Black Caps Win T20I Series vs Pakistan 2-1 Mark Chapman scored a very well compiled 34 at Eden Park in the 1st T20I at Eden Park last Friday. Coming in with Seifert in full flow, Chappie, looking at ease, fed his partner the strike. A single off evey ball, never a dot till, on Seifert’s dismissal, he immediately upped his pace. A straight 6 and then a 4 crashing through cover. Speaks’ photos capture these moments BEST WISHES TO THE BLACK CAPS FOR THE TEST SERIES ABOUT TO START1 Our Auckland Aces Ben Horne on the way to 162 vs Otago – his highest 1st Class score. Otago 291 Auckland 293/6 N Robinson 66 Won by 4 wickets [A remarkable game, Otago were 138/9 when B Culhane - son of former All Black Simon Culhane – hit 123 but Auckland was equal to the chase thanks, particularly, to top scorer Nathan] 4. Central Districts 122/8 Auckland 123/5 Won by 5 wickets Auckland U19 fnished 2nd to Wellington on the One Day Table T20s: 1. Auckland 139/7 N Robinson 41 Wellington 143/9 N Perera 3/24 Lost by 1 wicket [Also remarkable – see Wellington’s fall of wickets – 4/91, 5/98, 6/116, 7/117 (17 overs gone), 8/117. Then, 1st ball of 20th over, Nathan secured a run out – 9/132, 8 needed off 5 balls then 1 off 1 – sadly, look at the scorebook!] 2. Auckland 155/5 Central Districts 157/7 N Perera 2/30 Lost by 3 wickets 3. Wellington 124 N Perera 1/16 (4) Auckland 127/7 N Robinson 33* Won by 3 wickets A win over Wellington to conclude the Tournament. Another, last baller – chasing Wellington’s 124, Auckland was 6/85 when Nikith was out, then 7/105 - 20 still needed off 13 balls. Come the last over – 13 still required, U Patel and Nathan Robinson at the crease. First ball – a single to Patel, 2nd – a 4 to Nathan who then hit three 2s. Last ball – 1 to tie, 2 to win – and Nathan hit a 4! A win to Auckland by 3 wickets. A remarkably level headed performance by Nathan who finished 33 not out. A brilliant Tournament – the Christmas break will be needed to steady shattered nerves!! Last Weekend – 19 & 20 December Sat. 19 Dec. Premier Men’s Grade - Jeff Crowe Cup Round 2. Parnell vs East Coast Bays at Shore Road Reserve EAST COAST BAYS 283/6 (50) R Schierhout 48 (34), S Langridge 90 (86), Josh Fisher 3/69 (10), Fanie de Villiers 1/30 (7), Aniket Parikh 1/51 (10), Dean van Deventer 1/31 (7) PARNELL 284/5 (48.5) Ben Rae 66 (49), Andy Lane 95 (113), Will Ormiston 42 (79), Aniket Parikh 35 (23), B Smith 2/52 (8), R Schierhout 2/44 (10) RESULT: PARNELL WON BY 5 WICKETS Craig Speakman’s photos tell the story of a sparkling day’s cricket when 567 runs were scored & 11 wickets taken: Josh Fisher – 3/69 including the wickets of top scorers, Schierhout and Langridge. Note the players’ intensity! Left Fanie de Villiers – 1/30. His wicket, 2/93, was of Cole Briggs (22) who has been in good form recently Right Aniket Parikh – he bowled Winter for 20 – 4/210 Ben Rae – lead the chase with a succesion of superb drives – off front & back foot. With Ben caught having hit 66 and the total 122, Andy Lane (above) took over Andy’s 95 was studded with some immensely powerful drives – he hit 5 sixes and 5 fours and was unlucky to be caught right on the mid wicket boundary just short of a well desered ton. Out at 204, still 80 needed! Will Ormiston - held the fort, produced some lovely drives and, with Aniket (35), took us to 250 Fanie (18 off 8 & 2 x 6) and Josh (17 off 11) then saw us home with 7 balls to spare Fanie and Josh – job done! Sunday, 20 Dec. Men’s Premier Grade T20s – Rounds 3. & 4. At Cornwall Park no. 2. 3. Against Ellerslie, our lads hd woken up from the Saturday night party – the bowlers sparked and Flynn and Andy excelled with the bat. Craig was only at the Papatoetoe game but has provided some great photos: All Papatoetoe’s Luke Istead skies one – Flynn is under it – all eyes on Flynn – will he/won’t he? Flynn bags it! Papatoetoe 41/2 and Parnell hopes are high. Josh, the bowler is jubilant, Flynn is hugely relieved! A plan that worked? Jubilation all round but only one more wicket fell, at 93, and Papatoetoe romped home. Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No.186: 2019/20 – Club of the Year! The 2019/20 Season may have ended a fraction prematurely but, for Parnell, it was a resounding success. Over it’s long history, 163 years, the Club has won many championships and produced some of New Zealand’s finest cricketers but few seasons have produced the results and accolades gained in 2019/20. COVID 19 has meant the postponement of the Annual Awards Dinner but Auckland Cricket has just announced the trophy winners and a superb collection of silverware comes to Parnell and our Players: “Club of the Year” – the Simmonds & Osborne Trophy awarded to Parnell Cricket Club Parnell last won this Award 27 years ago. The Trophy dates from 1905/06 when it was awarded jointly to City, Grafton, North Shore and Parnell Cricket Clubs. Parnell was the sole awardee in 1909/10 and North Shore won in 1910/11 but, then, till 1926/27 there were No Awards made. Reinstated the next season, From then it was awarded each year to WW 2 with Parnell winning in 1933/34. No awards during the War but from 1946/47 it has been presented annually again and Parnell won it the next season,1947/48. Next, and represented by Eastern Districts (Parnell, Orakei, Ellerslie and Panmure CCs), we won in 1959/60. The District Scheme ended in 1966 but Parnell did not win the Trophy again until 1992/93. That season Mike Simpson, our present Patron, was both President and Chairman. It has taken another 27 years to win again.

From Ithe day I joined the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s elite panel in 2008, two years after I stood in my first international at the Oval, I trained for every game, and in particular Test matches, in pretty much the same way and certainly with a bit more professionalism than when I played for England back in the 1980s when warm-ups usually consisted of a few laps of the outfield and some stretches with the physio Bernard Thomas, who was the equivalent of a modern-day strength and conditioning coach back then. Two days before the game started, I would go down to the ground, dump my gear in the umpires’ 17 GUNNER: MY LIFE IN CRICKET room, wander over to the nets and stand at one end during each team’s practice and just observe. When you think about it, it’s an obvious thing to do. The international game moves so quickly these days that when I began a new series in a different country there were invariably bowlers and batsmen who I had not come across before.

AUSTRALIA V. NEW ZEALAND DECEMBER 28, 2019 BOXING DAY TEST FACT SHEET - DAY 3 Australia and New Zealand have only met in Tests at the MCG on three previous occasions. The MCC library fact sheets for each of the first three days of this match will highlight one of those contests. Today's sheet reviews the Third Test of the 1987/88 series. ‘The 1987/88 New Zealand tour’ The New Zealanders embarked on the two-month tour in mid-November less than three weeks after returning from the World Cup in India, faced with a challenging itinerary of 19 matches, including three Tests, three first-class matches and 10 one-day internationals. The touring party, however, was an internationally-hardened and settled combination, despite the absence of the recently-retired Jeremy Coney and Bruce Edgar. The party comprised 12 of the World Cup squad, bolstered by the inclusion of star pace bowler Richard Hadlee, who had been unavailable for the World Cup, and left- arm spinner Evan Gray as a like-for-like replacement for Stephen Boock. ‘Third Test Match, December 26-30, 1987’ New Zealand entered the match needing a win to square the series, having lost at Brisbane by nine wickets and drawn at Adelaide. Both sides made two changes to their line-ups from Adelaide, the visitors substituting Ewen Chatfield and Philip Horne for Evan Gray and Martin Snedden, while Australia were unable to consider injured pacemen Bruce Reid and Merv Hughes, replacing them with Test debutant Tony Dodemaide and Mike Whitney, whose only two Test appearances had been in England six years earlier.

PARNELL 232/6 (20) Ben Rae 44 (24), Ben Horne 31 (17), Mark Chapman 48 (20) Jesse Simpson 35* (22), Dean van Deventer 42* (18), A Parikh 2/35 (4), C Jones 2/36 (18) GRAFTON UNITED 178/8 (20) N Hendrie 21 (20), A Parikh 48 (30), N Stobart 35 (20) Mike Ravlic 4 0 25 3 Dean van Deventer 3….0 29….0 Jesse Simpson 3 0 23 2 Josh Fisher 4….0 24 0 Hamish Robertson 3 0 28 2 Mark Chapman 3 0 42 1 Josh Fisher 4 catches RESULT: PARNELL WON BY 54 RUNS The crowds flocked to Shore Road and saw the Home side get off to a rollicking start – Ben Rae and Ben Horne putting on 59 in only 18 minutes.before the latter was caught. Enter Chappie (what joy to have our Aces back!), the pace was upped further. Ben Rae left at 113, but Chappie hit 5 sixes in his 20 ball 48. Wickets fell – 6/159 but Jesse and Dean stopped any rot developing, played many spectacular shots (Dean 4 x 6s) and were unbeaten at the end of 20 overs and a cracking total of 232. A hard act to follow. GU opened with their two pros - Nick Hendrie and Ian Cockbain (seasoned 1st Class batsmen for KwaZulu Natal and Gloucesteshire) – and started briskly – run a ball. No success for our pace attack, Mike and Dean but Jesse’s left arm spin got immediate results having both Hendrie and Cockbain caught – 2/47.
