The Embassy has been active in promoting Malaysia’s interests. It includes the engagements with the host government, diplomatic corps, think tanks, academia, business chambers, media and local community. Furthermore, deliberate partnerships between both countries have raised bilateral relations to achieve greater success and role in the region and the world. While this year’s merriment will be different and many of our traditional gatherings will not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am confident that the close ties of friendship and cooperation between our two countries will continue to grow and strengthen in the years to come. Our shared values, interests and partnership are geared for common objectives. I hope that 2021 will bring more opportunities for Malaysia and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria. May the new year 2021 bring more joy, happiness and prosperity, MOHD ARIFF AHMAD TAHARIM Chargé d’Affaires a.i MALAWAKIL ALGIERS E-NEWSLETTER Vol. 2/2020 Page 2 The Chargè d'Affaires a.i joined the Prime Minister of Algeria, Minister of Culture and Minister of Foreign Affairs in honouring artists and intellectuals on the sidelines of the National Days of Traditional Dress at the Palace of Culture Moufdi Zakaria on 24 August 2020. The CDA a.i. paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Finance of Algeria, His Excellency Aymen Benabderrahmane. Both spent about 35 minutes discussing various issues of mutual concern, including trade and Islamic banking while reiterating that Malaysia is keen to continue to develop its strong partnership with Algeria. MALAWAKIL ALGIERS E-NEWSLETTER Vol. 2/2020 Page 3 The CDA a.i. bid farewell to the Indonesian Ambassador, Her Excellency Mdm Safira Machrusah on 19 July 2020. The Indonesian Ambassador is leaving Algiers after more than 4 years of tenure in Algeria. The CDA a.i. received Mr. Ahmed Ibrahimi, President of El Baraka Association and his delegation at the Embassy. Wide range of is- sues regarding development pro- grams and humanitarian work were among the key theme covered. Our cute tiffin filled with traditional lamb rendang, Pe- nang dalca curry & special tomato basmati rice. MALAWAKIL ALGIERS E-NEWSLETTER Vol. 2/2020 Page 5 The Embassy hosted LUNCHEON with our fellow Malaysian expatriates finishing their posting in Algiers. The Malaysian community in Algiers gathered at the Embassy and were served with delectable Malaysian cuisines. The Embassy of Malaysia cooperated with the Embassy of Turkey in Algiers for the REPATRIATION of 2 Malaysians on 21 July 2020. Both of them boarded the Istanbul-bound Turkish chartered flight, arranged to repatriate the Turkish diaspora in Algeria. On 23 April 2020, the Embassy facilitated the returning of 5 Malaysian as well as one Malaysian Pedigree of BSH, Adudu. MALAWAKIL ALGIERS E-NEWSLETTER Vol. 2/2020 Page 6 In conjunction with the 63rd National Day of Malaysia on 31 August 2020; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, in collaboration with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS presented “Malaysia’s Virtual National Day 2020 Recep- As part of the preemptive and preventive measures of COVID-19, the Embassy of conducted a Disinfection Activity at the chancery building on 28 October 2020. MALAWAKIL ALGIERS E-NEWSLETTER Vol. 2/2020 Page 7 The CDA a.i. attended the INAUGURATION OF MASJID AL-DJAZAIR, the world’s third largest mosques in conjunction with the Maulid Ennabawi ElCharif on 29 October 2020. The new mosque recorded as world's tallest minaret which includes a 20,000m² praying hall. It is the third-largest mosque after the Masjid Al-Haram of Mecca & Masjid An-Nabawi of Medina in Saudi Arabia. MALAWAKIL ALGIERS E-NEWSLETTER Vol. 2/2020 Page 8 State Funeral of the Algerian Mujahideen’s skulls at Martyrs' Square at El-Alia Cemetery on 5 July 2020. The funeral took place after the skulls were repatriated from France, in the presence of President of Algeria, H.E. Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The Embassy offered its condolences to the demise family of Lieutenant Bouzayda Nouredine, Lieutenant Colonel Kharoussa Nouredinne and Lieutenant Colonel El Ouafi Mohamed Lamine who involved in the Algerian military helicopter crash incident on 16 December 2020. Our thoughts will be with the people and Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria for this grievous news.
