It’s a piece of a puzzle in a bigger plan for the city’s development, a portal for shipping and a new landmark for Gothenburg. The current bridge, Götaälvbron, was completed in 1939 and its steel is so worn that it needs to be replaced with a new bridge – Hisingsbron. Hisingsbron will be a steel and concrete lift bridge extending between Gothenburg city center in the south and the northern city district Hisingen. The bridge is built by Skanska and MT Højgaard on behalf of the City of Gothenburg and will be ready for Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary in 2021.
