RASG‐PA ESC/29 — WP/04 14/11/17 Twenty ‐ Ninth Regional Aviation Safety Group — Pan America Executive Steering Committee Meeting (RASG‐PA ESC/29) ICAO NACC Regional Office, Mexico City, Mexico, 29‐30 November 2017 Agenda Item 3: Items/Briefings of interest to the RASG‐PA ESC PROPOSAL TO AMEND ICAO FLIGHT DATA ANALYSIS PROGRAMME (FDAP) RECOMMENDATION AND STANDARD TO EXPAND AEROPLANES´ WEIGHT THRESHOLD (Presented by Flight Safety Foundation and supported by Airbus, ATR, Embraer, IATA, Brazil ANAC, ICAO SAM Office, and SRVSOP) EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Flight Data Analysis Program (FDAP) working group comprised by representatives of Airbus, ATR, Embraer, IATA, Brazil ANAC, ICAO SAM Office, and SRVSOP, is in the process of preparing a proposal to expand the number of functional flight data analysis programs. It is anticipated that a greater number of Flight Data Analysis Programs will lead to significantly greater safety levels through analysis of critical event sets and incidents. Action: The FDAP working group is requesting support for greater implementation of FDAP/FDMP throughout the Pan American Regions and consideration of new ICAO standards through the actions outlined in Section 4 of this working paper. TAP in Strategic Change: What should be the future strategy? Abstract This case describes the current the business of TAP after partial privatization occurred in 2015. Having now new owners and having refurnished the board of management, the utmost strategic issue now is the future strategy of the company. This case works out the importance and the essence of strategy in the airline business and provides a competitive analysis of the European airline industry in order to support definition of strategic plan. ABSTRACT During the last century, organizations focused their business on the long-term planning, considering that business environment will remain stable for a long period of time, so they made plans for long duration. Nowadays, it is obviously that environment can change at any point of time. Consistent to this, the purpose of this thesis is to conduct a case study that illustrate how strategic management is critical for success and how it helps companies to analyse its business, in order to define a strategy. Also, it outlines the importance of having a continuous process of strategic planning in today’s companies. The case is built around TAP, so that could have a practical application and make possible to see concrete results. To develop the case, it was made a descriptive research with qualitative and both primary and secondary data. The interview was the method chosen to collect primary data. In terms of results, it was found that a simple process of strategic management is not enough to be competitive. It is necessary to have a continuous process, capable to be adaptable to the market trends and business environment changes. Throughout this ongoing process, TAP is able to be agile and define and keep modifying its future strategy whenever necessary to keep up with the constant changes in airline industry.
