LA sl AL sl/en AI Out of curiosity and interest I decided to do a research about "Slavic gods and awareness of them in the Šalek valley". Also, I was curious about how many people are acquainted with ancient traditions of our ancestors. In the research thesis I focused on Slavic gods, especially on the East/West-Slavic and Baltic gods. That Slovenian people were taking over the gods from both nations is proved by the fact that in Slovenia Perun shrine and shrines of some other Eastern Slavic gods have been discovered. In addition, we have also the remains of some Baltic gods, such as Živa. In my research I used various hypotheses and methods. Based on interviews, I realized that people are aware, that Christianity took over many things from the Gentiles. But only few people are deeper acquainted with the beliefs of our ancestors. I also consulted and did an interview with Nejc Petric, who is a representative of pagan community Nikrman. • Czech Republic Today
Rich in History 1 2 Magic Crossroads Whenever European nations were set in motion, they met in a rather small area called the Czech Republic today. Since the early Middle Ages, this area was crossed by long trade routes from the severe North to the sunny South; at the beginning of the first millennium, Christianity emerged from the West, and at its end communism arrived from the East. For six hundred years, the country was an independent Czech kingdom, for three hundred years, it belonged among Austro-Hungarian Empire lands, and since 1918 it has been a republic. In the 14th century, under the Bohemian and German King and Roman Emperor Charles IV, as well as in the 16th century under the Emperor Rudolf II, the country enjoyed a favourable position in European history and also played a great role internationally in the arts and in social affairs. In 1989, the whole world admired the Czechoslovak “velvet revolution” lead by charismatic dramatist Václav Havel, which put an end to socialist experimentation. Numerous famous architects, who built Romanesque churches in Germany but were no longer commissioned to build in their home countries due to the coming Gothic period, succeeded there; at the same time, the French type of Gothic architecture took root in Bohemia. A number of Italian Renaissance or Baroque architects, painters and sculptors, who crossed the Alps to find new opportunity for creating master works and look for well-paid jobs, were hired by members of Czech nobility and clergy; astonished by the mastery of Czech builders and craftsmen with whom they cooperated, they created wonderful castles and breathtaking Catholic churches.

He was constantly impressed with the fact that all too little attention has been paid hither to to the subject even by scholars of the Balkan nations, not to speak of non-Slavic historians; consequently, much preliminary pioneering work had to be done. Much yet remains to be accomplished; but the restricted scope of this undertaking as well as the paucity of source material per taining to the early history of the Balkan peninsula com bined to make the treatment actually adopted expedient. In gathering his material, the author spent some time during the summer of 1931 in the Balkans.

  • Pagan Beliefs in Ancient Russia. by Luceta Di Cosimo, Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands, Aethelmearc
1 Pagan Beliefs in Ancient Russia. By Luceta di Cosimo, Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands, Aethelmearc. [email protected] ©2006-2017 Slavic mythology is a difficult subject. The historical evidence is fragmented, with many conflicting sources and multiple later literary inventions. This is a brief reconstruction of ancient Russian mythology. The first archaeological findings that can be attributed to Slavs date to approximately 6th c. AD. The origins of Slavs are still debated. The pagan Slavic society was an oral society. Christianity, which introduced writing, was more concerned with eradication rather than preservation of pagan beliefs. No one really tried to preserve and record whatever remained, until late period. Then, there is some evidence recorded from the Germans who visited Russia in 18th c., but a lot of it is based on the written 15thc. sources, rather than eyewitness accounts. The 19th c. Europe saw renewed interest in folklore, and combined with rise of nationalism and need for developed mythos, a lot of what was left was recorded, but a lot was altered to make it more palatable, and questionable things (especially with fertility rituals) were edited out as not to besmirch the emerging national character. During the Soviet time, the study of any religion was problematic, due to mandatory atheism. Eventually, the study of the early Slavic traditions was permitted, and even encouraged, but, everything had to pass stringent censorship rules, and could not contradict Marxist-Leninist philosophy. So, people who had the material (in the USSR) could not publish, and people who actually could publish (in the West) did not have access to the materials.

Kovačević Publ. Astron. Soc. “Rudjer Bošković” No 20, 2020, 139-153 A PAIR OF STEĆAKS FROM DONJA ZGOŠĆA ALEKSANDRA BAJIĆ1 and MILAN S. DIMITRIJEVIĆ2 1Society for archaeoastronomy, and ethnoastronomy, "Vlašići", Belgrade 2Astronomical Observatory, Belgrade E-mail: [email protected], [email protected] Abstract. The study tests the hypothesis that artistic representations on some stećak tombstones can illustrate certain knowledge and beliefs from pre-Christian mythology, cosmology and religion, as well as the calendar knowledge of the Balkan Slavs. Stećaks are tombstones made of large marble monoliths. These are dated to the Middle Ages. Older researchers attribute them to the Bogumils, a religious sect whose religious beliefs are not sufficiently known, but that assumption has been abandoned. Now, it is believed that some of these were built by Christians (both catholics and orthodox), some by Muslims. Some are richly decorated with relief, some have inscriptions, written in Bosnian Cyrillic, in a language that is indisputably Slavic. Two stećak tombstones, found in the local cemetery in Donja Zgošća near Kakanj, in present-day Bosnia, are analyzed in this paper. These two are certainly not decorated with either Christian or Muslim symbols. 1. INTRODUCTION Donja Zgošća is located in central Bosnia, north of Kakanj, on the banks of the river Zgošća. Two stećak tombstones, investigated in this paper, were found there in the old cemetery known as Crkvine, at geographical coordinates 44o 09 '17.5 “N, 18o 07' 54.5 E.

Izdajatelj: Pogansko društvo PanPogan Ljubljana, marec 2009 ISSN 1855-6051 uvodnik Eden od zakonov narave je zakon plime in oseke. Enkrat gre gor enkrat gre dol.
