WORLD ORGANIC FORUM Localizing SDGs AKADEMIE Creating a Network of Sustainable 16.-18.3.2021 ONLINE TAGUNG Development Goal Regions Project 1: Bruderkalb / Dairy Calves Bio-Musterregion Hohenlohe, Germany The initiative of Hohenlohe organic farmers is committed to the species-appropriate rearing SDGs to project: of calves from dairy cattle farming. To this end, a sales channel is being created for veal from cow-bound rearing. The animals remain with the cow or a heifer for three months after birth. The male calves in particular, which are not well suited to fattening, are then slaughtered in the region, processed and sold as high-quality veal products. The project promotes smallholder far- ming, regional food production and animal husbandry in keeping with the local character.

WORLD ORGANIC FORUM Localizing SDGs AKADEMIE Creating a Network of Sustainable 16.-18.3.2021 ONLINE TAGUNG Development Goal Regions Project 2: Organic catering Bio-Musterregion Hohenlohe, Germany Together with producers and restaurateurs in the Hohenlohe region, more organic products are to SDGs to project: be brought into community catering. Pilot projects are planned with company canteens, educa- tional institutions and nursing homes. The first bioregional dishes have already been offered in a local company canteen. The challenges in the project lie in the bundling of the regional supply, the quality of supply and the delivery quantities required by large canteens.

In order to teach young farmers the advantages of organic far- SDGs to project: ming, we cooperate with the two regional agricultural schools. One of the schools offers evening classes on the topics of environmental protection, landscape conservation and organic farming. These lessons are perfect for part-time farmers and those who wish to become part-time farmers. The second agricultural school offers an organic farming week for students in their third year of training. In addition to theoretical content offered by external speakers and teachers, the stu- dents get the opportunity to visit organic farms and organic companies in the region.
