In many ways, traffic congestion impacts the everyday life of both drivers and citizens. In this thesis, the authors study how one solution designed to tackle congestion, the Park & Ride service, is currently used in the city of Gothenburg, where it is referred as Pendelparkering. This scheme allows commuters to park their car outside the city and then use public transport to their destination, thus avoiding having more cars in the city centre and reducing congestion. The goal is to know to what extent it helps solving the problem of congestion as well as how it can be ameliorated to make it more attractive. In order to do so, an analysis of the theory on Park & Ride and traffic congestion is performed, including a benchmark of three cities using the system and different views on its effectiveness in reducing congestion. Then, an empirical study relating to the City of Gothenburg is realized. The challenges around Park & Ride and the way different stakeholders organise themselves to ensure the service is provided in a satisfying way are thoroughly investigated. Interviews with experts and users, on- site observations and secondary data collection were used as different approaches to answer these questions.

Götaälvbron från 1939, har rörlig klaff, och därför små marginaler beträffande rörelser, och risk föreligger för fastkilning som kan äventyra brons funktion. Göteborgs stads Trafikkontor har därför, tillsammans med Trafikverket och Vasakronan, lagt ner arbete för mät-, bro- och geospecialister i samband med de omfattande pålningsarbeten som utförts.     Göteborg City Shopping Årsrapport 2012 Göteborg City Shopping * 1 Göteborg City Shopping Sammanfattning av 2012 För att utveckla och öka attraktionskraften för Göteborg som shoppingdestination skapades 2011 Göteborg City Shopping, som under 2012 tog form. Under året har en finansiering grundlagts och styrgruppen har utökats med representanter från handeln, Göteborgs Universitet, kommun och fastighetsägare. En marknadsgrupp har bildats som gemensamt arbetat fram olika aktiviteter och marknadsinsatser som genomförts under året. I flera kampanjer i såväl Sverige som i Norge har shoppingen varit synlig. Genom samarbete med hotellen har även specifika shoppingweekends paketerats och marknadsförts nationellt och internationellt. En kontinuerlig bearbetning av press och media med shoppingfokus har också gjorts under året. Bakgrund Fastighetsägarna i Göteborg och Göteborgs Köpmannaförbund och Näringslivsgrupen på Göteborg & Co har under 2011 gemensamt startat projektet Göteborg City Shopping. Arbetet inleddes redan 2009 då en förstudie gjordes där bland andra universitetet, kommunen Svensk Handel, turistföretag och fastighetsägare deltog. Studien utmynnade i ett visionsarbete där allt från infrastruktur till trender, företag och shoppingflöden gicks igenom. Göteborg ska bli staden för framtidens handel. På stadens 400-årsdag ska staden vara i fokus för shopping. Mål En viktig uppgift för projektet är att stärka relationer, satsa på PR och marknadskampanjer och uppnå en gemensam bild för shoppingen i Göteborg. Målet är att skapa reseanledningar till Göteborg och att Göteborg ska bli staden för framtidens handel. Konkreta mål är: • Att öka antalet journalistbesök med intresse shopping och mode. • Att aktivt arbeta för ett årligt återkommande evenemang för shoppingen inom en 3-års period. • Att öka kunskapen kring besökaren. • Att få fler shoppingbesökare till Göteborg.

The study can be discerned with two moments. The first part unfolds Vallgravsstråket’s obscure historical legibility by looking into the subject’s conditional processes of creating/producing heritage with focus on Vallgravsstråket’s local identity and place-based memory. The second part of the thesis focuses on the area’s opera- tive practicality by studying the consequences of constructing a footbridge over Vall- gravsstråket with the help of a morphological analysis. A recurring question involves understanding what makes up Vallgravsstråket and why it is important to preserve it and, for whom. Along these lines, it has been interesting to identi- fy an inconsistent gap between how the area is currently represented, what is commonly stated in legally binding documents and, how the local users evaluate the area.

RiverCity lies in the heart of the Region of Gothenburg on the northern riverbank opposite the city center, and is surrounded by large housing estates, old industrial areas and new commercial cores. As well as it is connected with interstate highways with the Region and the metropolitan areas of Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo, as much it is still dissociated from its urban surroundings. The highway infrastructure forms strong barriers and a network of urban infrastructure which links it with its neighboring areas and the subregion is lacking. Connecting RiverCity is therefore its first challenge. RiverCity has a huge potential for urban development due to its strategic position inside the agglomeration, its sheer size and its key-asset, the riverfront.
