Greeting Nobles, I want to thank all the units and clubs that worked our famous fish fry’s. The nobles and their ladies really did a great job. I know it is a lot of work. In addition, takes some dedication to show up and make it happen each and every Friday. (7 weeks to be exact!). Our shrine center has a great fellowship. There are many of our APRIL nobles and their families that come out and support our center. Seeing the familiar and smiling faces warms your heart. That’s what it’s all about. 2018

Potentate: I would like to take a minute to congratulate Ted Cline for being elected to the position Greg Pelfrey of trustee. He was sworn in Monday night March 12 by III. Sir Kenny Harper. Thank you to Ted and Dave Tim Redrow Ormes for stepping up and accepting the challenge of filling Sparky’s obligations as Assistant Rabban: Chief Aide. Jerry A. Ulm

I would like to welcome our newest members Koffi Assah and Timothy Callahan (Gayle). These brothers were initiated into our fraternity on February 12. I would also like to thank the first and second line signers. Thanks for the continuing support of our greatest philanthropy.

Cincinnati Shriners Hospital celebrates 50 years of pediatric specialty care

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Cincinnati kicked off its 50th anniversary on Wednesday, February 14, with an internal celebration that included staff, volunteers and board members. The morning’s celebration, which took place in the hospital atrium, included a special presentation by Lauren Lind, a local burn survivor who was burned over 40 percent of her body at age 6 when a large container of hot chocolate tipped over into her car seat while in route to her brother’s football game. Now a student at the University of Cincinnati, Lauren has served four summers as a junior counselor at Camp Ytiliba, the hospital’s week-long camp for patients. “I don’t remember the pain,” said Lind, “I remember this being one of my favorite places. I always feel special here.” Cincinnati Shriners Hospital opened in 1968 as Shriners Burns Institute, and was connected with General Hospital, what is now University of Cincinnati Medical Center. One of only four free-standing pediatric burn hospitals in the country today, the Cincinnati Shriners Hospital has expanded its care over the years to include plastic and reconstructive surgery, treatment of cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial disorders, and complex skin and wound conditions. As always, the hospital treats children based strictly on their needs and regardless of a family’s ability to pay. The hospital has celebrations planned throughout the year, including a Patient Reunion on June 16, and a visit from David Ragan, NASCAR driver whose number 38 Ford Fusion is sponsored by Shriners Hospitals for Children, on July 12. CELEBRATING 50 YEARS

Supporting research to develop innovative in utero procedures and treatments that will one day eliminate specific complex medical conditions, increase the number of healthy births, and give new hope to parents and families. Anne Bergenske, First Lady of Shriners International, hopes that one day more children will be born healthy, and that the availability of improved treatments and procedures that can be performed before birth, will make this possible. She has announced her fundraising program, Love Grows Miracles, which will provide funding through scholarships to support research being done by physicians and scientists at Shriners Hospitals for Children® to ensure healthy births and pave the way for the development of innovative treatments that may one day eliminate some birth disorders. “Every parent hopes their child will come into this world healthy, and without difficulties. The researchers at Shriners Hospitals for Children are working hard to gain understanding that will help develop and refine in utero procedures, ultimately allowing more parents to experience the incomparable joy and wonder of a healthy newborn,” said Anne Bergenske, First Lady of Shriners International. Whether the problem is spina bifida, cleft lip and palate, cerebral palsy, limb abnormalities, or any other of countless complex medical conditions, there will be solutions in the future. Science and research have the potential to provide answers that may one day eliminate the occurrence or development of these conditions. “Let’s do more than imagine a world without birth disorders; let’s help make it a reality,” said First Lady Anne. Marian Baird, gateway to the future of Shrinedom. We are, in case you weren’t Past Queen aware, a newly formed organization focused on young members. Now we’re not just focused on our current young members, but about helping men find the light of Freemasonry, and further light in the Shrine. Our membership is open to all Nobles of the Shrine who are “young at heart” and are seeking a way to stay that way. Our humble beginnings are already seeing returns on our investments of hard work. We had a young man join a local Blue Lodge, go through the One Day “Blue Lightening” class. That new Brother has also sought out more light by also joining the ranks of our Scottish Rite. And in November he petitioned and was accepted into our very own Syrian Shrine. He will go through the ceremonial very soon scheduled for the Spring class. Make sure you stop and say hello to our new Noble Tim Mircale when you see him. We look forward too many more going the way Tim Mircale did. So, my fellow Clowns, at the beginning of this past month your Director and Past Director Chili Pepper. flew out to Las Vegas for 5 days, we took the time to meticulously put our makeup on, made sure our costumes were the way that we felt they were supposed to look, and we got on stage to be judged by our fellow clowns. We got our game on, and as usual, we scored in the top, also bringing home a very special award. But I’m not here to boast about a couple pieces of wood that we brought home. I’m here to let everyone in the unit know that they missed a fantastic time and a very fun place. This trip was to Las Vegas, Nevada. We stayed in a 4-star hotel casino by the name of, the Golden Nugget. We ate very well. And we had some very interesting and entertaining things happen to us. The cost for this trip out of my pocket was $650. That would be airflare room souvenirs for the grandkids dues registration fees and a couple trips to the Heart Attack Grill. A year ago, four of us went to Virginia to the ISCA convention and had a fantastic time. And we became friends with some fantastic people such as Percy the Painter Pope, the Cop, and a few other members of the international Shrine Clown Association. In past years I have not really promoted going to conventions a whole lot although I have gone to him, I haven’t really expanded upon how much of fun they are. So, I’d like to take this opportunity to tell each clown, or maybe each unit member in the Shrine, that if you want to make some new friends that enjoy what you’re doing go to your conventions! This time I felt that we had the opportunity to compete against some of the best clown out there! There were some fantastic makeup jobs done, and some fantastic skits! And more than that we made some lifelong friends that it at the end of the day I can’t wait to hang out with again. There are conventions that happened throughout the year, they have competition and they also have education but more than anything they have Fellowship.
