 several other papers including data on beetles from Babia Góra were published: 37 species were recorded from the area by KIESENWETTER (1869), a single species by NOWICKI (1870) and 47 by KOTULA (1873).

Entomol. Fennica 30: 114125. https://doi.org/ 10.33338/ef.84086 The paper presents new data on the occurrence of 69 beetle species collected in 2017 in the Bia³owie¿a Forest, NE Poland. The list contains representatives of 27 families: Anthribidae, Bostrichidae, Ciidae, Cleridae, Coccinellidae, Corylo- phidae, Cryptophagidae, Curculionidae, Dasytidae, Elateridae, Endomychidae, Eucnemidae, Histeridae, Laemophloeidae, Latridiidae, Leiodidae, Lycidae, Me- landryidae, Mycetophagidae, Ptinidae, Ripiphoridae, Salpingidae, Staphyli- nidae, Tenebrionidae, Tetratomidae, Throscidae, and Zopheridae. The majority of the species represents saproxylic, i.e. dead wood-dependent, beetles. Biology and distribution of some rarely recorded species are briefly discussed. All species are reported for the first time from the Bia³owie¿a Forest and, furthermore, Corticaria crenicollis Mannerheim, 1844 (Latridiidae) is new for the fauna of Poland. R. Plewa, T.
