    Best Of British Car Run Sunday 10th March 2019 A typical Best of British Sunday morning start at the Victoria Street Carpark with a bit of a chill in the air welcomed the start crew at around 8 30 am. Ross and Veneta Allan and Carleen and myself were the Rover Car Club volun- teers .Joining six other car club representatives in organising the parking and starting procedures and documentation. A 9 am start was envisaged with several British cars commenced departing then the start line went dead as drivers continued their conversations at the groups of cars..Follo0wing some procedural changes the event proceded smoothly after a hurry along among the drivers was made. Finally about 10 15am we were able to depart for the run to Dunback. At Palmerston the Rover Car Club met at the usual Café for a Cuppa and Natter before continuing to Dunback. Ray Pillay and Rebacca Fox had headed to Dunback earlier to set up the gazabos on the Rover allocated site for us. These proved a boon in the cloudy weather when the temperature dropped and shelter was required.. After a pleasant lunch and wander around the British cars on display, the prize giving was made and departure commenced around 3 pm. Club turnout was :- Ross & Veneta Allan 1964 Rover P4 110. However, we still live in one of the best parts of the country and there’s still plenty of great weather to look forward to before the on- slaught of our winter. The weather has been pretty good so far there’s been the odd rain day and a frost or two but nothing to grizzle about and as we drive around town, travelling to and from work or cruising around the country side, the autumn colours are becoming more spectacular each day and we can appreciate just how good this part of New Zealand is. As you will see elsewhere there are a number of get togethers and events coming up; we have the Memorial Run in May, our AGM in July and plans are becoming to take shape for our display at the Auto-spectacular; a celebration of the Rover P4, 70 years of a model run that has stood the test of time and are a legacy of sound engineering and design.

    My Porsche Story Many late nights to get it to look like this My First Porsche - 911SC 1982 Beware owning Porsches can be very addictive!! It started many years ago in the early 90s, having had a succession of Austins including a Cooper S, Rover P5 3 Ltr and SD1 3.5 Ltr SE, several Fords, BMWs including a 525E and a 6 series. Over the years I always (since the late 70s) hankered for a 911. Don’t ask me why, I fell in love with the shape and vowed to get one eventually! Someone once said to me that if you want it bad enough and you sacrifice then you can have whatever you want. With that being the case eventually I had enough money put together (by including the sale of my 6 series BMW) to look for a modest car. How difficult could that be? I had joined the Porsche Club GB a year earlier and there were, before the days of eBay and online car sales, plenty of adverts in the Porsche Club magazine to look through for 911’s so the search begun. Issue 1 2018 – My First Porsche – 911SC 1982 Page 1 of 4 My budget was around £10K UKP (approx. A$30K AU) and for that price one could get a not so perfect 911SC which is what I ended up looking for. I am a mechanical engineer by trade, so I had bought and sold many cars over the years and rebuilt/restored some of them as well, so I knew my way round a car and what to look for.
