Forster (1922-2000), whose wisdom, friendship, and guidance were a key part of my development as an arachnologist. The incredible amount of material collected by Ray was a corner- stone to this revision, and he had collected specimens of all but one of the species described here. Although Ray did not revise the New Zealand Lycosidae, it was apparent, by the publications that do mention wolf spiders (Forster 1975, Forster & Forster 1973, 1999) and by the labels in the Otago Museum lycosid collection, that Ray had a deep understanding of the taxonomy of the family. His numerous publications on the taxonomy and systematics of spiders, both of New Zealand and abroad (see Patrick et al. 2000) are an inspiration to me and to other arachnologists. Fauna of New Zealand 44 7 ABSTRACT The 27 species of Lycosidae found in New Zealand are revised with one new genus and 14 new species. Allotrochosina Roewer, 1960 includes A. schauinslandi Simon, 1889. Anoteropsis L. Koch, 1878 includes: A. adumbrata (Urquhart, 1887), A. aerescens (Goyen, 1887) (=Lycosa maura Urquhart, 1892 and Lycosa albovestita Dalmas, 1917, new synonymies), A. alpina sp. nov., A. arenivaga (Dalmas, 1917), A. blesti sp. nov., A. canescens (Goyen, 1887), A. cantuaria sp. nov., A. flavescens L. Koch, 1878, A. forsteri sp. nov., A. hallae sp. nov., A. hilaris (L. Koch, 1877) (=Lycosa umbrata L. Koch, 1877, Pardosa vicaria L. Koch, 1877, Lycosa taylori Goyen, 1887, Lycosa tremula Simon, 1899, Lycosa virgatella Roewer, 1951, and Lycosa subantarctica Forster, 1964, new synonymies), A. insularis sp.

Haddad1 As part of the South African National Survey of Arachnida (SANSA) in conserved areas, arachnids Ansie S. Dippenaar- were collected in the De Hoop Nature Reserve in the Western Cape Province, South Africa. The Schoeman2 survey was carried out between 1999 and 2007, and consisted of five intensive surveys between Affiliations: two and 12 days in duration. The genus Storenosoma Hogg, 1900 is revised and now contains thirteen species, S. hoggi (Roewer), S. altum Davies, S. supernum Davies, S. terraneum Davies, S. bifidum n.sp., S. bondi n.sp., S. forsteri n.sp., S. grayi n.sp., S. grossum n.sp., S. picadilly n.sp., S. smithae n.sp., S. tasmaniensis n.sp., and S. victoria n.sp. A new genus, Oztira, is described to contain Australian species previously ascribed to the New Zealand genus Otira Forster & Wilton. Oztira contains four species, Oz. affinis (Hickman) n.comb., Oz. aquilonaria (Davies) n.comb., Oz. summa (Davies) n.comb., and Oz. kroombit n.sp. Tapetosa belongs to the lycosid subfamily Lycosinae, but has a unique somatic morphology amongst wolf spiders, which is characterised by a dorso-ventrally flattened cephalothorax and abdomen associated with the spiders inhabiting narrow crevices under the granite sheets of rocky outcrops. The central tarsal claw is reduced and covered by extended scopulate setae probably facilitating movement on solid rocky surfaces. The tegulum of the male pedipalp carries a unique retrolateral protrusion.
