VILLA VILLA OPALE Go to Villa VILLA VILLA OPALE Go to villa A FAMILY VILLA WITH POOL CLOSE TO A LOVELY SANDY BEACH Marina di Modica SLEEPS BEDROOMS BATHROOMS POOL 18 9 10 circle pool A huge modern family villa with pool in extensive landscaped grounds, handy for a lovely sandy beach – and the fascinating Hyblaean hills. The villa lies in between the summer resort of Marina di Modica and the port of Pozzallo, on the southern edge of the Val di Noto – a UNESCO heritage site for its magnificent Baroque towns. The extensive grounds are beautifully landscaped, with soaring trees and century-old carob trees encircling a circular swimming pool. The grounds (or parco, in Italian) are full of luxuriant vegetation, with lots of shade, a children’s play area, barbeque zone, outdoor dining room – and even a small lake. There is also a large, circular swimming pool, outdoor shower – and a bowling green! On the ground floor of the main house is a large living room with TV and sound system, a lounge with bar area, a billiards room, with access through French windows to a furnished, covered terrace. There is also a large kitchen with a guest bathroom. A wooden staircase leads up to six double bedrooms (all with ensuite bathroom). The two annexes each have a double bedroom nd bathroom. It is one of those villas designed to let everyone do what they want, without disturbing anyone else – the kids can play, grandparents can listen to music or watch TV, dad can make a barbeque and mum can laze in the pool. The location is also perfect for a large group of family, where people have different tastes or interests. There are the sandy beaches of Marina di Modica and Sampieri (an Inspector Montalbano location); Baroque towns like Modica, Scicli and Ragusa; magnificent country walks to be had in the Cava Grande, Cava d’Ispica or Vendicari nature reserve; and you could even take a day trip to Malta! WE THINK The villa is really comfortable, the decor tasteful and the grounds are beautiful, but it is also refreshingly unpretentious, and practical –we can’t think of better place for a big family holiday. PROVINCIA REGIONALE DI RAGUSA Assessorato Territorio, Ambiente e Protezione Civile 10° Settore Geologia e Geognostica PROGETTO PRELIMINARE DI € 2.140.000,00 INTERVENTO DI SALVAGUARDIA DI TRATTI DI LITORALE COMPRESI TRA SAMPIERI E PUNTA REGILIONE NEI TERRITORI DEI COMUNI DI SCICLI E MODICA Ragusa, dicembre 2008 Il Progettista: Dott. Geol. Giovanni Biondi Il Dirigente (Dott. Geol.

The need to monitor the coastline of Ragusa stems from the awareness of the Provincial Administration that an uncontrolled process of deterioration and erosion of the entire coast is under way. The shoreline recession is a consequence above all to human interventions along the coast which have modified the natural equilibrium of the ecosystems. The monitoring of the Ragusa coastal area, therefore, with topographic and bathymetric surveys, detailed computations of sand volume budget and grain size studies, will provide an important basic information source for local Coastal Planning and Management. Without an effective use of this information no form of sustainable development can take place in the coastal area.

  • The Genus Romulea in Italy: Taxonomy, Ecology and Intraspecific Variation in Relation to the Flora of Western Mediterranean Islands
Fitosociologia vol. 48 (2) suppl. 1: 13-20, 2011 The genus Romulea in Italy: taxonomy, ecology and intraspecific variation in relation to the flora of Western Mediterranean islands. F. Frignani1 & *G. Iiriti2 1Dipartimento di Scienze Ambientali, Università degli Studi, Via P.A. Mattioli, 4, 53100 Siena, I. E-mail: frignani@ unisi.it; 2Centro Conservazione Biodiversità (CCB), Dipartimento di Scienze e Botaniche, Università degli Studi, Viale S. Ignazio 13, 09123 Cagliari, I. E-mail: [email protected]. Abstract Studies about genus Romulea underlined how this is a critical group of the Italian flora. This genus is characterized by an high level of polymorphism caused mainly by hybridization, polyploidy and peculiar climatic/edaphic conditions. In Italy are currently recognized to be 12 taxa, while 16 in the main west Mediterranean insular systems. Among them, Sardinia has the higher richness with 10 entities, followed by Corsica (8), Sicily (6), Tuscan Archipelago (5), Maltese Archipelago (5) and Balearic islands (3). Nowadays analyses about pollen, stigmas and stomata morphology, karyology and molecular biology are still in progress, in order to product a phylogentic study of this genus in Italy and to attempt solving some taxonomical doubts. Key words: islands, phytogeography, Romulea, Western Mediterranean, flora.
