Bitburger Badminton Open kämpfen sieben Nationen in fünf Disziplinen um den Turniersieg Saarbrücken. Die Halbfinals sind gespielt, die Tickets für die Endspiele sind verteilt. Die Saarlandhalle ist bereit für den großen Showdown der 30. Bitburger Badminton Open. Wenn am Sonntag das Licht zahlreicher Scheinwerfer die Saarbrücker Saarlandhalle in ihrer ganzen Pracht erstrahlen lässt, gehen die Finalisten zu ihren letzten Begegnungen auf die grüne Matte. Am häufigsten ist dabei Europas stärkste Badmintonnation Dänemark vertreten. Ganze drei Titelkandidaten haben die Dänen noch im Rennen. Außer Dänemark ist am Sonntag keine weitere europäische Nation vertreten. Auch die Halbfinalbegegnungen des mit 120.000 US- Dollar dotierten Grand-Prix Gold Turniers fanden am Samstag ohne deutsche Beteiligung statt. Der Halbfinaltag wurde mit einem Sieg von Anders Skaarup Rasmussen und Line Kjaersfeldt im Gemischten Doppel eröffnet. Gegen die Engländer Marcus Ellis und Lauren Smith setzten sich das dänische Duo mit 22:20 und 21:17 durch. Im Endspiel treffen die Dänen auf die chinesische Paarung He Jiting und Du Yue. Nachdem das Duo aus dem Reich der Mitte am Freitag mit Marvin Seidel und Linda Efler das letzte deutsche Mixed aus dem Turnier geworfen hatte, setzte es seine Siegesserie mit einem Halbfinalsieg über Hafiz Faizal und Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja aus Indonesien fort.
